Last thread here.

All ready for tonight's episode Smile Glitterball

OP posts:
SapphireStrange · 03/10/2016 10:21

I'd bet anything that she offered to retire but they persuaded her to stay. I agree with this and think there was no element of 'poor me' but just a difficult truth expressed with clear pain and regret.

WheelofPan · 03/10/2016 10:24

Seems very unfair to make Melvin walk.

It isn't unlike a competitive sport where one person/team plead illness or injury and they are awarded the cup/points/whatever without having to compete at all.
Contrary to Natural Justice, imho

SapphireStrange · 03/10/2016 10:33

Anastacia didn't 'plead' injury. Hmm She WAS injured.

The rules of Strictly, as they said, are that in these cases the decision is made by public vote numbers.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 03/10/2016 10:45

I was trying to work out what it was she had done on the saturday when they broached the injury issue
Wondered if it was a neck thing as she seemed very tight...I had ruled out feet and back issue just because of the drop and fling through the legs and her foot work was't awful, and then her fabulous hip shimmy up with Claudia...never thought of the scar tissue, but surely that drop and fling move was a bad idea....arms fully up and over and under tension??

I think there might be a "to do" if she doesn't dance this week coming.

Having said that...as a PP said, pretty sure she is not finals material, and Melvin certainly wasn't so it'll all work out in the end.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2016 10:55

Anast. should have just pulled out of the contest, she's been ill for ages anyway, she too delicate for it.

I loved the opening Romeo and Juliet dance too , the female lead was danced by the new Russian blonde girl, Rokshyna (sp?) She is a very talented dancer (shame the hair makes her look a bit Barbie ish) Grin.

SoupDragon · 03/10/2016 10:59

I've rewatched it and she doesn't seem to be in any pain or favouring either arm/side - I wonder if she was under the influence of heavy duty pain killers for the performance and they wore off? The fling across the floor looks to be a push so I wonder if there was very little strain on her injured side. There also seeems to be very few occasions where any kind of strain is put on one side at a time.p so I think it was very carefully choreographed.

I don't doubt she was injured or think she played it up at the dance off stage.

LIZS · 03/10/2016 11:01

Takes Two might be interesting tonight.

Fiderer · 03/10/2016 11:01

Missed it but reading lots this morning, so:

She injured herself on Friday during rehearsals. Against doctor's orders she performed on Sat with a re-choreographed performance. That performance aggravated the injury so much so that she couldn't do the dance-off.

Setting aside the rule about injury & fewest public votes, how on earth is she going to continue?

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2016 11:05

Exactly Fiderer She seems a sensible woman, would she be under some pressure from the producers of SCD?

bibliomania · 03/10/2016 11:12

It all made for a fairly downbeat ending last night. I'm wincing at the thought of tears to a mastectomy scar. Still, I like Anastacia and I'm glad she's still in.

SoupDragon · 03/10/2016 11:19

It doesn't sound like the kind of injury that will heal in time to practise for next week.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 03/10/2016 11:21

I agree it sounds excruciating, but surely not something that will go away without extended rest and decinitely not a full week of intense physical activity!
The cynic in me wonders whether they found out what the result of the public vote was before instigating this 'rule.' Hmm

morningtoncrescent62 · 03/10/2016 11:31

Natalie and Scott's jive is still one of my favourites.

Yes, it's up there for me along with Mark and Karen's salsa, Zoe and Ian's showdance and of course the unforgettable Austin and Erin's paso.

She injured herself on Friday during rehearsals. Against doctor's orders she performed on Sat with a re-choreographed performance. That performance aggravated the injury so much so that she couldn't do the dance-off.

That's terrible - she should have been ordered not to perform on Saturday. At the end of the day it's only a TV show, and her health should come first. I hope she takes a break this week and then makes a sensible decision about whether or not to return, and tells the BBC to take a running jump if they try to make her perform against medical advice again.

Fiderer · 03/10/2016 11:35

More than likely to happen again, surely?

Fiderer · 03/10/2016 11:41

Can't believe the BBC would pressure her. Even if true, the shitstorm that's erupted after this would change their minds.

I imagine if you've been looking forward to something like this for ages, trained for the last 4 weeks, then you'd try not to drop out if you could battle though - re performance on Sat. She must be tough with what she's been through.

But now? She'd always be worried it'll happen again and the choreography will be compromised, surely? Dancey posters?

emotionsecho · 03/10/2016 11:45

If it had gone to a dance off I think Melvin should have gone, he just didn't perform well enough over the two weeks to stay but in view of the circumstances I think Anastacia should have gracefully withdrawn. The sham of no dance off and revert to the public vote when one party is carrying an injury that is unlikely to suddenly mend itself in time for the party to fully participate next week just doesn't seem right.

I also think that the boxer Anthony last season should have withdrawn or been withdrawn as it was just ridiculous allowing him onto the programme with such an injury.

I was weirdly pleased for Ed Balls that he is in for at least another week.

SoupDragon · 03/10/2016 11:52

I do think that the saving grace in this is that Melvin would probably have gone home anyway. If not this week, then next week! It's just a disappointment that he didn't get the chance to try and save himself.

SoupDragon · 03/10/2016 11:53

I love Ed. I loved him on Bake Off too. He seems like a really nice guy.

SapphireStrange · 03/10/2016 11:57

ppeat, Oksana is from Ukraine warning Sun link

I was a bit Hmm when they said she was teaching Judge Rinder some Russian phrases.

emotionsecho · 03/10/2016 12:01

Ed is certainly coming across much better than I thought he would. I didn't like the way the judges treated him last week and this, it was uncalled for there have been a lot worse contestants than him who have had a much easier ride. I also want to see more of what his partner Katya can do!

I'm hoping next week Movie Theme doesn't have too many really daft costumes - the nightmare of Brendan and Kirsty dressed as dogs, Peter Andre as Captain Pugwash - NO, please NO!

Fiderer · 03/10/2016 12:11

Agree about the daft costumes.

Anyone else think the sets are much more lavish/garish/OTT this year?

GrouchyKiwi · 03/10/2016 12:51

Maybe if Anastacia has a ballroom - like the waltz - it won't be so bad for her scars? And Brendan could then choreograph and simple, classic waltz and that would make Grumpy Len happy. Do we know what she's supposed to dance this week?

I think it's a difficult situation for the producers and how they dealt with it was fair enough. Melvin was certainly the weakest dancer.

Agree about how over-the-top everything has become. I'd like them all to tone it down about 12 notches.

englishmummyinwales · 03/10/2016 13:13

I think the producers were put on the spot and had to decide quickly what should happen. They would have known that Melvin came last in the public vote and I suspect they may have acted differently if it had been Anastacia at the bottom. With the benefit of hindsight (and not having any responsibility for the matter!), I think there should have been a bye with both contestants put through. Then either Anastacia might withdraw through injury at a future point or they could have had a double elimination one week to get back to the right number of dancers.

raisedbyguineapigs · 03/10/2016 13:26

I agree. The only thing that has happened is that the judges haven't had the final decision. If Melvin had the fewest votes and was the lowest on the Leaderboard out of the two of them, then it was fair enough that he went. It probably would have been nice to let them both carry on. It always seems a bit soon to go for anyone after such a lot of practice, but Im probably too soft never been said before

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2016 13:36

grouchy The waltz is more 'top half of the body' though isn't it? With the 'hold' being very wide arms ;not the best dance for Anast. IMO.

I noticed that Lesley had lovely feet in her waltz but had to stretch too high to partner Anton. Her shoulders were letting her down.
