Looking forward to watching this tonight. Feel it might be one to watch with your teenagers..

rale Many will hate your posts but I agree with you totally.

rale124 · 18/05/2017 21:28

Yes, because the uncomfortable truth about the traditional cultures of Islamic theoracies like those which exist in Pakistan did not sit well with a British culture which existed during and shortly after the Blair/Brown Labour government which was uncomfortable with discussing race or culture in anyway that could even be slighlty negative.

This British culture was introduced and enforced by left wing ideolgues while easily manipulated by predators.

Thankfully due to crimes like this that aspect of British culture is now dying if not dead.

BandeauSally · 18/05/2017 21:31
Angry

Is this an accurate portrayal of the way the victims were spoken to in court by the defence barristers?

LillianGish · 18/05/2017 21:35

Rale viewing white working class girls as slags is not exclusive to some members of the Pakistani community - it is a view which was shared by police, social workers, CPS and by implication members of juries (even Holly's dad was prepared to believe his daughter had been working as a prostitute). Thinking the problem will go away by getting rid of immigrant communities is as simplistic as parents who think they children could never be victims because they are.not in care.

derxa · 18/05/2017 21:39

which was uncomfortable with discussing race or culture in anyway that could even be slighlty negative and so the seeds of Brexit were born. I'm a Remainer but I'm privileged and white.

LillianGish · 18/05/2017 21:41

Anyone who voted Brexit because they don't like Pakistani immigrants is too stupid to warrant discussion.

derxa · 18/05/2017 21:45

Anyone who voted Brexit because they don't like Pakistani immigrants is too stupid to warrant discussion Yes but some people are just fed up. They lash out because they feel unimportant. They're correct. No one gives a shit about them.

ShitzandGiggles · 18/05/2017 21:46

Yes, this is still happening in Oxford and Banbury (Google Banbury grooming gangs). Mainstream media won't report because it is Asian men.

CurlsandCurves · 18/05/2017 21:46

The dads little speech about how proud he was of his daughter had me in tears. How much those girls went through. The abuse in the first place, not being believed, then having to go through the trial. Amazing young women.

Garlicansapphire · 18/05/2017 21:46

The court scenes were based on actual transcripts - so yes thats how those vulnerable girls were treated...

ASauvingnonADay · 18/05/2017 21:48

It's going on local to us, but white folk.

ASauvingnonADay · 18/05/2017 21:48

Ditto dad's speech. I'm a soggy mess. Fucking hell.

BandeauSally · 18/05/2017 21:53

Thanks garlican so infuriating.

StripeyCurtains · 18/05/2017 21:57

Am about 20 mins in here. Oh. My. God.

rale124 · 18/05/2017 22:01

Well for a start there is a difference between thinking someone is a slag and raping someone. Based on my interactions with many lower class Pakistani men I don"t think it ends with white working class girls, I think it extends to ALL white women. They don't say 'white working class girls are easy' they say 'white girls are easy' 'white girls are slags'. Working class girls are just the low hanging fruit of that tree.

Secondly I don't think the classism issue was as a major factor as the risk professionals involved in the case felt of been accused of having a racist agenda. It assisted certainly as maybe if it was a nice middle class girls, maybe a daughter of a mumsnetter, the professionals would of taken the risk.

So if there wasnt a single Pakistani in the country, these crimes commited by exclusively Pakistani offenders would still happen? That's illogical.

But I aren't suggesting that. I am suggesting stricter vetting for migrants to ensure willingness to adapt to Western culture along with other factors such as net economic benefits to the British econimy and for less to be accepted to force them to integrate into existing British communities instead of forming their own within.

I see the BBC is still preddling the same old 'white men are responsible for 90% of child sex offences' bullshit without controlling for population.

Don't worry though people, you've had a cry at the telly, back to supporting Corbyn tommorow so more people incompatible with British moral standards can turn up.

Muddlewitch · 18/05/2017 22:04

So the only person that lost their job was the only one that tried to act on what was happening?

colouringinagain · 18/05/2017 22:06

Sara was "made redundant" one year later. That is SO SO disgusting 😡 And my small town was on the list of places where prosecutions for grooming and sexual abuse has taken place. We have a significant Asian population 😟😡

I feel so appalled by this abuse, but equally by the reactions and failures of the police and social workers that painted these girls as criminals.

IMO Sara deserves Huge recognition for her absolutely fundamental role in the success at court in Rochdale then and on an ongoing basis.

Feeling seriously 😟😡 tonight.

CoolCarrie · 18/05/2017 22:09

Turn over to BBC 4 and watch more injustice!

isletsoffrangipane · 18/05/2017 22:09

Maybe we should kick all white male celebrities out of the country, given how many of those have exploited and raped children?

BandeauSally · 18/05/2017 22:10

Why the hell was sara excluded from working on child grooming initiatives?? Shock She made that entire case! Without her there would have been NO prosecutions? Those girls would have carried on being raped and abused and many more after them. I don't understand her employers' stance on this. Surely they would want to use her for exactly this purpose?? I don't get it.

rale124 · 18/05/2017 22:12

LillianGish - That is because you are either ignorant of the arguments or wilfully ignoring them to suit your politics.

Pro controlled immigration advocates oppose both EU and non EU migration for two seperate reasons. EU generally for economic reasons (i.e industry using migrant labour to drive down wages and conditions primarily within working class jobs) and non EU generally for social/cultural reasons.

crazycatgal · 18/05/2017 22:14

Sara needed promoting and giving a medal not being made redundant Angry

rale124 · 18/05/2017 22:17

If you can find a way to deport British nationals and a country to take convicted sex offenders then I don't think anyone would disagree with your proposal to deport white celebrities. Until then it is moronic whataboutery.

Also no one is suggesting deporting Pakistanis, that is impossible at this point as many have gained UK citizenship through naturalisation, marriage (often bought) or birth. The suggestion is stopping more coming at the rate they have been.

Hepzibar · 18/05/2017 22:21

There has been a massive police operation in Rochdale since, focusing on historic allegations and reports that were made. Agencies, services including schools, sexual health team, CAMHS etc have all been contacted for their old records to help secure prosecutions.

Sarah Rowbotham's records and referrals have been used to convict.

That's all I can say.

JigglyTuff · 18/05/2017 22:23

The fact that Amber was indicted was absolutely gobsmacking and that once again the fucking police get away with being misogynist to the core. Good on Maggie Oliver for having the courage of her convictions and Sara Rowbotham for continuing to fight for those girls, despite what she stood to lose.

Whoever said she deserves an OBE is right.
