I keep thinking about the helicopter, does anyone have any ideas on who that can be?
Suppose it will most likely be another threat to the group but I can't work out who they are!

Carl dying will be a huge impact on the group, surely Rick will agree to just kill all the saviours now. No keeping hostages like Jesus planned.
Where are they all going to go now? With no Alexandria they are lost again.
I haven't enjoyed this season the same as others, all those episodes in season 8 and really not much has happened.

Can anyone remember a series the bbc done a few years ago called survivors, or something like that? It was basically a British show about a zombie apocalypse ? I can remember watching bits of it.

Found it.

I love Carl and am so sad they’ve killed him off - I do agree with the criticism of Gimple; he is too focused on whipping up social media hype at the expense of character development. I’ve lost interest in so many characters now and the set-pieces like Jesus vs Morgan fight just leave me cold. Siddiq and Carl’s scene was interesting and fresh and I felt like something was growing from that. Sucker punching us with Carl’s bite is a big trick - I think Chandler Riggs pulled off an amazing performance and really made it work, but I feel like Gimple is all about the cheap shocks and not about the heart of the story.

My ideal outcome is - Carl is immune! He doesn’t die and we get some direction and momentum building up to some sort of actual ending.

BeyondAssignation · 13/12/2017 12:28

1happy, I think it’s on Netflix. It certainly used to be, that’s where I watched it Grin

I am going to find it, perfect to watch while wrapping pressies tomorrow thank you.

MinorRSole · 13/12/2017 13:12

I think the show is on its last legs tbh.

They've killed off incredibly strong characters especially abe who brought a lot to the show imo. Other strong characters have been split up and given nothing to work with - Maggie left with Jesus who is such a flat character

Rick is just dull, Daryl still hasn't washed his hair, Negan is tiresome. Don't get me started on Carol, the strongest character they have and she's just been neglected totally.

Her and Daryl have brilliant on screen chemistry (not talking romantically) and they barely ever have scenes together anymore.

It's incredibly disjointed and actually quite hard work to watch at times. Carl did amazing in the last episode, he's going to be a big loss to the show which it can ill afford just now

Saw Gimple on talking dead, he's as dull as the episodes he produces

I have watched faithfully from the first episode and I will watch Carl's last episode but think I will struggle to care after that.

Soubriquet · 13/12/2017 13:36

I bet this ends up getting cancelled with viewers stop watching.... it's just a chore now to watch it...hope it gets better but it isn't

cushioncovers · 13/12/2017 15:01

Minor I agree

Kickassname2 · 13/12/2017 16:02

Excellent post CaptainBrickbeard This absolutely sums up how I feel 100%

There was no justice to Carl's death. And it was just done for shock value.

I'm so over the walking dead now. Can't believe I'm saying that. I've been dedicated from the start. Killing Rick's son out of nowhere because they ran out of other good ideas to keep us interested. Ha. They're struggling to keep it fresh and entertaining and boy does it show. It just feels like hard work to watch nowadays. I'm bored of it, and of the way they treat characters and the audience. Poking us with their shock tactic sticks to see us react and say nah nah look what we can do. We aren't your dancing monkeys. Start treating your viewers with some respect. We are the reason your show exists.

By Season 10 there will be nobody left worth caring about. I think a lot of viewers are going to switch off soon.

This might just be the first really negative thing I've said about it. I'm quite disappointed after being a huge fan for 7 years.

It was a remake of a 70s series. It was post apocalyptic but no zombies. 90% of the population died of an illness. They only made 2 series.

I agree. I'm feeling quite sad about it tbh. It feels like the start of the end of TWD. Wish the actors had more sway on what happens in it.

Pemba · 13/12/2017 19:18

I am hoping that they are fooling us and Carl will not actually die. Like pps said, maybe this is connected to the illness Gabriel has, the doctor and possibly the helicopter Rick saw? Maybe the virus is changing or people an develop immunity now etc? This could provide new development to the story. About time too, so fed up with endless violent groups jostling for power, and sick to death of NEGAN.
If he is a goner though, I certainly agree they have treated the young actor very badly. I also cannot take to Scott Gimpel, he is rather charmless and one of those people who never smile.

yumyumpoppycat · 13/12/2017 19:31

I have to agree re Carl - maybe its a case of you don't know what you've got till its gone, but he was much more believable in these episodes than Jesus when it came to questioning the morals of their, and in particular Rick's, actions. Obviously his words to Negan were undermined by the fact he was dying, but survival at what cost was one of the crucial themes underpinning the show. He tried to do the right thing and ended up dying as a point - what's the point of that at this stage?

yumyumpoppycat · 13/12/2017 19:32

sorry ignore the typos I am on my third second glass of wine Grin

BeyondAssignation · 13/12/2017 19:55

I just keep remembering how insistent GoT were that Jon Snow was 100% dead and not coming back.
I'm not convinced coral's a gonner.

yumyumpoppycat · 13/12/2017 19:56

hmmm, I think it was more general vagueness with Jon Snow? But if they haven't filmed the next half season yet they could at least bring him back to life!?

yumyumpoppycat · 13/12/2017 19:57

Also Jon Snow WAS dead strictly speaking.

BeyondAssignation · 13/12/2017 20:00

Ah yeah I know he was dead, but between the seasons they were all very insistant that he wasn't coming back and had completely finished working for them.

yumyumpoppycat · 13/12/2017 20:06

Fingers crossed, I wouldn't be pissed off if it is all a windup as it doesn't feel like a good move.

yumyumpoppycat · 13/12/2017 20:10

Maybe they will bring back Carl in a shower in season 9.

BeyondAssignation · 13/12/2017 20:11

Wake up and the war was all a dream? Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 13/12/2017 20:12

I remember survivors with Max Beasley! I really liked that.

MiddleClassProblem · 13/12/2017 20:26

I think it’s difficult because they want to please the comic book fans who have awaited characters like Negan and Jesus but also viewers who haven’t read them. Instead it seems to be disappointing both lots, particularly by killing off Carl.

I’m fairly sure he’s a gonna.

hazelnutlatte · 13/12/2017 20:43

I don't think killing off Carl will please many comic book fans - he is still alive in the comics and lots of the future storylines in the comics involve him. If Carl really is dead then this will be a huge departure from the story going forward
