Ramu is quite unusual, a successful landing owning Indian. the only one it seems?

HoraceCope · 31/03/2015 16:00

but not for long

HappydaysArehere · 31/03/2015 16:10

Perhaps it is long because Jewel in the Crown was long. Also had Indian man and European woman love interest. However, the latter was supremely romantic and unforgettable. This present love interest is annoying.

Fiderer I still don't understand. If Sita told Aafrin she had delivered the certificate to his sister, why was he asking his sister so urgently if she had received it? (She refused to tell him because she was angry with him). And why is Aafrin accusing Alice of not giving it to Sita, if Sita has said she delivered it? Confused

HoraceCope · 31/03/2015 22:06

did Sita tell that she delivered?
i cant remember

HoraceCope · 31/03/2015 22:07

ok if sita said she delivered it, she lied, we know she lied, so we need to know if sister says they got note. its a note not a certificate btw - a note to get rid of certificate

Fiderer · 01/04/2015 06:42

I'm certain Aafrin asked Sita "Are you sure you gave Sunni the note because she says you didn't" (ish) and Sita repeats that she did. Sunni may have refused to answer this last episode but she had already told him Sita didn't.

Sita is definitely lying. We saw her looking through the window but I can't remember if she saw the soldier kneeling and going though the case or we did (iykwim). And we saw her reading the note lying in bed. The only reason I can think of for her lying is that it was too late anyway and by lying she got back at Sunni who's horrid to her.

That she causes Aafrin all the anguish as a result doesn't seem to bother her, maybe she doesn't realise how important the whole matter is. Maybe she's dense Grin

Why Aafrin thinks Alice never gave Sita the note when Sita told him she had given it to Sunni doesn't make any sense. Maybe he's dense Grin Or so worried about not knowing what happened and who has the note and so shocked/ashamed/angry with himself for kissing Alice that he's angry with her and the note accusation is the only outlet he has for his anger.

Blimey, the note thing is more complicated than the murder Grin

diddl · 01/04/2015 07:53

Blimey his sister annoys me!

Because Sita didn't get there in time it makes no sense that she didn't just admit it.

Alice told him that she read the note so I guess that's a reason to note trust her.

Why did he keep the bloody certificate thing?

Wasn't the guy already dead by the time he stole it?

Fiderer · 01/04/2015 08:36

Sita annoys me too and there's no chemistry between them imo.

He kept it as he knew that the attacker hadn't said "British devil" but that it was a personal attack on "devil" Whelan. Then he agreed for his job/advancement to lie to the police. Not sure if he guessed the membership certificate was a forgery but he must have realised the police's case would be weaker without evidence that the man was a member of the Congress.

It was to get back at Whelan for "forcing" him to lie though it was his own decision. And the more I type the more annoying I find Aafrin.

Ralph's the only interesting character apart from the scenery. I'm waiting to see Alice get her comeuppance. And for Alice to stop being a drip.

Fiderer · 01/04/2015 08:37

*Sarah to get her comeuppance.

diddl · 01/04/2015 08:45

I feel a little bit sorry for Sarah.

She's been a bitch to Alice, admittedly.

But there's Alice swanning around at Viceregal Lodge(?), whilst Sarah seems to be looked down on for "just" being the missionary's wife.

And in fact Alice isn't really "all that" (by the standards of the time) as she has left her husband.

are ralph & Madeleine married?

If not, will it ever happen/

Fiderer · 01/04/2015 09:06

I've stacks of work to do this morning so have been re-reading the Guardian recaps Grin

It was Sunni who told Aafrin that the attacker wasn't a member of the Congress so he did know the certificate was a forgery. And I'd forgotten that he told the police about the "British devil" comment not (only) for his job but mainly to get Sunni released from prison.

I suppose stealing the certificate was his feeble attempt to get back at Whelan.

From the Guardian recap: "Aafrin enrusts Alice to find Sita to take a message instructing Sunni to destroy the paper. Got that? It doesn’t matter, because Sita chickens out, which is understandable as the family hate her." So it looks like she didn't see the police already there.

Ralph and Madeleine aren't married yet. Wonder how Cynthia will get him out of the engagement.

HappydaysArehere · 01/04/2015 09:11

Can't find a character to care about. Julie Walters doesn't appear to have done herself any favours as she performs her witch like part. The plot doesn't seem to hang together with any substance. Why would the British police target and assault that poor Indian at a time of racial and political tension?

HoraceCope · 01/04/2015 10:43

i love the guardian recap Grin
and Julie Walter's face when she was told Madeleine's father was not rich after all Grin

HoraceCope · 01/04/2015 10:44

did you catch Lena completely losing her Indian accent in the most recent episode?

HoraceCope · 01/04/2015 10:45

Ramu was an easy target, it makes Cynthia happy - as the moustached viceroy ? says, It is not our problem.

Clawdy · 06/04/2015 09:31

Anyone catch this week's? At least Aafrin sorted out the certificate thing - could have been done well before! Trial was gripping - what amazing eyes Ramu has......

LaVolcan · 06/04/2015 10:45

Poor young McLeod - whatever he does it goes wrong.

Clawdy · 06/04/2015 18:17

Love the way his character has developed. It would be nice to see him and Sunni getting together.

Davros · 07/04/2015 18:39

The only characters I care about are Ramu and Iain. Good article in last week's Radio Times (I think that's where I saw it) about how our dramas are losing their way due to overseas sales.

cleanmachine · 11/04/2015 17:08

Oh dear. Catching up on a few episodes and is such bloody hard work to watch. I'm losing the will.

The certificate story is dull and we don't care anymore. There are too many contradictions to make sense of the situation. Why did Ralphs servant rape the lady chef? Why didn't sita deliver the letter? Why is Ralph good one minute then vile? Is there an incestuous relationship between him and Alice?

I'm really really trying to stay interested. Everyone is intensely dislikeable.

chocolatelife · 11/04/2015 22:19

i thought Sita tried to deliver letter but police were already at the house.
dont remember a rape scene.

Clawdy · 11/04/2015 22:46

I thought Ralph's servant was trying it on with his own wife because he'd just seen Ralph and Madeline in that position and it had given him ideas! As soon as she realised what he was doing she slapped him soundly and sorted him out - not rape. Or did I get that wrong?

chocolatelife · 11/04/2015 22:49

i saw that too Clowdy, thought it was his wife also

Clawdy · 12/04/2015 22:18

Aafrin actually smiled tonight....Smile
