Although I'm old enough to remember it first time round, I've just ploughed my way through all five series on sky box sets. I'd forgotten how good it was, I'm looking forward to watching the new series when it starts again in the autumn.

Didn't Jen have a thing for Adam at some point in the original series? I am finding her quite annoying but I can't quite figure out why. I disliked her character for the same non-reason in the original series!

Gwenhwyfar · 07/10/2016 22:20

"I dislike Jen because she seems very stupid and I'm afraid I don't find that an appealing quality."

In what way does she seem "very stupid"?

Trills · 07/10/2016 23:02

I don't think she seems stupid

AmeliaPeabody · 08/10/2016 00:21

I don't think Jen is stupid (remembering past series) just very irritating. Karen is great, and saves the current series for me. I really don't know what I'd make of this if I hadn't seen the earlier series. Nostalgia keeps me watching I think.

shins · 08/10/2016 07:16

Jen is working class and funny and blunt which is why I warm to her rather than the icy tasteful-scarfed uptight Karen. And Rachel - god I don't miss her!

Gwenhwyfar · 08/10/2016 07:44

"Jen is working class and funny and blunt"

I think she's lower-middle class actually, but I see what you mean. When I was watching the first series I remember thinking it was highly unlikely that Jen and Pete would be friends with David in particular, Karen less so. In that couple, it's David who's the real snob. If you remember back to one of the first series, he was horrified at Pete going out with his nanny (mixing "upstairs and downstairs") and then there was the work ball that Jen and Pete came to and Jen ended up having a fight with David's boss.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 08/10/2016 07:54

I don't mind Jenny being annoying and selfish because people are annoying and selfish in RL.
But I hated Rachel with a passion. Tbh I hated the actress who played her even when she was in Friends.

AmeliaPeabody · 08/10/2016 08:18

I can't say I miss Rachel either!

KathyBeale · 08/10/2016 08:27

They were brought together by Adam and Rachel. Adam was Pete's best friend and Rachel was Karen's. I think it makes sense that they'd have all clung together after Rachel died to support Adam and Matthew, even though they are all really different.

Middleoftheroad · 08/10/2016 08:34

I don't find Jen endearing in any way. Just annoying, but less so in the current series than the original. Karen is my favourite, wasn't bothered by Rachel either way.

Re-watching the old ones and really enjoying them.

Millimat · 08/10/2016 08:41

I certainly don't miss Rachel - found Helen Baxendale very wooden (& even more so in friends). I don't get the Jen hate- I think she's great!

Gwenhwyfar · 08/10/2016 09:03

"I don't mind Jenny being annoying and selfish"

Is she selfish? I think she's quite normal.

Yes, Kathy, I know how the friends where brought together, but I still don't really buy it.

IhatchedaSnorlax · 08/10/2016 09:04

I love them all!

southeastdweller · 08/10/2016 10:18

Jen is the least likeable to me, very self-absorbed.

AndYourBirdCanSing · 08/10/2016 10:32

I am absolutely loving having it back- I love all the main characters and think it's better for not having Rachel.

How many are left of this series?

Dozer, thank you. Heard too many harrowing stories this summer. Really awful. Karen is very well dressed i must admit and i want her figure.

honeyroar · 08/10/2016 12:20

I like Jen too, I find her funny. And I live in the Manchester area and have a friend with exactly the same accent (it's an annoying accent, but it's real!).

Adam needs a slap, he's horribly full of himself, and David would drive me crazy very quickly .

There are a lot of flaky and unrealistic plots (father not mentioning his daughter and Adam splitting up most of all). I'm enjoying it overall though, so is my husband, we're laughing a lot at it.

Squeegle · 08/10/2016 15:23

I like Jen, she makes me laugh - Karen is a bit too cool (but what about that silly angel wings jumper?), and Angela isn't very realistic. Adam, yes taking himself ridiculously seriously. Pete is great, and David silly but vulnerable (and self seeking) But still loving it, it's just a bit of fun after all!

Dozer · 08/10/2016 18:04

There was a great episode early on where Jen got hammered at a corporate do, had a row with David's American woman boss and - can't quite remember - there was an incident with a fire extinguisher?

Gwenhwyfar · 08/10/2016 19:33

"There was a great episode early on where Jen got hammered at a corporate do, had a row with David's American woman boss and - can't quite remember - there was an incident with a fire extinguisher?"

Yes, I mentioned it earlier in the thread. Jen did something to David's boss's dress.

Arcadia · 10/10/2016 21:21

Anyone watching? Feels like they are trying to cram too many story lines in but has definitely got better!

Arcadia · 10/10/2016 21:22

Adam is so going to end up with that woman

shins · 10/10/2016 21:25

Eddie so set up that job interview for Karen.
