I'm really looking forward to the new series tomorrow! Just watched the last two of the first series - I'll be interested to see how it pans out, as I'm not too sure how it will work 'outside' of the car....! It's one of the few comedy shows that makes me laugh, and it's got a lovely 'gentle' feel to it (or maybe I'm just getting a bit old and soppy....)

Anyone else?

I suppose not understanding Elsie was part of it because she was supposed to be very drunk. I struggled to understand but dh found it okay. That was my least favourite episode of the series.

cowgirlsareforever · 18/04/2017 08:52

I think Sian Gibson is such a great actress. I can't believe that she's struggled to find work for years. I hope to see a lot more of her on TV now.

The80sweregreat · 18/04/2017 09:10

I can imagine that Sian will find more work on tv now as this programme is such a hit. It was good that he didnt choose someone who was already on tv or more well known to play her, as she is just perfect.

I agree that episode 2 isnt as good as the others - started out funny with the smurfette , but just went on a bit too long. My two couldnt get over that he is in game of thrones, then turns up in this! ( i dont watch GoT so had no idea )

leccybill · 18/04/2017 10:46

I think I saw a trailer for a new programme on BBC with Sian Gibson in? Looked like a comedy?

NotJanine · 18/04/2017 11:02

yes I saw that - set in a hospital?

Was Elsie meant to be an actual woman?

The80sweregreat · 18/04/2017 12:29

i couldnt work out if Elsie was a man or woman either, but i was so irritated by her / him going on i didnt bother to find out really! I think it was meant to be a woman?
have to watch it again.
The hospital one looks good. new comedy now on tv thats actually good and not Mrs brown ( which i really do not like)

Raahh · 18/04/2017 12:51

I cannot stand Mrs Brown. I have never been able to watch more than a couple of minutes. Maybe it's men in drag. Actually that's not true- sometimes it can be hilarious.

The80sweregreat · 18/04/2017 13:01

i did find the first one funny, mrs brown was a bit different. But the pudding was over egged a long time ago and its time for it to be put to bed really! Nothing against drag by the way.

Magicpaintbrush · 18/04/2017 13:10

Why is this series only 4 episodes when the last series was 6??? This series feels too short. :-(

The80sweregreat · 18/04/2017 13:12

I bet there will be a one off special at christmas or something - it ended too abruptly - maybe Kayleigh will surprise us all..

Davros · 18/04/2017 16:39

I wasn't sure if Elsie was supposed to be a woman. I will watch again with subtitles! Last week's RT has the full playlist from Forever FM but in six episodes so I assume it's from the first series. I think I'll watch series 1 again and series 2 and see which the playlist matches! It says that "I Love to Love" by Tina Charles came out in 1993. It might have been re-released then but definitely came out first around 1975, I remember hearing it on the school radio that was supposed to be used for English lessons but kept in our form room!

coldcanary · 18/04/2017 19:18

I first thought that Elsie was his actual Nan, I wouldn't have put it past him and had to google to check!
Turns out she's an experienced background actor (and definitely female Smile)

Raahh · 18/04/2017 19:24

cold the actor is definitely male, his name is Conleth Hill.

coldcanary · 18/04/2017 19:26

Oh bollocks I must have read the wrong name on the cast list then Blush
Still thought it was his real Nan though..

Raahh · 18/04/2017 19:29

cold it's an easy mistake. I googled whilst i was watching, because at first i wondered if it was someone else ,( but i cant remember who) and at one point he even sounded like Kay did when he was 'geraldine'Grin

GinSwigmore · 18/04/2017 19:51

^ yes I thought it was Kay in drag but couldn't work out how they would have filmed it. Which is how I found out it was TitsnDragons bloke. Will try and rewatch in an hour and see if I can understand more Grin

NotJanine · 18/04/2017 21:06

Cold Elsie is the drunk colleague dressed as a smurf. I think he just calls the older lady Nanna rather than a name.

EnidButton · 18/04/2017 21:09

Epic cross post. Grin

user1471466073 · 18/04/2017 21:25

I thought Elsie was quite funny. Has some great line 'sour cream Pringles are like crack' 'She has a S shaped vagina'
Agree, I wouldn't want her in every episode but enjoyed seeing Kayleigh's drunk chat.
Love the show. Hoping for a Christmas special also.

hollyisalovelyname · 19/04/2017 09:51

I loved Elsie's accent, but I had to put the subtitles on. Blush

The80sweregreat · 19/04/2017 14:31

I kept thinking that the blue make up must have been awful - i would have been itching and swelling up if it had been me!
Must take ages to film everything too - poor bloke.
The way he kept on flicking his wig around was funny - there were some good outfits going on -
'You broke the mould, Elsie'
John: 'they shut it down after they made you'

dottypotter · 19/04/2017 16:27

awful episode dialogue was terrible.

Davros · 19/04/2017 19:50

I think it was blue make up only on the face (bad enough), the rest was a long sleeved/legged blue suit
