Starting this one as I finished last one...

So, Daniela I think will win as it looks like it's been written/plotted that way since the beginning..

I don't think Daniela is either outstandingly good or bad - she's fine, she's okay.

That's why the mega enthusiasm of the judges is so weird.

The first time she appeared, Daniel and Kelly bigger her up so much, I thought - 'Does she know them?' - it was just like ridiculous.

But here she is in the final - quelle surprise!

Saw it coming from her first appearance and it had nothing to do with her design - and everything to do with what the judges were signalling in the voiceover.

'Hey viewers, Daniela is good, good good...'

Bit brainwashy without ever really explaining why she is better than the others.

I don't think she's bad - but there is not enough discernible difference to justify the bigging up that she gets.

Written in the stars eh?

Completely wrong that the judges should have such a vested interest. In spite of advice to contestants to stretch themselves and step out of comfort zones etc etc they were only ever going to win if they stuck to the muted tones of Hoppen's own portfolio.

ppeatfruit · 26/01/2017 13:38

I wouldn't have minded the muted tones if they had been used well and imaginatively Lilian . Not embellished with the same grey fake marble EVERY time fgs.

I just remembered her idea of "Scandi", from one of the beginning programmes, was to remove (or cover up) a perfectly acceptable vanity unit and cover it in plain white MDF . I KNOW that the Scandinavians would have just rubbed it down and painted the actual unit in off white chalk paint, or emulsion , if they couldn't afford chalk paint. Then maybe 'distressed' it gently.

Henrysmycat · 26/01/2017 13:43

Well, most of the week in Surrey. The rest in Marylebone area in London, I've seen him in Marylebone. He's a dapper dresser. It looks a bit OTT on TV but good in RL. He's very good-looking if that's your type.
I usually leave these kind of people alone but next time, I am going to voice my disappointment. Angry

ppeatfruit · 26/01/2017 13:47

I do get the idea that he may be gay actually. Henrys .

Henrysmycat · 26/01/2017 14:28

Of course he is! It's obvious in very subtle manner but that does not detract from the fact that he is a lovely looking individual, well dressed and well presented.

SapphireStrange · 26/01/2017 15:27

Thanks Henrys! It would be funny to see how he reacted if all these MNetters went up to him and started haranguing him for choosing Daniela. Grin

I do think if it had been him and Sophie judging on their own they'd have gone for Oliver.

evrybuddy · 26/01/2017 16:36

*"Daniela has gone on to work alongside Kelly Hoppen, assisting with client projects, styling, and consultation

This has got stitch up written all over it. "*

Couldn't put it better than Fontella but it's annoyed me so much, I'll have another go!

I feel we the viewers have been mugged off on so many levels with this show.

The BBC have misrepresented it from the beginning as a competition when clearly, everyone could see there was no genuine competition.

The moment, in round one, I saw Kelly Hoppen talk about Daniela, I knew.
It was written all over her face.
And I'm not claiming to be special. Lots of people on this thread said they could see it.

Kelly Hoppen needs to get better at lying if she wants to pull the same stunt next year and attempt to rebuild her credibility as an 'independent' judge - she has no hope of that in my eyes.

The BBC think we're stupid enough to not see the 'fix' - how insulting is that?

The other presenters ought to be ashamed of themselves for assisting Kelly and Daniela and shafting all the other clearly pointless contestants - what a waste of all their time and efforts.

Kelly Hoppen's a frigging disgrace.
The show's a disgrace.
Daniel's a disgrace for going along with it.

A cheap, tatty, crappy production.

Can you tell it pissed me off that I gave over all those hours of my life to this pile of shit masquerading as a competition?

I liked Oliver's earlier work but hated all the blues in the final.
Could KH really be that influential re Victoria Beckham Daniella.
Would the BBC allow it?
Would Daniel go along with it.?
The final may have been filmed much earlier in the year and time has passed and Kelly thinks Daniella has what it takes having seen her work on the show.
I think Nicholas ? ( older man- theatre producer/ actor ) was way better than Richard as was another girl ( I forget her name- she did Moroccan themed interiors).

evrybuddy · 26/01/2017 17:40

People were commenting from Daniela's first appearance that Kelly was gushing over her.

Kelly Hoppen is a big catch and a big draw for viewers for the BBC.

Part of her and her agent's negotiations with the BBC may well have been a follow on deal with the winner.

Think how much the publicity is worth for Kelly and Daniela products - it's a huge boost and They all win - Kelly, Daniela and BBC Enterprises who would have negotiated a percentage of resulting contracts/sales.

Same with Bake-off and Masterchef and all the resulting books and dvds - everything's about the money and everybody knows in advance what the 'best' product will be.

It's not middle aged men - young, attractive women sell products.

I know that, you know that, the BBC know that, Kelly knows, Daniel knows.

We can't all kid ourselves we don't know.

Saddening though - the reality of lives as products.

And viewers as consumers - not just watchers - potential purchasers

Sorry to but in, I've been following the thread and couldn't take Daniela seriously as a designer right from the first episode when she did her Miami Tropicana theme bedroom and included fucking cactii.

She has no cohesive references in her designs. She just chucks a load of individual bits at it.

LillianGish · 27/01/2017 08:14

It definitely felt fixed from the start - also there seemed to be a much reduced field of competitors for this competition. Pity because I love the show, but feels like a bit of a swizz when it ends up looking like a way for Kelly Hoppen to find her new assistant. Didn't particularly like her as a judge even before I knew she was going to give the winner a job - I find her own designs too bland and hotel room. It's what passes for good taste and is pretty ubiquitous now. I also think the idea of Kelly Hoppen working within a budget of £1,000 and in 48 hours is fairly laughable - indeed I'd like to see her try! I thought the show was about finding someone fresh and new. I preferred Sophie as a judge because she didn't seem to bring so much baggage with her same goes for Daniel - they are not so tied to a particular style.

bluehouse1 · 27/01/2017 09:40

THe reason that they had fewer competitors was that, by the time a competitor had got to the final, they were totally frazzled, as they had been through so many shows. Having looked at the final of the previous season, I can believe that.
Also, the show was on at prime time. Previously it had been on at 7pm, which was a cheaper slot.
FWIW I don't think it was a fix at all. Obviously lots of people disagree with the verdict, but that doesn't mean it was rigged.

bluehouse1 · 27/01/2017 09:44

sorry, I should have said 'by the time the competitor had got to the final in the previous series'

ppeatfruit · 27/01/2017 09:52

Well I'm not quick to shout "Fix" But I disagree with you bluehouse I don't think there was a lot to choose between the finalists (they weren't much cop) but I still think that Daniela was not the best.

ZaZathecat · 27/01/2017 10:51

Bluehouse, did the competitors do the same kind of thing in heats leading up to the TV show? Please tell everything you know about the process, I'm fascinated. (I don't want to be a competitor btw).

NormaSmuff · 29/01/2017 17:08

So they liked Daniella because they recognize it as similar to their own taste. basically Hmm

ppeatfruit · 29/01/2017 18:07

Well not reeelly, Norma Hmm , his taste is far more sophisticated and adult than Daniella's. Though I can see where you're coming from Grin I don't think he'd entertain mock marble effect vaginas on his wall though Grin

NormaSmuff · 29/01/2017 18:23

I bet he would Grin
who wouldnt Wink

ppeatfruit · 31/01/2017 10:55

Erm …. a gay man? Grin

Trollspoopglitter · 31/01/2017 11:39

Swoon. Daniel's logo is just fab. I love it!

Trollspoopglitter · 31/01/2017 11:45

Serious colour envy. I want to repaint my hallway from light grey to power purple now Grin

LillianGish you're right, it was like an interior design version of The Apprentice!

Bit late to the party but I agree with all of you, Oliver was robbed and I couldn't stand any of Daniela's cheap and nasty designs. It did seem like it was set up. The fact she is now working with Kelly Hoppen makes my teeth itch!

ppeatfruit · 06/02/2017 11:26

Perhaps someone should question the beeb about it?

What made it worse (if anything could!) was the standard of the houses they used , they were beautiful! The new interior designs definitely did not match the class of the houses.

RTKangaMummy · 06/02/2017 12:21

Ooooooh we have that purple in our corridor GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

It is called PURPLE POUT and we have a stripey purple and pale grey carpet with it

Is that your house or a photo from his house?
