The Great Interior Design Challenge 2017 ... CONTINUED

Starting this one as I finished last one...

So, Daniela I think will win as it looks like it's been written/plotted that way since the beginning..

I don't think Daniela is either outstandingly good or bad - she's fine, she's okay.

That's why the mega enthusiasm of the judges is so weird.

The first time she appeared, Daniel and Kelly bigger her up so much, I thought - 'Does she know them?' - it was just like ridiculous.

But here she is in the final - quelle surprise!

Saw it coming from her first appearance and it had nothing to do with her design - and everything to do with what the judges were signalling in the voiceover.

'Hey viewers, Daniela is good, good good...'

Bit brainwashy without ever really explaining why she is better than the others.

I don't think she's bad - but there is not enough discernible difference to justify the bigging up that she gets.

Written in the stars eh?

Mmmmn thanks Trollspoop looks a bit sus. to me, the standard must 've been pretty low wherever she got her degree is all I can say. She designed the interiors of her OWN homes in the Balearics, notice they are careful to state. Sounds like a load of Balearics to me !!!!!

Nodowntime · 23/01/2017 20:11

How could Daniela have worked for 15 years in fashion design when she is 31 and on the programme she said she stopped working once she had kids and was just "reclaiming" herself or something to that effect with this project. So 15 years minus a few childbearing years, nothing adds up Confused

I am actually speechless about the fact that she is now working for Kelly Hoppen. Can BBC just create a fixed show, just like that?? Or did KH play the BBC and just pushed her own agenda, or shall I say agent??Shock Are people at the BBC aware how massively disappointing this show has been this time round, and how it looks like a fix? If there's going to be another series with KH again and the same format, I'm not going to bother watching 😶

Nodowntime · 23/01/2017 20:19

I meant 15 years and the time she took off to have children, that's another few years to add and then it just looks like her professional career started when she was 11-12 Confused
Eh doesn't really matter I guess...But then if she wasn't a photographer but a professional interior designer why include her in the competition for amateurs?

Trollspoopglitter · 23/01/2017 20:58

Basically, she never had a professional career, I suspect. Hence why she can reference all her degrees and student awards, and "designing" her parents' homes... But I don't think she actually held a professional job (that could be independently verified by any journalist) hence why she was a "professional photographer." She probably studied, had kids, moved abroad, moved back... And ahem, somehow ended up marketed as the young Kelly Hoppen on this show. A loooooot of Hollywood producin' happening here. Hmm

Shame. Doubt I will watch again, as it's all a bit too reality show/let's create drama people crap.

Reminds me of that show unReal on Amazon prime about how reality shows are produced.

I'm surprised that Daniel and the little bloke in the matelot top, who pops up occasionally, would be party to such blatant 'pushing' favouritism of a contestant by KH.

One would hope that they at least would have a more professional approach to the show.

ZaZathecat · 24/01/2017 12:23

This series has put me off the show but I love watching a decent interior design show so I wish there was something else (and that's on for more than 3 weeks a year). But I DON'T want long life stories or dramas, nor do I want the '60 minute makeover' type stuff with the repetitive narrative and the rushed, bodged job that has to happen. In theory TGIDC is perfect but it's being ruined.
Maybe I should just decorate my own home - but it's so much more relaxing watching it!

ppeatfruit · 24/01/2017 12:29

Yes I know exactly what you mean ZaZa. I love to watch that type of show for ideas for my own decorative dreams! There needs to be something without the stupid competitive element that so many telly shows have nowadays. Why do the 'powers that be" think that that's what we want fgs?????

Maybe some of you twitterers need to get on their accounts and tell them!!!!

Fontella · 24/01/2017 14:05

Daniela has gone on to work alongside Kelly Hoppen, assisting with client projects, styling, and consultation

This has got stitch up written all over it.

In hindsight, the OP of this thread really hit the nail on the head but when I first saw I thought it was wrong. After watching the heats I just thought Daniela was unlikely to win it. After the semi-finals I thought 'she's not good enough to win it'. After the finals I thought 'she's definitely not going to win it' and when they said her name, it was WTF? Confused

I love interior design too and watched every moment of this series, but the result was an absolute joke. Also Sophie as a guest judge who clearly, from both her comments and reaction, preferred Oliver's rooms - so what was the point of even inviting on her there?

I agree they need an interior design series that is informative and entertaining but without the so called 'judges'.

And if they do bring back this series again they need to get rid of Kelly Hoppen - she brought nothing to it in terms of the viewer, and I also I think she had a huge influence on that ridiculous decision.

Trollspoopglitter · 24/01/2017 14:37

ZaZa, do you remember Sophie on 60 minute makeovers? She was one of the designers. I can't find any video clips but I always remember this unfortunate makeover.

That's the "after" btw

Bless, she's come far in five years.

No I don't, Troll, I only ever watched if I was desperate. That room look OK for a little girl - assuming that's who it was for, but basically just a pink room with a butterfly bed in it. And no storage.

Dillite2 · 24/01/2017 15:29

I had no idea that Sophie used to do 60MM. That room is awfully little girly, but then that was probably what was wanted, having seen the show before.

I had to stop watching Four in a Bed because of the unnecessary daily competitions which became the main part of the programme.

SapphireStrange · 24/01/2017 15:53

Did Sophie present 60MM? (I've never seen it).

ZaZathecat · 24/01/2017 16:29

I think Troll wad saying Sophie used to be one of the featured designers on it, not the presenter.

SapphireStrange · 24/01/2017 16:38

OK, I see. Thanks!

Fontella · 24/01/2017 16:43

Sophie is apparently joining DIY SOS.

HandbagCrab · 24/01/2017 16:54

That living room was like something from A Clockwork Orange.

LillianGish · 26/01/2017 08:26

Only just found this thread after watching the final game on iplayer. Nothing new to add really, just happy to find so many people of the same opinion. It felt like a fix to me when Daniela went through in the first round. Knowing she has gone on to work with with Kelly "taupe, beige, griege - anything that's not an actual colour and looks like a hotel room" Hoppen explains it all. Didn't like Kelly as a judge - missed Sophie throughout the series. I think picking someone as a judge who has such a defined style and preferences is a mistake - especially if that person is looking to employ the winner. Fix, fix, fix - shame on the BBC.

ppeatfruit · 26/01/2017 10:18

Hello (waves) Lilian Grin I agree btw Grin

LillianGish · 26/01/2017 11:03

Waves back to Ppeat

Henrysmycat · 26/01/2017 11:20

I just caught this on iplayer as I was overseas and all I have to say is WTAF?Shock
Daniela's rooms were horrid. I'm sorry but white tiled fire place looking like public toilet? The weird colour scheme? The unfinished kitchen with wallpaper as a splashback and only a flimsy piece of plexiglass to protect and btw making highly unsafe? Plexiglass near a cooker? WTF?
The string curtain as a light fixture? WAAAAH? I'd probably would have rip the whole place and start again. What a clusterfuck of a show! Daniel Hopgood is my neighbour, I've seen him around the 'hood and I love both of their work but this series were redic. What a shame!

ppeatfruit · 26/01/2017 11:51

Oooh Henry show him this thread !!!!

ppeatfruit · 26/01/2017 11:54

I'm usually a peaceable type of person but when the two finalists were standing in front of the judges I said "if the woman wins I'm going to kick the TV in."

I didn't of course but I was very Angry and shocked.

LillianGish · 26/01/2017 12:09

It feels like the whole process was basically just a way of Kelly Hoppen testing out a few possibles before hiring someone.

SapphireStrange · 26/01/2017 12:11

Oooh, where do you/does he live, Henrys? and does he wear his terrible pulled-up weird-coloured trousers in RL
