Starting this one as I finished last one...

So, Daniela I think will win as it looks like it's been written/plotted that way since the beginning..

I don't think Daniela is either outstandingly good or bad - she's fine, she's okay.

That's why the mega enthusiasm of the judges is so weird.

The first time she appeared, Daniel and Kelly bigger her up so much, I thought - 'Does she know them?' - it was just like ridiculous.

But here she is in the final - quelle surprise!

Saw it coming from her first appearance and it had nothing to do with her design - and everything to do with what the judges were signalling in the voiceover.

'Hey viewers, Daniela is good, good good...'

Bit brainwashy without ever really explaining why she is better than the others.

I don't think she's bad - but there is not enough discernible difference to justify the bigging up that she gets.

Written in the stars eh?

I'm going to don my tin hat and disagree with most of you. I think the right person won .

I think she had some brilliant ideas, even if they weren't to everyone's liking. The idea of the telly cabinet worked, imho. The dark floor against the white walls worked. I thought the kitchen worked. The idea of mirroring the kitchen cabinets to create the illusion of space worked. The concrete worked.

She wasn't afraid to stretch the minds of the clients and to be a bit "out there". She was edgy and imaginative. She's not the finished product; she is creative and has potential however.

I prefered Oliver's rooms right throughout the competition but in the end I think he lost because his "look" was a bit one-dimensional. And very, very blue.

So sad it's overSad. Can't wait for next year.

ppeatfruit · 20/01/2017 15:36

absolutely Fetch yer hard hat Grin That kitchen would not have "worked" if by worked you mean would have been lovely to actually 'cook' in . Think of all the grease on those strange glass (or plastic?) mirror type doors. It felt so cold.

Olivers' was 100% better.

absolutelynotfabulous · 20/01/2017 15:48

pp I've already got my tin hat on!

I get what you mean-of course that kitchen would be impractical-but what I was trying to say was that the ideas were good. In principle.

I know I'm not articulating myself very wellGrin

namechangingagainagain · 20/01/2017 15:52

thank you coco

off now to follow olivers intagram ( and sophie too- beans on toast for tea tonight!!)

littlemissneela · 20/01/2017 16:54

I too thought Daniella did a great job and deserved to win. I did not like her kitchen though the mirrored cupboard fronts were lovely. Her bedroom was beautiful, and I could imagine how gorgeous it would look at dusk and in the evening. Just wish she had finished off the light with some trim to hide the staples. I prefer Olivers work though, as it was more opulent. I didn't like his study come guest room as it felt too flat. It might have looked more modern with white or off white walls with the rest of the room as it was. But, I think he didn't win because he didn't stretch himself more, especially with the colours he chose.

Anyone know where he got the green kitchen tiles from, as they are exactly what I am looking for, for my new kitchen (when I eventually get it).

ppeatfruit · 20/01/2017 17:08

That tongue and groove pine wall of Dani's in the Broadstairs one was beyond hideous. I may be showing my age here, I remember that orange pine absolutely everyeffing where , it wasn't a good look then and it certainly isn't a good look now!!!!! Shock YUCK.

ElspethFlashman · 20/01/2017 17:33

I believe those tiles are the type known as subway tiles?

ppeatfruit · 20/01/2017 17:43

The ones Oliver used? I liked them a lot and I will use something similar in my refurbished kitchen.

SapphireStrange · 20/01/2017 17:57

Daniela was shite.

The staples showed in her bedroom light.

Her splash thingy in the kitchen fell off.

Her bedroom was clinical, echoey and cold.

The TV cabinet made the room look like a mortuary.

She should have left that parquet well alone.

Homeowners were ambivalent, whereas Oliver's client loved it all.

Travesty.

Nice to see Sophie back though, although I have warmed to Kelly over the series. Daniel looked so pleased to have his little friend back too, bless him.

littlemissneela · 20/01/2017 18:02

I know the style name, I just wanted to know if anyone knew where to buy them, as they looked glass and are a beautiful green. The exact green I am after Smile

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/01/2017 18:45

I thought they were glass - with some special adhesive, so it looked right - but I was wrong. I have only seen those subway tiles in white or cream - I like them much better in that pale green.

ElspethFlashman · 20/01/2017 19:10

I have seen them in that type of translucent aqua colour before when file shopping myself - it's really lovely. I think you'll probably be able to find them.

ElspethFlashman · 20/01/2017 19:14

They're also called metro tiles, btw.

Smallangryplanet · 20/01/2017 19:17

I think the right person one Daniela just edged it. However impractical, I loved how the kitchen looked and liked the bedroom too. Finish was horrid in both cases. The living room was fucking awful.

I liked Oliver but didn't like any of the rooms he did.

In 100% of designs the major difference was how the before and afters were lit. Rainy day /no lights = before; bright sunny day /lamps and ceiling lights on = after. Equivalent of room selfies.

Nodowntime · 20/01/2017 19:20

Wasn't Daniella's light fitting something which you could potentially get tangled up if you sat up on your bed in the middle of the night, or even caught and pull down during bedroom activities Grin ? I thought the idea was good, but the strands were way too long for it too be good feng shui, it wasn't out of the way enough.

The same with the floating shelves right in the doorway in the kitchen, they looked like something very painful to bump into when you forget they are there and go through unthinkingly in the dark, for instance. Though I didn't know you could buy bronze mirrored fronts on cabinets, something to borrow as an idea for future house updating. Though obviously totally wrong with push doors, as already been said.

Nothing to add about the living room :), it's all been said. I can see she is designy, and while Oliver's rooms were better he wasn't naughty or original enough, but it was a disappointment, though to be honest I only remember the winners from the first two series, and it's gone downhill even more. Maybe people will remember Daniella due to all the controversy!

If it was a hidden advertisement for her future business enterprise with Kelly, I'll be deeply disappointed in the BBC.

Smallangryplanet · 20/01/2017 19:20

One Shock won obviously. Team Daniela.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/01/2017 19:47

Could it be these tiles?

Nodowntime · 20/01/2017 19:48

Smallangryplanet

It's not just how the rooms were lit (before and after), it was obvious monochrome filters, I was actually quite incredulous at that, like really? Producers, you have to be that tacky? Don't remember that in the previous series...maybe it's because they were too many rooms in these last series which were better before than after? there were plenty of pretty and cosy rooms which I had mixed feelings about after they had their design treatment.

littlemissneela · 20/01/2017 20:40

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius
Could it be these tiles?

Thank you! Those are ones I've found as well and saved. They do look very much like them.

ppeatfruit · 20/01/2017 20:47

Yes there were too many rooms in this series which looked better than after YES YES YES with or without specifically tricky lighting.

Cedilla · 20/01/2017 21:06

I wondered if they were these tiles littlemissneela. But maybe Oliver's had more depth of colour? Hard to say, but these do look as though they have the same slightly uneven edges.

ZaZathecat · 20/01/2017 21:27

Just caught up with the show. Oh that monstrous cabinet thing in Daniela's lounge! Am I mistaken or did she cover up a perfectly lovely fireplace with that? It's like being back in the 60s when I was a kid and everyone stuck hardboard over their panelled doors to make them nice and modern. And the paint-spattered bedroom floor and horrible kitchen. I didn't like what Oliver did either, except the kitchen which was nice but normal, but on balance he was better.

RTKangaMummy · 20/01/2017 21:31

She pulled out the fireplace hence why the floor was so awful cos it was different or damaged underneath where fireplace was

But she made white box smaller so you could still see damage!!!!!!!!

Cedilla · 20/01/2017 21:33

Daniela's website is up and running btw. Her ethos has always been to follow trends loosely, creating something everlasting with a passion for the visually emotional with atmospheric designs, but always injecting a touch of wit, humour, and storytelling within every design

She'll sell you the vagina wallpaper for a mere £50 per sq metre Grin

NormaSmuff · 20/01/2017 21:43

the before and after, they just Turned on the lights! so obvious
