SURE JACK DRANK HIS SELF TO DEATH

whoops hit caps

NoisyBrain · 18/03/2017 15:05

I think maybe Jack's death has something to do with his lifestyle.

They've referred to how hard he works, plus in the most recent episode there was a lot of emphasis on eating the bacon cheeseburger and him drinking. I wouldn't be surprised if it's leading up to a heart attack Sad. While Rebecca is away on tour maybe.

IhatchedaSnorlax · 18/03/2017 20:10

That's what I thought was going to happen too Noisy hence thinking it was why Kate & her mum have 'issues' as there's nothing so far in the flashbacks to explain their strained relationship (at least that I can see).

IhatchedaSnorlax · 18/03/2017 20:11

Meaning she blamed her mum for not being there when her dad had a heart attack.

JaneEyre70 · 18/03/2017 20:22

I've just found this thread. Absolutely loving this show, I like the pace and it's a gentle drip feed. The minute I saw Ken Olin's name, I was hooked - 30something was just amazing. Mandy Moore is exquisite in this, and it's nice to have a positive likeable female lead. Just hoping as PPs have said about the scheduling on this that C4 carry it on. I watched a really good series on Lifetime (Sky) called The Girlfriends Guide to Divorce that was fab too, but season 2 and 3 haven't made it to the UK or the DVDs....gutting to find something good then lose it.

JaneEyre70 · 18/03/2017 20:24

Just read on Wikipedia that it has been renewed for another 2 seasons of 18 episodes each with NBC. Fingers crossed it gets to the UK too.

EsmesBees · 20/03/2017 15:39

I liked Kevin running to Randal's aid too, but think he could have told his understudy (or someone) what he was doing so his poor co-star wasn't left on an empty stage.

CurbsideProphet · 20/03/2017 19:57

I also feel like we're leading up to Jack's sudden death Sad I'm sad for Kevin, as I wanted his play to be a success.

HollyJollyDillydolly · 21/03/2017 08:11

I've watching it US time so I've seen all season 1 now. I'm glad there's going to be more seasons.

ArriettyClock1 · 21/03/2017 09:17

I've also watched all of season 1 and I think, cried through most of it!

Can't wait for season 2.

Destinysdaughter · 21/03/2017 23:31

Oh God, so sad but so beautifully done. SadFlowers

TheRealKimmySchmidt63 · 21/03/2017 23:42

Absolutely! Beautifully done indeed - think I missed what happened to William and Randall's mum though -

PinkDucks · 22/03/2017 07:28

I love this program! I'm not one to weep at TV programs but this had me balling last night. It didn't show you too much about Randall's mum. The last we saw was her and William about to take drugs at a party/gathering (assuming that was Randall's mum). Williams mum died just before that happened. Is next week the final ep in this series?

BubbleBed · 22/03/2017 14:13

Oh god. I sobbed. So beautifully done this programme. I want them to remember looking up at me, not down. And to come into the world with one person he loved, and leave with the other. Dear God. Need to tidy myself up now for the school run

oldwife · 22/03/2017 14:31

Oh wow.

What a weepie episode.

I love this show - but it turns me into a snivelling mess.

DispatchReady · 22/03/2017 15:58

Yep me too! Sad

HerculesMulligan · 22/03/2017 21:06

We've just watched it. I am totally bereft. Beautifully written and shot.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/03/2017 22:21

Seen but didn't cry

Usually anything sets me off as 39w preg

gincamelbak · 23/03/2017 14:27

Those last few minutes Sad I sobbed. I don't normally cry like that at TV programmes. But oh God, that was a tearjerker.

(I also don't like Toby and think Kate should leave him. He's needy and annoying.)

Whatslovegottodo · 23/03/2017 14:31

Another episode I sobbed at! It is rare anything on TV gets to me like this does. Love it!

youngestisapsycho · 23/03/2017 16:53

I've just watched and sobbed! And he called him Dad at the end....

gincamelbak · 23/03/2017 18:07

What I liked about this episode was how the bus trips that Randall's dad went on were revisited and fleshed out. In episode 1?2? It looked like he was just a bit of a flake and turned into an addict, but this episode it gave more context and history. My, it made it seem even more desperate.

But that episode with the slide to addiction was clever in how they showed him initially writing clearly in his notebook and eventually sprawling nonsense and incoherent marks.

It's so clever how the programme is written and details become important.

oldwife · 23/03/2017 18:24

William - Randall's dad - was how old?

His father went into the army when William was born - was this in the draft - 1969?

If so then William was only young when he died. Same age as me..

How many more episodes are there ?

Destinysdaughter · 23/03/2017 18:39

Yes I love how all the flashbacks add depth to how much more we understand about the characters in the present day. Love how this series has unfolded, it's so rare to see this and I find it makes it so rich and rewarding to watch as you really care about the characters. So unusual to see in a drama these days. So glad I gave this series a chance, it's so heartwarming.

gincamelbak · 23/03/2017 18:43

Randall, Kate and Kevin were all born in 1980. I think William was quite young then? Mid twenties at a push perhaps... so born mid 1950s. But then I thought it might have been during the second world war when he was born/his father died which would have made him v late 30s when Randall was born but he just didn't seem to be that old.
