I think the writing was to blame for the crap ness of last couple of seasons, I don't think Pc had much of a chance

Oh, I completely agree. Moffat should have been given the boot at least two series ago (which is a shame as I had such high hopes for him. Some of my favourite RTD era episodes were Moffatts 😕). Unfortunately, PC has got the blame along with SM, which is a real shame because given the right scripts and companion, PC would've been an amazing Doctor.

I hope he goes out on a high, anyway.

Funnyfarmer · 16/04/2017 15:34

Kris Marshall? Really? Have sun been reading my thread? That's who I said the other day.

Please not Kris Marshall. He'll ruin it. There's a reason he's barely done anything since My Family, except the Bt Ads.

5foot5 · 16/04/2017 16:56

Excellent start I thought. Really like Bill. Also they didn't overcomplicate the plot. Greatly encouraged for the rest of the series now

Funnyfarmer · 16/04/2017 17:20

He has done a lot more than my family and bt ads. I think he'll be good. I've always thought that. Just find it bizarre that I wrote just 3 days ago on this very thread that I thought he would be good. And now it's in the papers. And apparently bookies have stopped taking bets on him

Funnyfarmer · 16/04/2017 17:24

If it does turn out to be true, and he's shit. You're all going to blame me arn't you?

Funny Farmer,works for the BBC....

GaladrielsRing · 16/04/2017 18:05

There was another thread when PC announced he was leaving and Kris marshalls name was floating about then as a replacement. I suggested Noel Fielding (still think he'd be ace!)

TheHiphopopotamus · 16/04/2017 18:10

I think Noel Fielding would be a better Doctor than he would presenter for Bake Off Confused

Funnyfarmer · 16/04/2017 18:17

If I worked for the BBC who would have had way better storyline's Grin

OP posts:
GaladrielsRing · 16/04/2017 18:26

Hoping the bake off is just a cover story to keep us off the scent Grin

Comealongpond89 · 16/04/2017 18:35

God not Noel fielding!!! I could never take him seriously

BroomstickOfLove · 16/04/2017 19:08

I don't really want another young white male doctor.

GaladrielsRing · 16/04/2017 19:13

@broomstick why not?

Riversleep · 16/04/2017 19:22

To be fair to Moffat, I think he wanted to leave after series 7, when he'd clearly lost his mojo. They had massive problems finding someone to take over from him. He carried on because he didn't want production to stop completely for a couple of years until they found a replacement. I havent enjoyed PC much, although I did enjoy this last episode. I think they made a mistake with his characterisation, but Matt Smith had a say in what he wanted to do in relation to his characterisation, from the outfit to his personality and he was just some young fella no one had heard of who they were paying 1/5 of Tennants salary. I don't believe they then did not allow Capaldi a say in the unlikeable personality and odd outfit that had no outstanding features. I think having too many mega fans meant they both looked too far into the past. RTD and Tennant were super fans too, but it was still a new reboot. And RTD really wanted to throw they whole thing in the air and make it new.

GinSwigmore · 16/04/2017 19:42

Like a pp I loved Clara in her first soufflé girl incarnation and the Xmas episode but just didn't take to her after that. Haven't seen that much of PC but did like the last two Xmas episodes (was always a fan of River) and a dalek episode with Missy (Clara stuck in the dalek again).
But yesterday's episode did seem fresher and easy to follow and genuinely scary. Saw it with middle DD watching Tardis for the first time which was a joy, especially when she leapt in the air and squealed (at Heather shooting up to grab Bill). Peter Capaldi is on Netflix now I might have to go back and rewatch.
Kris Marshall bets no longer being taken was interesting yes and I did think of you straight away OP!! Will he be any good? He might be. He has decent comic timing so might be lighter than PC.

Funnyfarmer · 16/04/2017 19:43

Who would you like to see @broomstick?
After serise 7, think Moffat was more commitment to Sherlock than to dr. Who. I feel he should have took a step back from the writing if that's how he felt. Who has many fab writers. Moffat still could have been responsible for story arcs and casting and still had the final say.
I believe that CP has had a lot of input on his character. I was reading another thread a while ago on fb and it was mentioned there

Also does anyone know? Probably a question for those who have watched right from the very beginning. Are all galiffrayens time Lord's/ ladies? Or is it just the high council that are time Lord's and only they have the ability to regenerate? Or can everyone from the planet gallifray regenerate?

OP posts:
LouiseBrooks · 16/04/2017 19:57

I've watched since the first episode and have no idea, sorry. I'm not even sure if the subject was addressed. In yesterday's episode the doctor had a photo of Susan, his granddaughter, on his desk and I thought it was supposed to mean she was dead. Obviously she'd be younger than him but there was no suggestion she could regenerate. (Who was her mother? I don't think that's been addressed either.)

QueenieGoldstein · 16/04/2017 20:03

I think everyone can because of Jenny (Doctor's daughter) regenerating although she stayed the same...

BestIsWest · 16/04/2017 20:04

First one in a while that we've all watched and enjoyed. Not too complicated and plenty of humour.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 16/04/2017 20:09

They aren't all time lords as I remember them saying in Listen about whether the Doctor would make it to the Academy to become a time lord (I think).

River could regenerate and wasn't a time lady strictly so I think the two can be separated and aren't mutually exclusive.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 16/04/2017 20:10

Sorry wrong use of mutually exclusive there but you get what I mean hopefully.

Snapespeare · 16/04/2017 20:11

The doctor has more than one child, in 'the doctors daughter' he tells donna he has been a father before, but that his children are all dead. No discussion of Susans parentage.

I think time lord/ladyship is earned. Probably quite tough exams. I THINK it was intended that Ace went off to Gallifrey to learn how to be a time lady (might be making that up) which would imply not confined to gallifreyans; but this didn't happen as series cancelled and they went off to have a cup of tea instead.

Snapespeare · 16/04/2017 20:13

River could regenerate as conceived in the tardis. Gallifreyan children can't regenerate as they haven't learned how yet (unless they were also conceived in a tardis...)
