Anyone see Shetland tonight? New drama series on BBC1?

I liked it! Nice to see the scenery, plus Scottish accents on a BEeb programme.

OP posts:
Arkengarthdale · 04/03/2016 16:13

Nooooo Barry - deffo ltb. I'm so excited about this last episode

OldCrowMedicineShow · 04/03/2016 18:06

Gouache, I'm sure I saw the trailer for the new series of Shetland which starts on 9th March. Has anyone else seen it?

OldCrowMedicineShow · 04/03/2016 18:07

Gruach not Gouache. Bloody auto correct.

NatashaBolkonskaya · 04/03/2016 18:41

It is actually on tonight, is it? There isn't a qualifying heat for international tiddlywinks or something that they actually must show at 9 pm?

OldCrow I saw a trailer on the Drama channel for repeat showings of the earlier series. Might that be what you saw?

bigbadbarry · 04/03/2016 19:19

You are quite right. I'll pack up quick.

Arkengarthdale · 04/03/2016 19:24

They are showing series 1 on Drama from Wednesday 9th. Sky+ set Grin

SealSong · 04/03/2016 19:31

Feels like the last episode was so bloody long ago that I've forgotten half of the plot so far Angry

NOT the way to show a series, BBC!

musicinspring1 · 04/03/2016 20:16

I'm sooooo excited! And I agree that the schedulers have something against Shetland. Angry

OldCrowMedicineShow · 04/03/2016 20:19

I'm insanely excited!

It's like Hogmanay here, dishes of nuts and mugs of hot toddies.

SealSong · 04/03/2016 20:35

I'm actually watching episode 5 again as I type, to refresh my mind in readiness! Grin

It really is a superbly acted episode. I love the little flickers that cross Jimmy's face that tell so much about the emotions he is experiencing but keeping hidden...great stuff. Tosh is just amazing. Her career deserves to take off after this.

SealSong · 04/03/2016 20:38

Aah that final scene with Billy and Tosh makes me cry

OldCrowMedicineShow · 04/03/2016 20:47

Our local paper has 'Pick of the Day' on the tv pages and they only mentioned about three spoilers for tonight's Shetland. Angry

Yes, the acting is superb and so is the camera work.

diddl · 04/03/2016 22:02

Well, I watched it but I'm not really any the wiser!
Blush

So Leanne & her mum were in witness protection & hermum killed herself.

Was that related to anything else that was going on?

And Calvin had Micheal killed because Leanne to him where Michael was?

Cooloncraze · 04/03/2016 22:06

Please can someone explain....
How did Leanne know Calvin was linked to Michael?! How did she know who to email to get him killed?! It's driving me mad!

SealSong · 04/03/2016 22:07

Ok I'm a bit confused after that. Help me out if you can..

So Leanne allowed Robbie to die in the container..not sure why

Why was Robbie on the same ferry as Michael Maguire - coincidence or not? - Did him and Michael Maguire recognise each other as father and son?

She sent an email to Calvin Sarwar...how did she know him?

The email she sent to Sarwar alerted him to where Michael Maguire was and Sarwar got him bumped off??

What about the drugs and the horrible old man?

SealSong · 04/03/2016 22:10

Hah, we're all confused! Grin

EsmesBees · 04/03/2016 22:11

Glad I'm not the only confused one! I was fine until about half way through and then the last half was really confused and rushed.

Missanneshirley · 04/03/2016 22:53

It all makes sense to me apart from Leanne emailing Sarwar - how did she know who to contact?
And was all that stuff Perez said to mccoll true about Sarwar ripping him off etc?or just lying to wind him up

Oblique27 · 04/03/2016 23:02

Completely illogical ending, how did Lena know Michael's real name? How did she know to tell Sarwar? Cop out and poor message about the rape plot, left that part with no relevance to the story.....disappointing

OldCrowMedicineShow · 04/03/2016 23:19
Confused

Yes, I'm with you all, how did Leanne/ Lena know Sarwar? Did he contact her viz witness protection?
What about the horrid old man in the residential home? Freya Gauldie and Sandy's nephew? Fiscal Brennan's son?

I do think it was true regarding Perez telling McCall about Sarwar, honour amongst thieves and all that plus Perez needed evidence. That scene was grim in the prison toilets but I think one of the prison guards was one of McCall's men.

I'm glad Tosh enjoyed a companionable silence with Lowrie but am gutted she wants to be transfered, nooooo.

There were absolutely brilliant live tweets between the Orkney and Shetland libraries tonight. They stole the show.

Missanneshirley · 04/03/2016 23:27

That sounds funny (the tweets) what were they saying?
I've just had a thought - Lena's mum witnessed something that would pull lots of scary baddies down - maybe it was mccoll and co?

SealSong · 04/03/2016 23:28

Freya Galdie - I think her role was just as love interest of Michael and her role in the plot ended once she had seen the witness protection woman.

Sandy's nephew was just the lower level drug peddler, had no real connection with the rest of the story

Fiscal Brennan's son would go on to be prosecuted for rape, as whatsername came forwards and wanted charges to be pressed. It's the end of the Fiscal's career too, and she would be prosecuted

Yes prison guard was one of McCall's men

That all makes sense to me. The Leanne / Lena email is a possible plot hole though - how frustrating.

Lovely scene with Tosh and Lawrie. Poor Lawrie is a traumatised soul, and will probably live out his days as a batchelor on his deceased parent's croft. But I like to think Tosh will be a friend to him now Smile

Yes terrible she wants a transfer - if there is another season it looks like she won't be in it, unless she is stationed in Glasgow and they include that.

SealSong · 04/03/2016 23:31

Missanne - did they say that Lena's Mum had witnessed something? That could be the missing link in the story re Lena

Gruach · 05/03/2016 00:02

It was very rushed at the end.

So I was wrong about Leanne - she wasn't just a plot device. But they were a bit underhand with us - the whole ferry incident was shown through her eyes, leaving out a huge chunk!

I am unclear about whether Asha allowed Leanne's mother's case to fall apart through incompetence or influence from Calvin Sarwar. Although as Jimmy is considering continuing a relationship with her it appears she's still on the right side of the law. Which is a relief because for a brief moment it looked as if all the criminality was going to be pinned on the not-very-Shetland-looking people. And then I'd have had to wash the series from my brain.

Yes, what about the rancid old bloke? Loose end or red herring or what?

Tosh has asked for a transfer so Jimmy isn't watching when she hunts down and dismembers her attacker. That'll be the next series, mark my words.

StarStarStarFor beauty of landscape and writing and sweetness of relationships.

Ho hum. Back to the badlands of Halifax. And spying.

SmellySourdough · 05/03/2016 00:09

I want to see a new series 'di tosh'
what a brilliant actor!
