@Dillite2 if you need a Clara fix my dd watched a film last night called me before you that had jenna Coleman in it. I haven't seen it but I know my dd's films and it will be a weepy.
Did you not spot Clara's theme ? When the doctor was about to wipe bills memories

I loved it too. I liked Nardole, thought he made a good foil to the Doctor actually, being the useful assistant and allowing Bill to just be new and confused for a bit.

Makes a change for the companion to not be sassy and snappy. Clara and Amy both had that in different ways but that doesn't suit Capaldis Doctor, the teacher and tutor is a nice relationship I think.

For the first time in at least three series I'm looking forward to episode two. Tardis

GinSwigmore · 15/04/2017 22:09

Tardis loved it Tardis

mogloveseggs · 15/04/2017 22:32

It was great! We all jumped a couple of times. First thing in ages that we've all (dh,me,dd12,ds5) sat down and watched. Roll on next week! Tardis

Funnyfarmer · 15/04/2017 22:43

I've just read that 'pilot' was wrote and part filmed before matt Lucas expressed an interest in being a main part of serise 10. So maybe that's why nardole seemed a bit of a spare part. So hopefully might see a bit more input from him in future episodes

Now the companion is a lesbian, I'm 100% sure the next Dr will be female. Can't see the writers passing up a lesbian TenRose rewrite. Yay! It's all good. Grin

PerspicaciaTick · 15/04/2017 23:26

That was brilliant. We all sat and watch it. I hid. Bill was excellent. Roll on next week.

Looks like Missy and The Master will both be back as there were snippets of both (and a regeneration, not sure if it was DW's or who exactly) in the Coming Soon bit at the end.

BroomstickOfLove · 15/04/2017 23:37

I really, really liked Bill. I wasn't expecting to at all - she seemed sll shrieky and irritating in the trailer. But she was clever, and curious, and brave and kind but not too kind.

Willow2017 · 16/04/2017 00:01

Loved it too.
My teen even came down to watch it and both of them hid their eyes and jumped at bits so result Smile

Loved the tutor angle and the bit with him running to see the 'puddle' while she was prattling on Grin

Wonder whats in 'the safe'?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/04/2017 00:06

I really like Bill. Thought the Doctor running away constantly from the water creature was a bit weird and pathetic.

AGnu · 16/04/2017 02:05

I was a bit Hmm at the start thinking that they were over-emphasising the lesbian thing, I was worried it would detract from the storyline or her character was going to constantly go on about it. After it was explicitly stated that "it's not men she wants to watch" the story trundled along nicely! It's been years since I've finished an episode & felt excited for more! About halfway through I did become particularly aware that our kitchen tap was dripping... I made DH go sort it! Blush

TheDrsDocMartens · 16/04/2017 03:38

I liked Bill. Loved the Tardis 'is it a knock through?'
One of the better new companion episodes

Gruach · 16/04/2017 07:07

That was excellent.

So delighted with the dynamic between Bill and the Doctor - they actually seem to get each other, whereas Clara and the Doctor always appeared to be speaking two different languages or speaking past each other. This new relationship makes PC so much more convincing.

Will the university story carry on all through the series? I rather like it. It suddenly seems obvious that he would have found a cosy place to be - rather than simply junketing about aimlessly.

And a wonderful monster too.

CaptainBraandPants · 16/04/2017 07:10

I really enjoyed it, too.
It was the right mix of scary, exciting and funny.
DS8 sat on my knee the whole way through and both laughed and hid his face. Grin DS12 watched it and he's not particularly a fan and usually leaves, so thumbs up all round.

CaptainBraandPants · 16/04/2017 07:12

Gruach I think the university theme will stay as he has to stay and guard the vault.
I agree with PP that the tutor/ student dynamic worked really well.

Snapespeare · 16/04/2017 07:52

Nardole sees a dalek and my heart leaps with hope! Finish him off, Moffat, I pray. But no.

Loved Bill, she's great. Loved Capaldi. Loved the photos on his desk & the photos of bills mum (& I hope we see those being taken)

Loathed Matt Lucas. Inability to act coupled with repeated gurning is really annoying. No point to the character. Set missy on him. (& Simms master seems to indicate regressive regenerations, so 'hello Sweetie!' a fiver on matt or David popping up)

RustyBear · 16/04/2017 08:43

The Sims Master reappearing doesn't have to be because of regressive regeneration though, just a crossing of the time streams, as in The Two/Three/Five Doctors, Time Crash and the 50th anniversary

Snapespeare · 16/04/2017 09:21

Or some flashbacky stuff. However, Moffat does enjoy messing with canon & popping in surprises (war doctor...) so regenerating forwards could be tinkered with. . Maybe missy picks up a nasty benjamin button style virus. 😄

Funnyfarmer · 16/04/2017 09:55

I've read somewhere that someone thinks they have a spotted an actor on set who played the master in the original series. Forgive me as i can't remember his name.
He showed pictures of the actor who he thought looked like the original master. Personally I couldn't see the resemblance but I've never really watched much of the classic serise ( runs and hides before whovians start throwing books at me)

Did anyone recognise the foster mother ?from 'gridlock' serise 3

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 16/04/2017 10:47

Loved Bill, and the photos were a really nice touch.

Matt Lucas wasn't as annoying as he could have been.

RustyBear · 16/04/2017 11:10

The master was played in the original series by Roger Delgado, Peter Pratt, Geoffrey Beevers and Anthony Ainley.

The only one of those who is still alive is Geoffrey Beevers, and the version of the Master he played was heavily disfigured after a failed regeneration, so if someone spotted him on set they must have sharp eyes! Or maybe he was wearing the original make-up.

It's quite possible that they might be bringing him back for some kind of Master regeneration/past incarnations scene. Geoffrey Beevers has been involved with Who since the classic series ended - he's been in several Big Finish audio productions, as well as a couple of 'Liz Shaw,' videos (he was married to Caroline John who played Liz Shaw.)

Strummerville · 16/04/2017 11:17

I really liked this episode. The dynamic between the Dr and Bill was just so good, it just worked. I didn't like PC as the Dr until this ep - don't know if it was the writing or the companion relationship or both, but this fills me with hope!

I'm back on board, yay Grin

Thegirlinthefireplace · 16/04/2017 11:35

Ooh I've found my people.

Loved it and was really pleasantly surprised. The writing has been disappointing for PC but thought it was great last night and Bill looked tres irritating from the trailers but she was, in fact, fab.

Whole family loved it.

Also very excited to see john simm. I'm assuming we see him regenerate to Missy. It can't be missy to john sim as we already saw derek Jacobi regenerate into john simm.

GinSwigmore · 16/04/2017 11:40

I am in the minority clearly but I like the Matt Lucas character.
