Just saw the trailer for a new series of this - can't wait! Smile

Forgot Katherine Kelly!

And Sally Lindsay who used to be a barmaid in Corrie was one of the co-creators of Scott & Bailey.

But on the whole most soap stars don't make the splash that these few have.

bornwithaplasticspoon · 16/03/2016 10:40

Anna Friel, Brookside, has had an amazing career. More on stage and film than TV.

squoosh · 16/03/2016 10:43

Anna Friel's career started promisingly but it's kind of fallen by the wayside.

squoosh · 16/03/2016 10:44

Few male success stories funnily enough!

MarthasHarbour · 16/03/2016 10:46

I also think the other fiancee's will surface somehow in S3, i wondered if one of them was going to attempt to kidnap Ryan (although he cant go through that again surely). I noticed that one of the fiancee's had an Eastern European surname - i wondered if the people trafficking was connected

DH and i loved this, i was scared to watch it after the harrowing scenes in S1 but i agree that the more subtle approach was by far more effective.

Loved how Anne had them all sussed from the beginning - i was shouting at the TV 'listen to her'!!!!!

The letter from Ryan has well and truly set up S3.

I just loved it.

I'm not reading any of the above Grin Still haven't seen it, but just wanted to ask, is this series particularly disturbing? I really want to watch it. It look brilliant, but am embarrassingly sensitive, so tend to avoid anything that looks too dark. So, with that in mind, suitable for me? Grin

squoosh · 16/03/2016 11:08

There aren't too many horrifying sights. Most of the violence is implied.

nearlyovertherainbow · 16/03/2016 11:35

Ah ok. Very specific, but no rape? Confused I can't watch anything like that, even implications I find upsetting. I know rape is discussed, as I know the basic plot, but was hoping they'd be no horrible flash backs or anything. I know I sound ridiculous!

squoosh · 16/03/2016 11:42

You don't sound at all ridiculous! But there aren't any rape scenes in this series.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/03/2016 11:45

I loved this series so much - Sarah Lancashire is one of my favourite actresses (and I agree, it would be amazing to have her here for a webchat - please, MNHQ). I didn't watch the first series - but I've just ordered it on DVD - and I'm looking forward to binge-watching it!

I was really surprised last night when someone on my FB mentioned Kevin Doyle's appearances in Downton - I genuinely hadn't remembered. I am hoping that this is a tribute to his excellent acting, and to the writing of this series, not an indication of mental decrepitude on my part! Grin

FarrowandBallAche · 16/03/2016 12:06

I'm going to watch it again tonight with DH as he was out last night. I was itching to tell him all about it when he got back but he banned any discussion!

fussychica · 16/03/2016 13:29

Brilliant acting all round but I think I'd top myself if I had Catherine's life!

I must say I think the significance of being told about the abuse leading to the birth of the son is that C is now thinking that Ryan may not actually be TLR's and the reason her daughter committed suicide is that she had given birth to her fathers child. Made me shiver when I thought about it and saw C's face as she watched Ryan. Maybe I'm wrong.

diddl · 16/03/2016 13:37

Has it been hinted at that Becky was being abused by her father?

FarrowandBallAche · 16/03/2016 14:09

Fussychica I wasn't sure what Catherine's stare meant. I read into it that something was dawning on her, some terrible realisation.

But then I do tend to overthink things and it could be ( like others have suggested ) that she was thinking about what the future holds with Ryan and his father.

squoosh · 16/03/2016 14:14

Yes that's what I took from it. Not that her daughter was abused by her father but that she was looking at her grandson and feeling conflicted by her love for him and her hatred for his father. And there may have been a worry that her love for him might diminish the older and more like his father he got.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/03/2016 14:18

I think the long stare was Catherine making connections between Daryl's and Ryan - if Daryl had gone bad because he'd been fathered by an evil man, what did that mean for Ryan, whose father is also a very evil man.

BertrandRussell · 16/03/2016 14:26

It was a bit spoiled for me by Ryan's letter getting through. I'm pretty sure there is no way that would happen. Particularly after that.

absolutelynotfabulous · 16/03/2016 15:00

I'm surprised any of the letters got through, but there were several, weren't there? They'd all been opened, I think.

I too was wondering if Becky had been abused by her dad. But I've been imagining all sorts of things. And Catherine slept with him in the last series. I'm still not sure if Ryan is actually TLR's son anyway. Perhaps Catherine isn't so sure either, hence the long stare. I dunno. It's easy to overthink this programme, because there are so many layers.

I'm a bit bemused at how Frances/Cecily got the job at the school. Presumably a DBS check would throw up the fact that the applicant was deceased?Hmm

FlyRussianUnicorn · 16/03/2016 15:10

What pisses me off about the letter is the fact it was opened, they know who "Granny" mentioned in the letter was and did nothing about it. Wth.

FlyRussianUnicorn · 16/03/2016 15:12

That is what I said absolutely. Sure a basic background check would of thrown that up? And all a bit convenient isn't it- sister dies who happens to be a TA and then a job comes up at Ryans school? Right. Hmm

diddl · 16/03/2016 15:18

" they know who "Granny" mentioned in the letter was and did nothing about it."

Who's the "they" who knows who "Granny" is?

JaneHair · 16/03/2016 15:19

STD is spot on. The look was about whether the son will carry on the sins of his father TLR and what his future holds. She looked at him in the same way she eyes up her suspects. Nothing to do with incest.

JaneHair · 16/03/2016 16:04

And also her fear as to whether she might one day be the one to take him out, as it were. At least, that is my interpretation! Superb series.

hollyisalovelyname · 16/03/2016 17:13

What hapoened with Daniel's wife- do they have a child?
If they do Catherine doesn't spend anytime with that grandchild. Smile
I think Sarah L is a great actress but she either mumbles or the sound guys didn't do their job properly.

FarrowandBallAche · 16/03/2016 17:37

Daniel and his wife split shortly after their baby was born, I think he'd been seeing someone else, although don't quote me.

I could hear everyone perfectly clear! Although I'm from not far from there so that might be why Grin
