Is anyone watching? Looks really chilling...

I'm wondering if they've all got a 'terrible' secret they're hiding and the 'haunting' is more personal than collective?

I am amazed at Hanne's strength in the face of adversity.

I watched on IPlayer and missed the bit leading up to Hanne, Mette and Frank being in the car. Why was he looking so out of it and ill?

minesapintofwine · 03/10/2017 10:00

Maybe Frank killed Jessan?

Didn't they say in an early episode, (Johann and Mette, ) that because of her meds, and traumas, Hanne doesn't feel emotion the same. Which would explain her being more and more inquisitive and not shit scared like-I-wouldbe--

anonymice · 03/10/2017 10:04

I think Frank has something to DO with the plot. I am wondering if any of the guests has Sami heritage and has been planning some sort of revenge or something? @Zhabr, as I understand it most Swedes and Norwegians complain about the Danish language - it's full of glottal stops and they find it hard to understand. But since none of the characters is changing their language much to make it more like the other characters (which is not particularly realistic, they would choose different words for example) then it was just a spiteful thing of Mette's boyfriend to say to her cos he does not normally find her hard to understand IYSWIM. Still he managed to actually listen to his poor brother when he was crying. The first nice thing he has done all series. @Purplepillowcase the actor who plays Erkki was in Mammon if you watched that?

ticklady · 03/10/2017 10:07

Jessan locked herself in the bathroom and Johann stood outside on watch. The police had to break the door down.

Who bust the satellite phone too?
That might be why they didn't ring the police again.

I don't know if I'd have enough energy to watch another series. I'm investing a lot of brain power into this series!

But would the next series have a van and a pet dog called Scooby doo?

TsunamiOfShit · 03/10/2017 10:10

Yes, the biggest mystery of this series is how they all understand each other without slowing down! (...speaking as a Swede.)

ticklady · 03/10/2017 10:11

And didn't Mette say something once about the lone wolf is stronger than the pack as it watches.(or something along those lines) And thats ELIN!!

anonymice · 03/10/2017 10:14

Elin's unpleasant yes. Pretending she had not locked them out....
@Tsunami lol! Exactly.

anonymice · 03/10/2017 10:16

But Dag and his brother and Erkki are selling something. What are they selling? Is the title sequence oil leaking into the lake? Is that why it is called Black Lake? Hmmmm.

ticklady · 03/10/2017 10:22

anonymice I said up thread that i reckoned it was because it was on an oil field, something that was worth a lot of money to Dag etc.
So what's,Elins involvement to scare them off?

TsunamiOfShit · 03/10/2017 10:23

How do we know they're selling something?

minesapintofwine · 03/10/2017 10:25

Also it is weird that Frank went outside in the cold for a wee. He's starting to look more and more suspicious to me.

OP posts:
ticklady · 03/10/2017 10:26

They said if there was a power cut they would lose everything, and Erkki wants his money, and they have to get rid of the kids to benefit from whatever it is. But what IT is, hasn't been said / shown/ inferred. Tho i think it's oil.

anonymice · 03/10/2017 10:28

We should start a betting syndicate. Yes they did not explicitly say they were selling something did they. That was the phone call Dag took where he spoke English to whoever rang.

ticklady · 03/10/2017 10:29

Cripes I've just got an advert for Swedish kids outdoor clothing on MN! Snow and all.

anonymice · 03/10/2017 10:34

that's creepier than a myling in the cellar@ ticklady. Just RTFT and seen that you worked out the oilfield theory ages ago. You should put the bet on. I bet Ladbrokes would offer short odds.

Halsall · 03/10/2017 11:00

Question for the Scandis on here - my ear can't quite catch it (despite my fluent Swedish and Danish from all those eps of Wallander and The Bridge, ahem), but do they actually talk about a 'myling'? That's what's in our subtitles but I thought they were using another word. I could be wrong, though. In fact I probably am...Grin

anonymice · 03/10/2017 11:12

no they call it something else, the Norwegian boys. Hanne calls it a myling. My Norwegian is not good enough to make out what Jostein calls it.

anonymice · 03/10/2017 11:18

utburd.

Halsall · 03/10/2017 11:38

Aha, thanks anonymice. I'm not totally imagining it then Grin. I'm fascinated by Nordic and Scandinavian languages, Dh laughs at me because I turn the volume up so I can hear better despite not understanding them. But English speakers can follow a surprising amount. I grew up near Liverpool and I maintain that Danish could pass as Scouse if you weren't listening too closely. Definitely part of the mix with all those sea-faring nations.

anonymice · 03/10/2017 11:50

she called it a myling at first, then even she called it something else. Gah. Not sure what. We need native speakers :)
Of course you turn the volume up! If you cant hear intonation and expression it is not very interesting watching the TV. Scouse is a Scandinavian stew isn't it - they still make it.

TsunamiOfShit · 03/10/2017 11:57

As I mentioned before, I'm native Swedish but can't understand a single word she says so can't help you!

anonymice · 03/10/2017 12:07

nativeDanish speakers needed. (Revises plea) Have the Swedish characters discussed it @Tsunami*? It's bugging me now!!

Deux · 03/10/2017 12:38

Before Frank went on his naked snow-wander, we saw some writing in the condensation on the window inside the car and it read 'I'm sorry'. What was that about? Anyone else notice? I assumed it was fromFrank.

Interesting to read that Danish sounds familiar to a Liverpudlian ear too. I'm from the far north of Scotland and Danish sounds really familiar to me. In fact some of the Danish words sound identical and have the same meaning in our dialect. Sometimes if I'm not reading the subtitles, I can get the gist of what's going on.

Oooooh good theory,a bit Inspector Calls!
