FannyWincham · 22/11/2016 16:36

Further to the other GG thread, this thread is for discussion of the four feature-length episodes which will drop on Netflix on Friday 25 November.

The thread may contain spoilers both for the original seven series of GG AND for GG:AYITL.

OP posts:
EverySongbirdSays · 25/11/2016 21:00

I always felt in the main series that April was fine, and that it was Anna and not April that was the problem. The Anna storyline was ridiculous.

I felt it was a shame that April had only 2 scenes.

Biggest relief ever about Liz and TJ

WORST GILMORE CHARACTERS EVAH :

  1. ANNA 2) TJ 3) LIZ 4) SHERRY 5)TAYLOR

I know Taylor has comedic value, but why has nobody ever beaten him up?

HE'S SO ANNOYING!

EverySongbirdSays · 25/11/2016 21:01

Yes! Strop!

What was the letter?

WonderMike · 25/11/2016 21:04

Yes that letter thing was just dropped, wasn't it?

Was the musical because ASP wanted to get the actors she worked with on that other thing she did, in it?

I don't mind Taylor, I liked that he turned into Luke and said everything Luke wanted to about the laptop customers.

EverySongbirdSays · 25/11/2016 21:13

Another mystery : finances

It's undisclosed how much Lorelei and Roy got from Richard but she needs Luke's money to expand as Sookie has been "eating soil" for 2 years Confused and Lorelei hasn't replaced her so the Dragonfly has been losing money.

Rory has been selling articles as a freelance journo. Several good sites and publications mentioned BUT not enough work to make a months rent in Brooklyn yet her mother can subsidise her, to fly in and out of London all the time, and take a full time unpaid role?

Didn't add up.

Dozer · 25/11/2016 21:30

The row between lorelei and emily after Richard's funeral was very well acted and very sad.

Dozer · 25/11/2016 21:31

Sean Gunn who plays Kirk is looking great!

dingdongdigeridoo · 25/11/2016 21:38

Yes, with regards to finances I wondered how Luke could afford to pay for April's college. MIT is pricey.

Also, Rory was supposed to get a 250k trust fund. What happened to that? There's no way Richard wouldn't leave generous amounts to Rory and Lorelei too.

MrFMercury · 25/11/2016 21:44

I mostly enjoyed it and was in tears by the end. That's left side open for more surely?
I didn't entirely buy Rory shagging Logan or going out with the forgettable Paul. I assumed she'd finally remembered to brake up with him a long time before she got the text.
I loved the impromptu wedding, the DAR scene was genius and I quite enjoyed the life and death brigade. Jess looking through the window at Rory was the first thing to set me off in the last episode. He's the right guy for her and I was never Team Jess but he gets Rory, encourages her but expects her to be accountable for her own choices. I really expected they'd have a moment at the wedding and that would be the start of something. Considering the ending I can't see that happening now :(
I found the musical odd but I loved Michel being openly gay and them referencing the lack of diversity in Stars Hallow in the first town meeting. I'm still.working my way through Gilmore Guys and that's one of their pet hates. I thought of them when I saw a black character on the front row! Lane should have got more screen time I agree. I'm still not clear why or where sookie was and I never so Lorelei tell Michel the Dragonfly was expanding.
Kirk I just loved as much as ever :)

EverySongbirdSays · 25/11/2016 21:46

Yes Dozer

Don't get me wrong there was some stuff I liked.

The "speech" at the funeral

The discussion about Nantucket

When she rang her from the woods and talked about the pretzel Sad

Dozer · 25/11/2016 22:58

First therapy scene is good - lorelei's body language goes all adolescent at times around her mother.

Graphista · 25/11/2016 23:01

Oh the pretzel Sad that floored me!

Luke always had money that was referenced in the original series, he was left money by his dad plus the diner is very successful plus he never hardly spends it! Plus he is savvy on investments etc he advised lorelai on business and financial matters. Chances are as soon as he got his head round April being his daughter he'd have started saving for her future AND there's her mum too. I too never got the hatred for April, not the kids fault Anna was a complete cow though!

As for Rory being the best most amazing most intelligent girl ever, I always understood that was only in the eyes of those who loved Rory. The chiton headmaster, Paris initially, various uni professors, MITCHUM HUNTZBERGER certainly seemed to view her as highly intelligent and hard working but not exceptional.

Dozer · 25/11/2016 23:19

Mitchum was worse than Trump!

dairyfarmerswife · 25/11/2016 23:23

Just finished. Shock Steered clear of here due to spoilers. I had binge watched 1-6 all summer but spoilered myself with Google for them, didn't want to do it this time around. Assume the baby is Logan's, from the Life and Death brigade night. I was actually #teamlogan - i felt like he really wanted it to be Rory and was only with Odette for his father. But that's probably because I love Matt Czuchry. Blush

Will there be more??? Netflix calls it Season 1, so maybe?

MiddleClassProblem · 26/11/2016 00:04

Finished it all!

Luke's "hair" was a low 😂

Loved the last 4 words and the pretzel!

EverySongbirdSays · 26/11/2016 00:30

Yes the hair, you could literally see the colour change Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 26/11/2016 01:07

I don't remember seeing Jackson. Which bit was he? At the end of the Sookie cakes?

If they were getting married in the morning why was Emily in Nantucket?

That musical was annoyingly long.

EverySongbirdSays · 26/11/2016 01:15

He had a stall during the international food festival and had a brief exchange with Lorelei. No explanation as to where their children were.

I'm wondering if he did have scenes of him single parenting which they scrapped after they managed to get Melissa in for a scene.

EverySongbirdSays · 26/11/2016 01:18

It's not had to see Sookie taking a break from the Dragonfly, but a 2 year break from her kids?

They could have done more to create the illusion she was around. Just left - shouts from the kitchen - one way phone calls etc.

Tuktuktaker · 26/11/2016 08:00

Gosh, reading all this, I'm wondering if I shouldn't just stick with Winter, which I really loved! Hate the sound of the musical. EverySongbirdSays, well yes, exactly, Sookie wouldn't leave the children with only Jackson for so long, it sounds nuts.

PoldarksBreeches · 26/11/2016 08:30

The musical was shit but I enjoyed it on the whole. I still think there is scope for Rory and jess and I damn well hope they will make more to follow that ending!

Dozer · 26/11/2016 08:33

Agree, that wouldn't've made sense - from the scene in Fall I got the impression she travelled a lot but lived with them.

The mrs kim / koreans bit in Winter seemed stereotypical/xenophobic! Would far rather have seen mrs kim being with her grandsons or helping Lane.

Dontwant2behere · 26/11/2016 08:50

I thought Sookie, Jackson and the kids were together at some vegetable experimental retreat somewhere.

Sookie sounded so different, like crude bridesmaids Melissa, not Sookie at all.

I like the end, its gone full circle and I don't think Rory intends Login to be involved - that was the point of her meeting with Christopher.

Dozer · 26/11/2016 08:54

I liked that Rory's career hadn't worked out too well,

The "write an autobiographical book" plot device was in Little Women - wonder if Louisa May Alcott thought of it or whether it'd been done even before then! L M Montgomery used it in Anne of Green Gables series too.

Dozer · 26/11/2016 08:55

Surely the person whose reaction Rory needed to worry about was Emily!

Dozer · 26/11/2016 08:55

On the book I mean
