But who actually wears the Less?

Really loving DoA. Lord John is really lovely isn't he?
Find the Willie and J thing really sweet too.

Lessstressedhemum · 04/08/2016 09:01

Someone, somewhere must wear them, surely? America is probably hoaching with folk in weird, stalkery Outlander t-shirtsGrin

The Willie and Jamie thing is lovely. It's heart wrenching. Lord John doesn't really do it for me but he is a good, kind man.

Middleoftheroad · 04/08/2016 14:58

Hello! I've finally caught up on the TV series so am passing through the non spoiler thread to this.

Watched s2 finale yesterday so still pondering....

Can I also ask who the highlander that appears to Frank in S1 1948 was? Assumed it was Jamie but how could it be?sorry, but my slow brain cannot process this probably obvious link. Blush

Every hello!

EverySongbirdSays · 04/08/2016 16:19

Hello middle fancy seeing you here!

I also needed a GOT replacement.

I think 1948 WAS Jamie but that "bit" hasn't happened yet. I'm not quite through S2 yet, I'm on to the bit were Jamie has challenged Randall to a duel and Murtagh knows she's a time traveller.

EverySongbirdSays · 04/08/2016 16:24

I didn't know there was a no spoiler thread.

I'm moving onto books shortly, I wouldn't normally do it that way round but I found myself distrustful about whether DG was a "good" prose writer without really having any basis for that concern, can't really explain.

snozzlemaid · 04/08/2016 17:00

Middleoftheroad It hasn't been revealed who the highlander ghost is. DG had said that will be revealed in the last book.
I've always thought it must be Jamie, but I've no idea how.

gamerwidow · 04/08/2016 17:06

Half way through the Lord John books now and his fast becoming a firm favourite of mine. I like the way the books pad out some of the gaps in the 20 years C&J were apart and gives you the back story for the later books in the main series.

Drywhitethanks · 04/08/2016 18:45

Lassies I'm off tomorrow for a couple of weeks holiday with no wifi. Taking DoA with me 56% through, may have finished it before I get home, definitely filling the Outlander void please stay here, I look forward to catching up.

Lessstressedhemum · 04/08/2016 19:11

Have a lovely holiday, dry. I imagine we will still be here when you back.

Middleoftheroad · 04/08/2016 23:39

Thanks for the hearty welcome ladies!

Cheers for the lowdown snozzle
Hope he has gone looking for her at some point too.

Every think Outlander saved me from serious GoT withrawal. I found a no spoilers thread, but then realised I'm so impatient that I always have to know. Your GoT knowledge filled in loads gaps for me WinkWant to read Outlander books but stll chugging through GoT books.

Lessstressedhemum · 05/08/2016 07:59

Ooh, Middle, keep going with Ice and Fire. I've been reading them since they came out as well. They are much more in line with my usual reading material and they are brilliant! (I think Outlander is the only Romans series I have ever read. It might well be the only romance full stop apart from classics stuff like Wuthering Heights and Tess).
Am not so patiently awaiting the new one and wish GRRM would just crack on with it. I've only seen a couple of series of the TV show, though.

Drywhitethanks · 05/08/2016 14:33

The shame Blushjust had to unlock my case at the front of the checkin queue, and DS's too.....over our luggage allowance despite efforts at home! Lots of shoes in family hand luggage now!
Going to have a Wine in departures

EverySongbirdSays · 09/08/2016 02:39

I seldom think I've wanted an eisode of Television more than I want Season 3 Episode 1.

The distinction with GOT is I'd read them so the anticipation wasn't killing me and with this last series they outran the books so the so the frustration that the story already "existed" wasn't there.

Onward then to the books. I'm DYING for her reunion not just with Jamie but Fergus too.

Lessstressedhemum · 09/08/2016 11:43

I haven't seen very much of GoT, but am v. annoyed that the series has overtaken the books. Like everyone else, i have all my wee pet theories and I want THE BOOK to tell me if I am right. I am purposely avoiding the programme. I wish GRRM would just get on with it and stop shilly-shallying about.
I can hardly wait for S3 of Outlander, just to see how they handle it, apart from anything else. I hope that there is a good focus on Jamie's life in the 20 years since Culloden.
In my quest to fill the gap, am now rereading Echo in the Bone and am at the bit where Ian Mor has just died of the consumptionSad it's so sad that I can almost feel sorry for Jenny, who has yet to redeem herself at all.

Lessstressedhemum · 10/08/2016 11:53

Every time I reread the books, I find wee bits I didn't pick up on before! It's all sad, just now because Claire and John think Jamie is deadSad He isn't, though. They are being super kind to one another, John is quite sweet really.

EverySongbirdSays · 10/08/2016 22:41

I've not read the books yet but can't complain about the titbits as the title does say, and spoiler whinging drove me mad over on GOT were it was repeatedly made clear, thinking of stealing the OP here for the next thread whenever that comes. Starting Book 1 tonight.

Yes I know exactly what you mean RE GOT. There are certain things... a very emotional death, and the resolution to the "equation theory" that I'd far rather have read. I mean that theory has been in play since the 90s.

GRRM will fuck about though and then get all pissy at his own fans instead of being amazed, blessed and thilled that there is such buzz around his books, like many authors or aspiring authors can only dream of Hmm talk about forgetting who put you there Hmm

Lessstressedhemum · 10/08/2016 22:54

George Martin really annoys me. He forgets that without his readers he would be just another would be author. He gets all het up and defensive, but if he wasn't writing short stories and getting inveigled with TV, he would get on better. I've been reading GoT since the beginning and even I am getting fed up with the huge gap between books, me, who has read through WoT, Sword of Truth and so many other huge fantasy sagas that I've lost count. I think that he is just a vain man who thinks that he can play with his fanbase.

I hope you enjoy Cross Stitch. It will be the start of a beautiful relationship.

EverySongbirdSays · 10/08/2016 23:04

I think the first book is just called "Outlander" now, they've re-done it to "tie-in"

My friend had a theory that he's burned himself out and that he was waiting to see where the show went for pointers. Also, he had to get Elio Garcia from Westeros to help him do the Encyclopaedia as he literally can't remember some of his own canon. Sad

Lessstressedhemum · 11/08/2016 09:20

The world is so huge and he has so many plot threads goi g on, it's little wonder. He has kind of dug a hole for himself, really. It's a bit like Robert Jordan - the last WoT book turned into 3 books because Brandon Sanderson couldn't tie everything together in just one. I hope we do eventually get the next Ice and Fire book, I need to know what happens to John.

TV tie ins, baaaaahhhh!

Drywhitethanks · 12/08/2016 07:17

MNV....hello friends, I'm on shore. Found a tiny bit of wifi and just popping on to say I'm doing my best to wear everything I brought could have brought more Blush first formal night was fantastic! My R Minkoff tan clutch has been used almost every night. Gold Gigi's also on every day. Should have left SS.
See you soon ...will skim thread. Love to all

Drywhitethanks · 12/08/2016 07:19

Damn ...wrong thread!
Loved DoA , onto Fiery cross....DG obsessed with dirty nappies, periods and breast feeding!

Lessstressedhemum · 12/08/2016 10:05

Glad your having a good holiday, dryGrin What are these female embellishments of which you speak? Surely you only need wrist warmers, a shift and an earisaid?
DG has a lot of obsessions, at least Claire appears to be going through the menopause IN TFC, even if she does seem to be having an easy time of it. In Hearts Blood there is !much talk of her very fine bosom and of her seducing folk. She's past 60 and clearly immortal!

Drywhitethanks · 12/08/2016 13:44

Less how come Claire doesn't get pregnant again? All that honking. Tansy oil or vinegar soaked sponge isn't that reliable!
V sad to loose Young Ian, hope to see him again.
Roger is great. Quite like Jamie as grumpy father in law.
Righto, off to no wifi zone again Lassies.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 12/08/2016 15:45

Delurking to ask your opinions. I read Crossfire and LOVED it!! Was really enthused at having a new series to read. Got halfway through Dragonfly and was fed up with how ridiculous it all was and abandoned it. Have now watched both series and went back and finished the book. I love TV Jamie even more than book Jamie. My question: Shall I read Voyager? Will it put me off again? Or should I just watch and enjoy the knee porn the TV series?

Lessstressedhemum · 12/08/2016 18:43

Read it, Ramsay, It's ridiculous but fantastic at the same time. Lots of Jamie and lots of emotion.
Dry, I don't know. She deliberately didn't get sterilised before she went in case Jamie wanted more children but he doesn't because he can't risk losing her. I think I remember her taking some pills, but not enough to last any length of time. It comes up a few times, but she depends on a combination of her age and dauco seeds to prevent pregnancy. Young Ian comes back under sad circumstances after a couple of years away.
