Starts on Monday 2nd Jan @ 11am (new time) each day.

DH always says, "You can tell it is the new year when this deluded escapism is on!"

I for one will have it on series record. Anyone else joining me to escape to Oz each morning?

I find it amazing that people want to emigrate to a country they've never even visited before!

I know, they wax lyrical about it being their dream for years....they must be basing it all on Neighbours.

I remember one episode about a man wanting a better work/family balance and planning to be at the beach every day after work. He then visited an employer (who was a Brit expat) who shot him down immediately, telling him that he would be working long days and get to the beach a few times a year if he was lucky. The poor man was utterly devastated.

I just looked up the couple from a couple of years ago where the man had had a motorbike accident. They've had a baby! They were my favourite family so glad things have worked out for them.

MadisonAvenue · 09/01/2017 13:14

nannyj I've done that this morning too, probably because there was a similarity in the situation which brought them to mind. I could only remember his name, Stan, but found them.
Really really happy that things have worked out for them!

Lovely family today, loved reading their update in Facebook!

NancyDonahue · 09/01/2017 13:21

Oh that's lovely to hear. I remember now that when they did revisited it said they were expecting a baby.

ShakeofFara · 09/01/2017 16:53

Does anyone remember the totally unrealistic couple? They'd made bed from England to the Highlands to weave lentils and hug trees and thought a move to Australia would be possible with these skills? If I remember correctly he fixed computers but had no qualifications? They were shot down in flames during their visit.

Breward · 09/01/2017 18:12

Loved today's episode. So pleased for the family.

Shake yes! I remember them from a few years ago. Was there ever an update on them? I can't remember.

Vagndidit · 10/01/2017 11:22

Today's couple seem very easily pleased--at least with housing. A refreshing change from the picky moaners!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 10/01/2017 11:29

Ahh. According to my friend who failed in smuggling one back in for me Koalas smell like wine gums Smile

Oldraver · 10/01/2017 11:47

Which 'Wanted Down Under' Facebook page are you looking at ? The only one I can find is very bland, though seems 'official' but no updates

Oldraver · 10/01/2017 11:50

OOH found it, but wasn't the first one that came up

wideboy26 · 10/01/2017 12:50

I love that lilac dress on Nicki. Very flattering.

Oldraver · 10/01/2017 12:57

Nikki has some lovely frocks..

LarrytheCucumber · 10/01/2017 13:53

The Channel 5 programme is worth watching. Thank you to whoever mentioned it.

Heatherbell1978 · 10/01/2017 14:42

Really liked today's couple but I get annoyed at the cost comparisons. They're going to be £31k better off a year but isn't that because he's a student in the U.K. so doesn't work but will work when he gets to Oz. Presumably they should be comparing how much he could earn when working in the U.K. so it's like for like. I'm being pedantic but the programme has a tendency to make the move look a lot easier than it would be in real life!

kilmuir · 10/01/2017 14:50

Exactly what I thought. Of course they will be better off as he will be working!
I love to watch it, but do think it all seems like a holiday. Yes they went to beach and to the parks etc. But what about every day grind?

NancyDonahue · 10/01/2017 15:54

Today's couple were really funny and sweet. It was a nice change to see an older couple instead of a young couple or family. Shame that her job didn't seem to exist in Oz, I hope she finds something fulfilling to do. I hope they are very happy and manage some visits back to see mum.

Dowser · 11/01/2017 05:43

Watched the channel 5 programme last night..forgotten its name but they were building a gym.
Of course it didn't open on schedule so they had an extended holiday in oz meanwhile raiding their savings and paying a mortgage in uk cos house didn't sell.
Seemed a very badly thought out plan to me.
Didn't see how it ended though.

shakemysilliesout · 11/01/2017 07:06

I liked new life in oz on c5 last night. The dad had a plan but they were clearly used to having lots of cash and being generous so it was a big change. The mum seemed lovely but they needed a better plan for their nineteen yr old. He was always going to be bored and lonely without school or college to get mates, was he gonna get a job? He needed some casual work or something.

Heatherbell1978 · 11/01/2017 08:03

I liked the family too from C5 last night but they were a bit too flash with the cash when they got to Oz considering how risky his gym investment was. £800 a week for a holiday rental? That's a lot! Their long term rental looked pretty flash too. And with 4 teenage boys to feed, it's no wonder they were ploughing through the cash, it was a long holiday. Glad it worked out ok for them in the end. Hope the oldest lad settled eventually.

RebootYourEngine · 11/01/2017 10:35

I enjoy both programmes.

However the family in this weeks channel 5 programme were a bit too flashy for being unemployed.

What happened to the episode that was meant to be shown about the stay at home mum who moved to oz and was 'forced' to get a job.

Jonsnowsghost · 11/01/2017 10:38

I was surprised by the family on channel 5 last night, they didn't sound like they'd done much research! It's easy enough to have a quick search of house prices on the Internet instead of getting there and going..ooh these are quite expensive! Also the surprise at there being gyms everywhere, from what I know Australia is quite a sporty place so there are bound to be gyms!

Agree that the 19 year old should've had a better plan too.

Vagndidit · 11/01/2017 11:24

Anyone watching today? Cannot warm to this family at all.

Oldraver · 11/01/2017 11:28

I think they're just your average family who have got caught up working long hours to have a nice life, with time being the sacrifice

Vagndidit · 11/01/2017 11:29

Their issues don't stem from location, but rather their career choices.
