Although I'm old enough to remember it first time round, I've just ploughed my way through all five series on sky box sets. I'd forgotten how good it was, I'm looking forward to watching the new series when it starts again in the autumn.

Brilliantly played by robert bathurst. His new wife's feelings towards him are understandable!

Squeegle · 14/09/2016 17:49

It's hard to imagine how he would have done so well at work and made so much money.

diddl · 14/09/2016 17:54

"It's hard to imagine how he would have done so well at work and made so much money."

Because he's a tight arsed scheming bastard pretending to be a bit daft?

Squeegle · 14/09/2016 17:58

Ah! Do you think that's it? He is a nasty hard bastard underneath?

diddl · 14/09/2016 19:05

Well he might not be a nasty bastard, but he's obviously not the "bumbling fool" he shows himself to be to his friends.

Lilaclily · 14/09/2016 19:21

I loved him in the earlier series, when he was really sweet with Rachel at the wedding, giving her away etc
And when he took them all to the castle and we saw what his childhood was like

Tiggeryoubastard · 14/09/2016 19:56

He's very insecure I think. So pleased to be best man, so happy to be included. I think he's brilliantly written and portrayed. Possibly the deepest, best character really.

Lupinlady5 · 14/09/2016 20:07

Hear hear, Tigger. He's definitely the best character. So much depth

MargotLovedTom · 14/09/2016 22:25

That smile he did when Adam said Pete could best man after all was so poignant - he was so disappointed but trying to hide it.

I think I should rewatched the whole lot because I can't remember David talking about his childhood in a castle Confused.

Thanks sunnymeg for the explanation up there.

diddl · 15/09/2016 08:37

He is very well played, isn't he?

There's something (imo) about him not quite fitting in that keeps you feeling sorry for him.

DadOnIce · 15/09/2016 10:01

"Oh, David!" That mixture of annoyance and disappointment - I can hear it now!

She seems to play the same character in everything. She was a spy version of Karen in Spooks, and a space version of Karen in Dr Who and also in Outcasts.

Me and dh are watching the earlier series on ITV hub and we've just watched that episode. The 6 of them spend the Millennium on a remote island. Adam and Pete get stuck out at sea, very very funny episode.

PseudoBadger · 15/09/2016 10:21

Holy island isn't it?

myfriendnigel · 16/09/2016 19:00

Just watched the second episode.sobbing again! What is the matter with me? It's not even that good really.
Poor Pete.
I wish I was as cool as Karen.if I opened a door to find my teenage daughter shagging my close friends teenage son I fear my initial response would be slightly stronger than to say 'oh Jesus' and walk off.Grin

yumyumlama · 16/09/2016 19:12

You can buy and download on itv player too. Just luxuriating in the pilot then series 1 this week! I was in a bad place when these came out so didn't watch - now much happier so can and loving it!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2016 22:40

They spend Nye 1999 on the island /castle that David rem from
Childhood

It's nice Karen has a sexy rich man after her. Makes DAVID reliese what he lost. New wife isn't happy with him

Sure the driving points will come out

Glad ADAM reliesed pete was depressed

Jennie was being a bit of a prick tease. She flirts with the man who so obviously wasn't an undercover cop yet when he kisses her she flips

Tho she shouldn't have been flirting. As usual she's being unfaithful

I did wonder about 16 twin sleeping with Matthew

I thought the old man would die at football so die happy

Old mans daughter Def wasn't jen

Nice ADAM wife said she would stay in U.K.

Jungfraujoch · 17/09/2016 23:22

Just caught up with the first two episodes and loved it! Just the same as before, love all the characters, loved the the Rachel references and poor Pete - I was in tears. 😢

Squeegle · 18/09/2016 10:22

I can't find the earlier (old) episodes on ITV hub, is there a different place to find them?

southeastdweller · 18/09/2016 10:58

Try iTunes.

polyhymnia · 18/09/2016 13:19

Never saw the original so finding it harder to warm to any of the characters. On what we've seen in this last episode Jenny seems a not very likeable (and certainly not well dressed!) character but perhaps we are supposed to think she's down to earth??
How did the posher D and K get friendly with the other four?

Lottielou272 · 18/09/2016 13:53

Jenny was always presented as someone who put her foot in it and is a bit insensitive.

triangularchocolate · 18/09/2016 13:54

Karen and Rachel were best mates, Rachel hooked up with Adam who is best mates with Pete.

I am watching and quite enjoying it, but falls down massively for me when we're supposed to believe James Nesbitt is a heart throb Confused

Lottielou272 · 18/09/2016 13:55

David and Karen were originally friends of Rachel, Adam's first wife who died (Matt's mother) and Adam and Pete got to know them that way.

polyhymnia · 18/09/2016 17:37

Ah, thanks that explains how D and K fit in.
Re Jenny, she also seems not very bright, but didn't she have some glamorous job in New York in the earlier series? Or am I confused?

Tiggeryoubastard · 18/09/2016 18:03

Jenny used to wind me up because she always sounded drunk. She seemed quite lazy and not too bright, so I think that's why. It's not as bad now, thankfully.
