So, only a matter of a few weeks left before we can all, once more, immerse ourselves in the societal & economic dynamics of 18th century rural Cornwall perve at Aiden Turner's snug breeches and clenched jawline

Anyone else excited??? Am really going to make a vair serious effort to actually pay attention to the plot this time - it's something to do with tin mining, I think [hesitant]

@CarolinePenvenen is right.

EyeDrops · 09/08/2017 22:11

I've really enjoyed this series. To fill the void I've just started reading the books - I am I in for a treat??

woodhill · 09/08/2017 22:19

I liked the books but read most of them years ago.

CropRotationAfterJohn · 09/08/2017 22:34

@EyeDrops you will love them!! I couldn't think about anything else while I was reading them and was bereft when I finished the last one!

CarolinePenvenen · 09/08/2017 22:36

The books are amazing! I’m so jealous of anyone starting them anew. I can recite half of them but re-reading is never the same as that first journey with the characters. Sigh.

HadronCollider · 09/08/2017 22:43

Loved this series! I thought Morwenna's suffering was obvious, the man is odious (although completely hot IRL). I can totally understand her threatening the baby. I find it less realistic that she manages to have any maternal feelings at all.

So are the books good then? Are they better than the series? Cause I'm off to Amazon if they are.

userofthiswebsite sorry I meant in the books. I only remember Demelza being very secretive about a poem that Hugh had sent her and carrying it around in her pocket, then taking him out in a boat and ending up on a deserted beach with him.

userofthiswebsite · 10/08/2017 22:30

Ah right, not read the books but have enjoyed the series very much thus far.

Heratnumber7 · 11/08/2017 12:55

Soz Caroline you're absolutely correct.
It's been a while since I read the books. May re-read them.

Heratnumber7 · 11/08/2017 12:58

The books are excellent.
I found myself wandering through Marlborough one day wondering which hotel they would have stayed at on the way to London! (Marlborough is mentioned, though I forget who stayed there).
I was really invested in the characters' lives and hope this series sees the story through to the end.

CarolinePenvenen · 11/08/2017 13:05

Deffo read again!

I have dragged my poor husband all round Cornwall over the years in search of TV locations and book locations. Luckily although not a Poldark fan he is a geek too Grin

EyeDrops · 11/08/2017 23:44

I'm enjoying it so far!! I love the descriptions particularly of Prudie and Jud. Ross has just kicked out Demelza's father/uncles after he's taken her in. I like the style it's written in, it's very engaging.

Luckily my mum has the first 7 so I've saved having to buy them!

MaQueen · 13/08/2017 20:59

Phew...just caught up with last 2 episodes (been on holiday).

Was very pleased to see Elizabeth getting feisty and sticking up for Morwenna and then manipulating George.

I really enjoyed Rowella. I think she'd been having a secret liaison with the Ginger Librarian, and realised there was a way to help out her poor sister and blackmail Osbourne into giving her a shit load (in those days) of money.

I am willing to bet she isn't pregnant, and that she cold heartedly shagged Osbourne simply to get where she wanted to be. Plenty of women have done it over the ages...

I wondered if maybe Morwenna might have PND? Would be completely understandable considering her circumstances.

Wormulonian · 14/08/2017 07:03

But does Rowella actually enjoy shagging Ossie (as she feels she has the upper hand?)

MaQueen · 14/08/2017 10:18

I doubt it, she probably just saw it as a means to an end.

Pixel · 15/08/2017 20:50

Who knows? Maybe Ossie isn't quite so awful in bed if he's not being allowed to be the bully? Rowella might get turned on by having power over him.
