Poldark's on the horizon (looking broodingly out to sea...)

So, only a matter of a few weeks left before we can all, once more, immerse ourselves in the societal & economic dynamics of 18th century rural Cornwall perve at Aiden Turner's snug breeches and clenched jawline

Anyone else excited??? Am really going to make a vair serious effort to actually pay attention to the plot this time - it's something to do with tin mining, I think [hesitant]

Is Rowella's baby actually Osbourne's then? Didn't understand the handing over of the letter really, it's not like it was the only copy of a photograph. She could write another if she wanted to.

George Warleggan is repulsive. I don't know what it is about him but he has a touch of the Peter Andre's for me. I can hardly bear to look at him on screen (even though Osbourne is much worse).

MyOtherProfile · 06/08/2017 23:34

I bet there isn't a baby really. Though I'm a bit stunned that she actually went through with it with the vicar.

MyOtherProfile · 06/08/2017 23:34

Can't bear Warleggan either but the actor is excellent isn't he?

GretchenFranklin · 07/08/2017 00:01

I loved Rowella and library man. What is £500 in today's money? I thought she might arrive and say 2k and I'll shut up.

Ross's big strutting cock is shrivelled by his terrible domestic situation which is quite marvellous.

And Wellegan sobbing for his failed marriage to the beauteous Elizabeth. Well played George actor.

HadronCollider · 07/08/2017 02:56

I rather like Warleggan to look at. The actor playing him is excellent, really excelled in this finale. I hope to see him acting in other programs.

HadronCollider · 07/08/2017 03:06

Shock Just saw the link of actor who plays the repugnant Vicar!! I'll happily have some of that with myBrew and a bit ofCake. He looks so different! Would not be refusing him wifely duties!

WesternMeadowlark · 07/08/2017 03:06

Yes, that was some amazing acting. Even I was getting emotional with him when he was confronted by Elizabeth, and I hate George Grin.

HadronCollider · 07/08/2017 03:41

Elizabeth was great too. What a turn around in an episode[Grin] I found myself rooting for Elizabeth and George over Ross and Demelza when I've detested them all season.

ElspethFlashman · 07/08/2017 08:32

Christ, are they the better couple? What a turnaround! Grin

In fairness, R & D have a bloody mess of a marriage.

CoolCarrie · 07/08/2017 09:19

So is Rowella pregnant? And was she trying to help Morwella, or is she just a minx?

Inkanta · 07/08/2017 09:35

Did Demelza do it then?

Inkanta · 07/08/2017 09:39

Rowella was the star of the show for me! I'm sure she was in part helping out - drippy Morwella. Fancy Morwella saying she was going to kill the baby. Great come back. I know she didn't mean it but ... Hmm

HadronCollider · 07/08/2017 09:40

Yes the Poldark marriage is literally falling apart at the seams. Whilst the Warleggan's seems to be going from strength to strengthGrin. I thought Rowella was trying to help Morwella but not sure what her intentions are now. I'm suspicious tgat she's not pregnant.

Rockbird · 07/08/2017 09:43

You’ve got a long wait people! Read the books in the meantime Grin The game isn’t over yet, for any of them!

TheHiphopopotamus · 07/08/2017 09:45

I've really liked Elizabeth this series. I was rooting for her in the argument scene.

Would Osbourne have just accepted Morwenna's threat just like that though? When she threatened to smother the baby I was expecting him to chuck her in an asylum or something.

I think George has far more depth as a character than Ross (even though George is awful). Ross just stands on cliffs looking into the horizon and everyone thinks he's amazing even when he's an arsehole (and yes, I think Demelza 'did it'. And she's another who's been a wet dishrag this series).

HadronCollider · 07/08/2017 10:06

Ross is proactive, he risks his life to save his friends, who then repay him by shagging his wife.

Warleggan sends women down to goal for refusing to accept sexual assault by their betters. Not sure I'd say he has more depth as such, but his patent desire to put on a show must stem from a deep sense of inadequacy somewhere.

I think Demelza has been an idiot this season; 2 wrongs don't make a right.

AndromedaPerseus · 07/08/2017 10:13

Can't believe Demelza fell for the line of paraphrased "if you shag me now then I'll can go blind happily"

Inkanta · 07/08/2017 10:15

I wonder if Demelza enjoyed it then?

TheHiphopopotamus · 07/08/2017 10:17

It was phrased rather nicely andromeda I think I'd have fallen for it, tbh (but you're right Grin).

Actually, out of all of them, I think Dr Enys is my favourite. Caroline is a drippy twit though (haven't read the books so just going on the tv series).

ProseccoBitch · 07/08/2017 11:08

They just pack too much in, I spent half the time last night shouting "THATS NOT WHAT HAPPENS IN THE BOOK!!" at the TV.

AndromedaPerseus · 07/08/2017 12:42

That vicar is like a nasty version of Mr Collins from P&P and Morwenna a downtrodden Charlotte Lucas. Also why are most of the Poldark characters so good looking? Whenever I go to NT places the portraits of people of this era are at least a bit ugly probably due to limited gene pools. They would definitely not get as much action as the Poldark lot Grin

Rockbird · 07/08/2017 13:48

That’s because portraits at that time were painted to a romantic ideal rather than as a true depiction of the idiosyncratic features of the person in question Grin

Though the people who inspired the romantic ideals must have been ugly feckers Grin

squoosh · 07/08/2017 15:03

Delighted Demelza got up to no good in the sand dunes with that fella. She's been so annoying this series with that constipated expression permanently on her pus. Woe is Demelza all the bloody time, she bores the bloody life out of me! But yeah, what a line to fall for. Grin

Well done Rowella you scheming minx I tip my hat to you, even if they hurried that story line along too quickly for my liking. Don't fancy your ginger betrothed much though I must say.

And good woman Morwenna showing a bit of spark and threatening to kill the spawn of Ozzie unless Ozzie kept well away from the marital bed. A woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do when that monster is about to unbutton his trousers.

squoosh · 07/08/2017 15:05

Oh and I forgot Elizabeth! She was much sparkier than she's ever been before. I loved her calling George's bluff and acting more offended than a very offended thing at the suggestion that Valentine could possibly be Ross' son Grin

InigoTaran · 07/08/2017 15:07

The makers of Poldark should have taken note of The Handmaid's Tale - ten episodes from one book!
