New thread to discuss both the TV series of Outlander and the books by Diana Gabaldon. Discussion of spoilers allowed, if not positively encouraged.Smile

Well I have now finished all the books in the series and I thought that apart from the first two books in the main they rambled and became repetitive in their plot lines.

However I do think there was an opportunity missed with the ending to book 7 and the start of book 8 with Roger and Buck. It could have been explored more and developed in a different direction.

pixieg1rl · 16/08/2016 21:38

I see from Twitter that DG has published a book on how she writes sex scenes. Not sure it specifically covers her strange ideas about consent and coercion

Lessstressedhemum · 16/08/2016 21:46

A book on how she writes sex scenes????? Fit her better to finish book 9.

Lessstressedhemum · 17/08/2016 09:21

Good grief!

gamerwidow · 17/08/2016 20:43

Surprised so many on the thread didn't enjoy the books. I loved them I think the characterisation is so well done.

Lessstressedhemum · 18/08/2016 08:33

I love the books, gamer, I just think that some of the storyline s are hilarious.
I do think that the editors need to be a bit firmer with DG, though. Some of the stuff just needs to be cut and she needs reined in a little. Other than that, no other books get under my skin the way Outlander books do, nothing else has that sort of soul satisfying thing going on for me, saddo that I am.

Snozzlemaid · 18/08/2016 16:28

Just seen some pics on instagram of SH, CB & TM at the Outlander studio in Glasgow. Must be due to start filming season 3 soon.
Also seen some photos from the first day of script read through for series 3 of Poldark. Thank god we've got series 2 of that starting soon. I need some sort of costume drama to watch where I can fall in love with the male character.
I'm enjoying the books but need to watch something too.

gamerwidow · 18/08/2016 17:11

Lessstressedmum agreed some of the plotlines are daft or completely irrelevant. She does like a random sequester which ends up being irrelevant. Smile I do like reading about the little details of J and Cs home life though. I could read about them pottering about the farm together all day.

Snozzlemaid · 18/08/2016 17:32

I agree. I don't really care if there's no real storyline if it's just Jamie and Claire. Love reading about all their interactions.

Drywhitethanks · 18/08/2016 18:50

Snozzle you have made me so happy. Is it possible to link pics from Instagram?

snozzlemaid · 18/08/2016 18:57

I'll have a go. They're not great pics though. And not in costume. So don't get too excited. Grin

Snozzlemaid · 18/08/2016 19:01

Oh lovely Snozzle. Is there a date for Poldark 2 airing?

Although I think the Outlander books waffle a bit and are a bit farfetched I'm enjoying having them ticking along in the background of my life......

Drywhitethanks · 18/08/2016 19:34

Im lost so surprised they're filming S3 already....didn't have long off did they? The writers don't hang about do they?

snozzlemaid · 18/08/2016 19:34

4th September at 9pm - if you're in UK that is.

snozzlemaid · 21/08/2016 10:00

snozzlemaid · 21/08/2016 11:06

I can't cope. Ther's too much going on from the cast and DG on twitter.
Caitriona's response to Sam's picture...

Drywhitethanks · 21/08/2016 20:21

Brilliant Snozzle keep them coming.
Do you think the new season will be filmed in Scotland or wil they eventually move to other countries ?
I knew they'd do the reunion early on.......or maybe not.

The books are addictive aren't they? A total guilty pleasure. You know they're drivell but just can't stop! Every time I finish one I read another book that's won some prize or something really quickly to justify continuing Grin
So excited to see R Rankin.

gamerwidow · 22/08/2016 07:23

So addictive I read all of the big novels in a 3 month binge and now I'm reading the Lord John grey books and associated novellas. I'll be really sad when I run out of books. Currently up to the Scottish Prisoner which is told 50/50 from Jamie and Lord John's perspective. Reminds me how much I miss Jamie in the other short stories.

snozzlemaid · 22/08/2016 08:05

I'm reading book 7 at the moment and can't wait to finsh them so I can read the LJG books to get more of Jamie's story.
It'll be some time before I read anything written by anyone other than DG.
