Although I'm old enough to remember it first time round, I've just ploughed my way through all five series on sky box sets. I'd forgotten how good it was, I'm looking forward to watching the new series when it starts again in the autumn.

In RL could easily be dismissed for talking to her boss like that, or her redunancy payout reduced (it was well above the legal minimum)

MargotLovedTom · 05/10/2016 09:33

Ah, I get you.

Squeegle · 05/10/2016 14:07

I don't think In real life you would be so insulting to your boss until you had all signed the papers and everything was sorted (including the not taking clients with her clause!). Mind you, as we've said its not that realistic. In real life publishers have authors not "clients" .

APlaceOnTheCouch · 05/10/2016 15:11

I'm still enjoying it. I find Robert Webb quite annoying, so I guiltily enjoyed him getting punched in the face. Blush
Sad that Art Malik is already being shown to have controlling tendencies. I wanted my fantasy of 'a handsome, sophisticated man who isn't an arse' to last for a while longer . . .

The80sweregreat · 06/10/2016 18:54

Was Grant played by Robert Webb before? I wasnt really a fan in the 90s or whenever it was on, was aware of it and saw the pilot. I am a fan now though ( had to do a bit of background reading on wiki)
Karen never smiles does she? Have a feeling Eddie will be a baddie, is he behind the David situation i wonder? He is controling. I still like Pete. Jen is too OTT for me.

shins · 06/10/2016 20:05

No, Jen's NY adventure was off camera if I recall.

I don't get the Jen hate, I really like her! Karen is a miserable sod. She and Eddie are unlikely; a billionaire like him is going to go for some glamorous type half his age, not a 50 year old divorced mother whose range goes from bitter to sardonic!

purpleme12 · 06/10/2016 20:28

I didn't like Jen when it was first on but this time round I like her. And yes I do think Karen is more miserable than I remember her being.... don't know if i'm mistaken on that

The80sweregreat · 06/10/2016 20:28

Shins, nail on head, a billionaire like him would be after a super model type several decades younger! Karen is sophisicated, but she is getting on, bless her. And has baggage.
Still, its one of the better programes on just now.

purpleme12 · 06/10/2016 20:40

i'm really enjoying it, much better than I thought it would be

shins · 06/10/2016 21:49

The80s yes think of Bernie Ecclestone-when his mother in law was kidnapped it turned out she was 30 years younger than him! Confused.

Wish it wasn't so but it is (I'm only 6 years younger thaan Karen before I get accused of ageism)

Unicorn1981 · 06/10/2016 22:06

I can't take Robert Webb seriously either. I think Karen's only sneery because David's there all the time.

IhatchedaSnorlax · 06/10/2016 22:28

I'm still loving it!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 06/10/2016 22:28

I always think of Karen as capable and long-suffering. Jenny was always annoying. I couldn't decide if I admired the writers for penning an annoying character or if they thought she was likeable.

southeastdweller · 06/10/2016 22:28

Robert Webb is miscast in this show. He played a similar character again and again in other things but he doesn't fit in here.

SaturdaySurprise · 07/10/2016 07:41

I think Robert Bathurst is a brilliant actor. David is such a mix - private school confident, immoral, insecure, smart and stupid.

BabyGanoush · 07/10/2016 07:48

Yes, David is quite a good character.

The whole I'm-your-daddy stuff was silly nonsense straight out of Eastenders Hmm

They have lost the humour and wut that made the series good in the first place, and have gone all soap opera.

It's almost embarrassing Blush

APlaceOnTheCouch · 07/10/2016 07:52

I couldn't decide if the 'I'm your daddy' scene was just wrong or if it didn't work because of Robert Webb. He was playing it like Peep Show which is much more ott and obvious comedy. Cold Feet is usually more subtle than that.

Trills · 07/10/2016 08:09

a billionaire like him would be after a super model type several decades younger

I prefer a more optimistic view of humanity.

He does not want to date someone younger than his daughter.

rollonthesummer · 07/10/2016 10:55

Have only just caught up. Do we think that Pete will take the money after all now he's read Harry's letter?!

Dozer · 07/10/2016 11:27

yeah, no reason at all why a rich man wouldn't fancy Karen, and she IS younger than him!

GrumpyOldBag · 07/10/2016 12:12

Agree with Dozer.

He's attracted to Karen's brain as well, and she's pretty fit for a 50-year-old.

he's not a footballer FFS!

polyhymnia · 07/10/2016 12:19

I dislike Jen because she seems very stupid and I'm afraid I don't find that an appealing quality.

southeastdweller · 07/10/2016 12:28

Karen is gorgeous, intelligent, sane, and solvent so a pretty good catch all in all.

The80sweregreat · 07/10/2016 13:36

Sorry, i am just a bit anti men just now. Too many friends in real life having problems with husbands, ex's , boyfriends ( one who is 67 thinking he is 20!) soon to be exs. Its been a poor summer for my mates this year.
I have enjoyed this series but maybe i need to watch some of the older ones.

Dozer · 07/10/2016 13:51

Sorry to hear that the80sweregreat.

If feeling like that, the old series, especially the later ones, might not be quite right for you at present! Quite dark about relationships!
