Anyone see Shetland tonight? New drama series on BBC1?

I liked it! Nice to see the scenery, plus Scottish accents on a BEeb programme.

I can't remember either, DSClarke! Was it just that he lived near the beach where the drugs washed up?

Gruach · 22/02/2016 11:44

I don't recall the specifics but I think the police went to his home because his outhouse/workshop was the sort of place someone might hide a body or imprison an inconvenient drugs dealer.

NatashaBolkonskaya · 22/02/2016 11:52

RKA noticed an intruder, didn't he? Did the contract killer hide there / break in / take food or something?

My memory is also rather hazy on the detail. I'm someone else who would be a crap detective.

OnlyLovers · 22/02/2016 11:53

I think they saw his animal cadavers/drawings somewhere that made them suspicious, but I can't remember the detail.

Ben was involved in something longer ago than Tosh's rape, no? Jimmy asked if he'd gone to uni in Glasgow, which would have been a little while ago. Can't remember any details of that either. [vague]

NatashaBolkonskaya · 22/02/2016 12:01

Just remembered something: didn't Craig smuggle a deer(?) carcase and drop it off at RKA's house. The police thought it was a drug drop.

Or am I totally losing it now now? Confused

Gruach · 22/02/2016 12:03

Natasha wasn't that quite a while after the ferry boy was found dead? When they searched Roadkill's place ferry boy was probably still alive.

After the contract killer missed the ferry out he stole a knife from one household (strong shouldered dog owner) and then hid out in an abandoned building before doing a spot of site seeing. (Was he actually killed or just unlucky in his boat/weather choices?)

Gruach · 22/02/2016 12:06

(Sorry, crossed you - I was referring to the contract killer's ducking and diving...)

NatashaBolkonskaya · 22/02/2016 12:10

wails I don't know. My head feels like it's full of cotton wool. I think I really should watch it all again. Is it still on iplayer?

It doesn't help when they have breaks for sport. Those early episodes seem to have been months ago. Hmm

NatashaBolkonskaya · 22/02/2016 12:13

Sorry complete bolding fail - that should have been: Gruach .

I am slowly being driven doolally by the drawn out suspense.

Gruach · 22/02/2016 12:19

Grin True about the gaps. I find can remember the plot but, apart from Jimmy P. Tosh and Sandy I have no clue about anyone's name.

DSClarke · 22/02/2016 13:55

Only episode 3 onwards left on iPlayer.

RKA - what did you do?

NatashaBolkonskaya · 22/02/2016 14:07

Only episode 3 onwards left on iPlayer. Bugger, I was hoping to watch tonight.

I used to be able to retain plot details better than this. Must be getting old. Sad

Arkengarthdale · 22/02/2016 14:48

I'm just loving this thread and the series. Didn't they go to check out road kill man cos Craig said the blood in the back if his van was from a deer run over on the mainland which he picked up to sell to someone in Shetland ie road kill man. And although far fetched it turned out to be true. And road kill man asked Tosh out for coffee and a digestive Grin Interesting she felt safe enough there to fall asleep but wouldn't let her colleague she'd known for ever give her a hug. I really liked the way RKM was clearly keeping himself at arms length and trying to reassure her, making her tea, not quite closing the door between them, finding a blankie for her. Sweet.

OnlyLovers · 22/02/2016 14:49

YES. That's it. Thank you.

DSClarke · 22/02/2016 15:41

yes, thank you Aken.

NatashaBolkonskaya · 22/02/2016 15:50

Arkengarthdale (Great name, beautiful place)

Thank you. Now I can stop fretting and concentrate on what I'm actually supposed to be doing. Grin

Arkengarthdale · 22/02/2016 15:53

GrinGrinGrinMebbe I should join the polis

SealSong · 22/02/2016 17:34

Yes thank you Arkengarthdale, I'd forgotten those early plot details.

It's a bugger that they've taken the early episodes off I player so quickly. They should have at least let the full series run before they took it off.

Really looking forward to the last episode now.

SealSong · 22/02/2016 17:43

Arkengarthdale, did you spot how alarmed Biscuit man was when Tosh was in mid rage? There was a sideways look of pure fear when he scooted off to make a cuppa, the poor fella. It was not what he was expecting to happen at all!
I've run through in my imagination the dialogue between them when Tosh wakes up:
Tosh: (takes off slightly dog smelling blanket) "Um, I'll be off then"
B.M: (standing slightly behind half open kitchen door, looking wary) "um, aye"
T: OK
B.M OK
Exit Tosh.
Dialogue of the century! Grin

Arkengarthdale · 22/02/2016 17:54

SealSong I think you are the script writer GrinThat dialogue is perfect.

I'm used to two-episode stories from Shetland so it caught me a bit unawares when I realised this was a six-parter. I didn't pay that much attention to the earlier episodes because when Michael Ciaran Hinds got shot, I thought that was the end of that story. Sometimes crimes are not solved. I'm gutted it's not still on iPlayer.

Happy Valley and Shetland in the same week, I'm in seventh heaven

OnlyLovers · 22/02/2016 18:05

I guess they've whipped it off iPlayer sharpish because they want us to buy it.

Arkengarthdale · 22/02/2016 18:07

OnlyLovers I'm sure you're absolutely right

Catzpyjamas · 22/02/2016 19:02

This is why my recorded shows are almost full. I have to keep checking previous episodes when I get lost. DH isn't allowed to delete ANYTHING until I've seen a whole series.

Movingonmymind · 22/02/2016 19:42

Yep, it'll be for sale on iTunes or Amazon or something am sure. I really enjoy this but make the mistake of MNing catching up on work st the same time, so other than the v moving Tosh storyline and the fact they're looking for a murderer, am really not sure what else is happening or what the Anna Chancellor or Kalinda characters were doing (wrong show emoticon) , some kind of coverup?

thegiddylimit · 23/02/2016 18:33

Really impressed with how they showed the fallout of the rape, interesting that Rape Crisis were advisors, and indeed that so many of the senior people involved in the production are women. They really did address every myth about rape.
