Anyone see Shetland tonight? New drama series on BBC1?

I liked it! Nice to see the scenery, plus Scottish accents on a BEeb programme.

At the end of the previous episode, it said it's back in 2 weeks. Most annoying.

I just watched episode 2 again on iplayer. That helped somewhat, also noticed some plot details that I missed first time round.

I needed my Dougie fix

Disappointed too - ruddy football!

Agree, hate the football, why couldn't they put it on BBC 3 or something rather than when something good is on. Crap programming by some bloke in England

Just marking my place as I'm enjoying this immensely. Windswept beaches/cliffs? Check! Brooding maverick detective who breaks the rules but gets results? Check! Weird locals who live in run down hovels (that are probably expensive holiday homes in real life)? Check!

Rather irritated that football took precedence as it always does so looking forward to next weeks episode.

Roadkill artist's house is a residential home. :)
Plenty of houses actually are held together with hope and bale twine - and after yesterday's winds... My neighbours were out yesterday in the thick of it hammering planks of wood to the caravan to stop it blowing away! Grin

Er... when I say residential home I don't mean hospice or the like - I mean a real family live there. Ooops. The old people's home is a hotel though. The police station is the real police station. And the bod where the girl has been staying is a real camping bod (cheap dorm/hostel like accommodation).

GraceKelly how did you all go on with the storms yesterday up there?

Report
GraceKellysLeftArm · 31/01/2016 12:57

I personally got on fine, knew it was coming and was prepared. I fear some of my friends will have lost tiles/sheds/fences/lean-tos/etc. There was an incident on my island when someone needed to be taken out by helicopter because of a medical emergency (ferries weren't running), but the engineers couldn't even open the doors of the hangar for the coastguard heli and when they could it wasn't safe to fly so it was about 5 hours late.

The worst is yet to come. Due to the weather the ferries from Aberdeen are iffy and I've got a click & collect all booked in for Wednesday. Usual state of affairs will be that the shelves will be bare and my order will consist of precisely one packet of dried kidney beans. Wink

Wow that's a bit drastic re that poor ill person. Hope they are ok.
Does it feel like its been a bad year for storms this year up there?

Report
GraceKellysLeftArm · 01/02/2016 11:22

Nope, just winter on the isles - same as it ever was.

I spoke to soon - got out and about a bit today. Someone in my village has lost their entire roof, lots of animal shelters gone, old house gone, two of my neighbours lost their chimneys and many caravan casualties and moving cars.

If you want to read something similar I recommend Peter May's Lewis Trilogy

Wow Grace, I hope things have settled down now, wind-wise.

And yes to the Lewis Trilogy - a good read.

Seal Settled down? Tesco stiffed me. They sent NO milk, NO cream, NO cheesecake, etc., etc. and a list of substitutions as long as my arm. Grin

Cassie is going to be in danger imo.

Yes, I don't trust the witness protection woman. She now knows how important Cassie is to him. Error!!!

SealSong · 05/02/2016 22:06

Yes she is definitely not to be trusted

Sumburgh Hotel Gracekelly?
I've had a good few nights that I can't quite remember there!

I watched the pilot episode and found it SO dull - didn't watch any more. Unattractive main character and dreary Shetland scenery don't do a lot for me.

Gruach · 05/02/2016 23:15

Oh I liked that. So much progress with so little action. It's great the way pretty much every character is in jeopardy one way or another - very tense.

Was the person incinerating the gun case at the end the malevolent old man from the old people's home? Or the no good boy?
