Way hay! Cue countless 'fans' who will insist that they won't watch the show now. The show who's central premise is regeneration and change.

She's a great actress. Watch attack the block if you are unsure.

I did wonder if Chris would cast someone from Broadchurch, given that the show runners quite often seem to favour someone they've worked with before.

and next doctor? hmm. Muslim/black/gay/LGBT/disabled. check.

ooh, and if we bring back Romana and the Rani, thers NO way we can change them into men, theres not enough women on tv, you know. song in my head, fun boy 3- the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

Sure. Not a single popular male actor left, nor scientist or politician, no male writers, no businessmen, no athletes other than footballers. It's a women's world, poor blokes. Hang on... nope, it's just fine. Just an actress being given a coveted role.

That was one hell of an underwhelming trailer Wasn't it just? I've never heard of her, so I'll reserve judgement on her acting, but she looks a bit dull and nondescript. Maybe they'll quirk her up a bit. Tbh, anyone's better than Peter Capaldi for me. This last series, I haven't cared about any of the characters or storylines.

I like her as an actress, but not for this role.

I thought I would hate PC as the Doctor but I loved him in the part so will have to wait and see. I was born in 1960 so the doctor is totally male in my mind and it will be tricky to get used to this new regeneration. Bake off on channel 4 and a female doctor. It's a year of great change :)

She's a fantastic actress. I'm kind of surprised to see people wittering over having a woman in the role. Seriously, you knew it was way, way overdue yes?

Master was male, too til she was Missy. It's a bloody alien from a planet now tucked away in a pocket universe. She has two hearts, is 2000 years old and looks randomly human. Grows new everything during each regeneration and travels in time, but weirdly opposite the wife. Eats fish finger and custard and lives in a tiny box bigger than London on the inside. Why is "woman" such an untakeable leap?

Her big problem once the hair ripping has died down will be following Peter Capaldi - I know he's been a bit marmite for some fans but he's been given some huge moments that played to his strengths - I couldn't see any other DW actor male or female doing Heaven Sent for example. He's left some pretty big boots to fill.
On the other hand there'll be no swooning companions like Rose

i think the character flaws of dr who suit a male actor better, it's not about men being more heroic or anything for me. This actress is just really bland and boring in my opinion, and others it seems. The first female dr could have been interesting. I realise I'm over invested having watched since 1979 or thereabouts.

If, perchance, the new Doc turns out to be Bill's type, there could well be Rose-y type swooning.

There is more than a passing resemblance to Heather, her current love interest...

But Bill is a water creature now and needs no tardis or doctor to travel. Is Nardole staying? He's starting to grow on me.

Jodie is an amazing actor. I just think it's a massive risk to take.
I'm a big believer if it's not broke. I feel like there is absolutely no need to change something that has worked so well for 50+ years.
Also the genetics bug me. I'm well aware it's not real but how the he'll do timelords reproduce?
I won't be turning off I will still be glued to my screen when it's on. I hope it works. I really do. But yes I am a little disappointed.
