Just saw the trailer for a new series of this - can't wait! Smile

Fantastic performances. It must be written by the same person who writes Last Tango in Halifax, is it? There are so many comparisons in places, actors, the way the dialogue is written, the way characters work. Tonight's episode was one of the best things I've seen on TV in a long time.

Excitedforxmas · 15/03/2016 22:49

Brilliant program

KenDoddsDadsDog · 15/03/2016 22:52

Loved it , gutted it's over.

FarrowandBallAche · 15/03/2016 22:52

Oh sorry yes the handbrake line was good and I did actually giggle at the Pc falling over.
I wonder if he meant to!

NoelHeadbands · 15/03/2016 22:54

Yep Lulu both shows are written by Sowerby Bridge writer Sally Wainwright

hollyisalovelyname · 15/03/2016 22:55

Why did Daryl kill Tommy's mum?
Or did he ?

NoelHeadbands · 15/03/2016 22:57

Yes he did, for no other reason than she was a prostitute like the others I think

sassymuffin · 15/03/2016 22:59

Surely a BAFTA is due to Sarah Lancashire and the writers, maybe even for best Drama.

Thoroughly enjoyed every episode and sad it is over.

The fact very popular actors enjoying a lot of current success such as Katherine Kelly are prepared to have small roles surely proves the quality of the whole production.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 15/03/2016 23:03

I think the Darryl/Tommy's mum thing was a coincidence in that Darryl was killing prostitutes.

No shocking petrol bombing, no hand to hand fighting - I was expecting all this, but no, it was just fantastic. Just 'police work'. Riveting stuff.

BigHairySpider · 15/03/2016 23:08

Loved every second of it and gutted that it's over. I very rarely watch tv unless it's something special and this definitely was. So many good characters with some brilliant acting.

ElementaryMyDear · 15/03/2016 23:10

I wonder if Frances will reappear next series hellbent on revenge on TLR?

LuluJakey1 · 15/03/2016 23:13

We never watched the first series. Might buy DVD. We have been glued to this one.

Must be time for the next series of Last Tango in Halifax soon.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 15/03/2016 23:16

Series 1 is amazing and truly shocking viewing Lulu. You get to see what TLR is capable of.

NoelHeadbands · 15/03/2016 23:22

I would strongly recommend series 1 if anyone hasn't seen it.

Similar to this series in that the writing and acting was superb, but quite different in many ways- there was no 'whodunnit' aspect (we saw every step of the story) and quite violent, but not glamourised. The scene where Catherine saves Ann was done so well it was almost painful to watch

MorrisZapp · 15/03/2016 23:24

Teeny tiny nitpick:

Linlithgow isn't in East Lothian

ApricotSorbet99 · 15/03/2016 23:54

That was absolutely fantastic. Fantastic. Best TV I've seen in a long time.

Sarah Lancashire is just astoundingly talented. A true pleasure to watch. I love her.

One of the many things I love about these two series......no love interest. Has this ever happened before?

We have a strong, single, female protagonist without the merest hint of a) romance or b) any suggestion that she's longing for romance, or that she's lonely because she doesn't have a man.

That is refreshing.

Cannot wait for S3.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2016 23:59

Wow what an episode

Glad Vickys killer got caught and all knew she was a blackmailer

Good call to whoever said Neil was with Vicky and that's his dodgy past and why he lost his job etc

France's looked so pissed off finding out she wasn't the only one bushing Tommy

Least we found out why /how she got the job but didn't seem to be in any trouble for pretending to be someone else

Was kinda funny when John was telling catherine what she should do and say to talk him down

Thought he fell but rewound and he delib fell

So darryl did kill them :(

Was sure he hadn't :(

Poor alison / lots to suffer - to love and hate someone at the same time / bit like how catherine feels over Ryan

Sure there will be a s3

BMW6 · 15/03/2016 23:59

Fantastic finale and whole series superb - much preferred to series 1 which I found too distressing.

Frances and Catherines confrontation and dialogue was totally riveting - masterful writing and superb acting. Frances deluded attempts to defend TLR and to see only the potential good in him versus Catherines No, he's just a psychopath.......

Gruach · 16/03/2016 00:40

Yup, that was WOW.

Nicely set up for series 3 too.

Trollicking · 16/03/2016 00:47

I was going to write a post but see that Apricot has written the perfect post. I agree with every word. Smile

NisekoWhistler · 16/03/2016 00:58

For all those who didn't see series 1, I found the whole lot on you tube. Off now to search for Last Tango in Halifax as I've not seen that.

Gutted Happy Valley is over!

Gruach · 16/03/2016 01:14

As a few pp have recalled Catherine did become somewhat entangled with her ex in series 1...

But it definitely passed the Bechdel test. Which is undoubtedly one of the reasons why most of the characters felt so fully fleshed out - the early scenes with Catherine and her police friend and Ann on their night out for instance, or with the lovely elderly neighbour who took in the trafficked woman, or Claire falling off the waggon - all completely brilliant.

But Catherine, turning over that kernel of hate at the end, that was spine tingling.

GypsyFl0ss · 16/03/2016 06:29

So looking forward to catching up on this tonight. The best bit of writing and acting on TV or radio for miles.

hairymelonwalton · 16/03/2016 06:43

Samcro · 16/03/2016 07:09
