Anyone see Shetland tonight? New drama series on BBC1?

I liked it! Nice to see the scenery, plus Scottish accents on a BEeb programme.

I love Dougie Henshall. Had no idea this was on again so it really made my night!

I have no other insights to add.

colleysmill · 16/01/2016 14:40

Some of the plot lines were taken from the books (I remember the Red Bones one) in the earlier series - wasn't sure about this one as I've not read the 6th book yet. But the books are well worth reading

Travelledtheworld · 17/01/2016 05:22

Signing in, another Shetland fan here, though mainly for the landscapes and a weakness for ginger haired men.
Excited to see Kalinda from The Good Wife sitting on that hotel bed. Is she being trafficked ?

midsomermurderess · 18/01/2016 19:42

I agree with a previous post, there are apparently wall-to-wall Glaswegians in Shetland. I'm quite enjoying it all the same.

ABetaDad1 · 18/01/2016 19:54

Has it got any oil tankers or ponies in it?

If it hasn't got oil tankers and ponies I'm not watching.

Gruach · 18/01/2016 19:59

Oh, jolly good.

I haven't read any of the books or seen any other series. Thoroughly enjoyed this first episode. Love the radioactive idea!

As regards the woman in the hotel room (bearing in mind there may be a 'vocabulary' peculiar to this prog that I'm not familiar with,) I had the impression the man visiting her was subservient to her, or grateful. My first thought was that she might be a medic treating him for something scary. Or a therapist.

I usually only watch one thing a week - and there's been a vacancy since the new year!

musicinspring1 · 22/01/2016 19:35

Gentle bump for tonight.

Gruach · 22/01/2016 19:44

Oh, is it?

So life does have some meaning ...

Thanks. For some reason I thought it was Sunday.

diddl · 22/01/2016 21:44

Just watching part two. Will it be concluded tonight?

CocktailQueen · 22/01/2016 21:46

There are six programmes!

Aaarggh!!! He's going to kill her!!

musicinspring1 · 22/01/2016 21:58

Oooooo

PersephonePitstop · 22/01/2016 22:03

I was left feeling underwhelmed tonight.

diddl · 22/01/2016 22:16

When they had to stop when they'd just found Robbie's body, I thought that he was going to be an undercover cop.

PersephonePitstop · 22/01/2016 22:18

So did I.

SealSong · 22/01/2016 22:35

So who is Leanne, what is her history? I reckon she was orphaned when her house burnt down. And she has a previous connection with Robbie somehow I think.

I love Dougie Henshall / Jimmy Perez. That windswept sensitive / caring / brooding thing....swoon

thegiddylimit · 23/01/2016 00:18

It's the third series folks and a big name cast. Probably pretty cheap filming in Shetland TBH. And don't get the blue filter comments, it looks pretty real to me depending when in the year they filmed it.

Steven Robertson is the only real Shetlander but has toned down his accent (not sure I believe that since when I go home I don't know which accent to use, the 'English' one that is now my real accent or a pastiche of my old accent).

Anyone else get the bird fish bell tree reference immediately? Felt all nostalgic for Glasgow

No idea who dd it and think we may not even know yet if there are another 4 episodes.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 23/01/2016 08:42

We really enjoyed last night's episode.

Ciaran Hinds was fantastic, shame he was killed off. Really looking forward to the next one but two weeks!

homebythesea · 23/01/2016 09:13

I'm really enjoying this too, but haven't seen previous series. Coukd a veteran please explain the family dynamics between Perez, his daughter and the other bloke?

RidersOnTheStorm · 23/01/2016 09:18

I dozed off. How did Robbie get in the container?

diddl · 23/01/2016 09:41

I don't think that we know yet how Robbie got in the container, do we?

Wonder if the intention was just to keep him out of the way for a while rather than kill him but for whateverreason they couldn't get back to let him out?

Ciaran Hinds-fabulous!

Oooh I remember him in Persuasion.

Yoksha · 23/01/2016 10:26

homebythesea, ooh ooh, I know the answer.

The other bloke is Perez's daughter's step father.

homebythesea · 23/01/2016 11:03

yoksha thank you- I take it the mother is dead then? Was the stepdad the "other man" or some such? There seems to be a lot of tension between them?

NatashaBolkonskaya · 23/01/2016 11:40

The other bloke is Perez's daughter's step father.

Maybe I've got it wrong but isn't it Perez who is the step dad and Duncan is her biological father? Cassie lived with Perez and her mother and continued to live with Perez after her mother died.

Yoksha · 23/01/2016 12:03

Natasha, you're right. I stand corrected. Thank you. I went and did a bit of research. Sorry homebythesea for putting out codswallop. Cake Brew to make ammends.
