What do we think?

JW overacting as normal....

OP posts:
HoraceCope · 24/02/2015 08:18

i know the document forged by kaiser, Jw's aid, to show the would be assassin was a terrorist, but he wasnt, it was personal and something to do with ralph's previous job?

Weebirdie · 24/02/2015 08:25

Ah thank you, so that could also account for whatever it was the would be assassin said when he approached them to do the shooting. He was yelling something and the guy who was shot remembered it when he was having his pic taken but then decided against telling saying if he could remember anything.

And I'm gald Ralph and the assassin knew each other from before - I didnt really think he could be his dad but strangers things are possible. Smile

Floundering · 24/02/2015 08:37

In one of the trailers someone said what the assassin shouted was " you devil" or "you are a devil"

I agree Horace a strong emotional connection, but hatred on the old mans part. Maybe he had a son who had an affair with Ralph at his previous posting & died/was killed as a result being a native?

JW is a scheming old bat who trades on the many connections she has built up over the years & the gossip she hears. Probably the only link Ralph has with his childhood as he grew up there so he clings to her. She is trying to manipulate both him & the yanks as a marriage brought about by her would be very useful if Ralph becomes viceroy.

HoraceCope · 24/02/2015 08:46

ralph's sister, is she alice, thought the asssssin said You are the devil, but ralph denied that. agree it could be related to his son and ralph

diddl · 24/02/2015 09:21

Does anyone else think that Ralph might be part Indian?

Weebirdie · 24/02/2015 09:50

I did, and I'm still not sure that he isn't.

I really did think he was handing his father, the would be assassin, a cup of water when he went to the cell because of the intimacy between them in the scene.

It seems though they just knew each other form the the past and he actually gave him a razor blade or something in the cup.

But as I said earlier - I still think there's a surprise in store re his ethnicity.

Floundering · 24/02/2015 10:04

Horace you're right it WAS Alice, I remember now, she suspects something or remembers something from their past too I'm sure.

Ralph is too pale skinned to be part Indian, I am sure but there was something between him & the assasin.

He cut his own throat (badly) with the rim of the water bowl, but managed to say something to the nosey newspaperman not sure if he got it though.

LaVolcan · 24/02/2015 10:05

So if Ralph knew the would be assassin, was the bullet not intended for him, but for Dalal himself? But it went wrong because Alice went and interfered and insisted on Dalal being taken to hospital?

HoraceCope · 24/02/2015 10:15

oh i was just confused because his hair was dark, like an indian's. but that could be the case, very common, although the missionary's school is for part indian's isnt it.

alistair mcgowan has indian genes, as does joanna lumley

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Indian

HoraceCope · 24/02/2015 10:15

no i am sure the bullet was intended for ralph

diddl · 24/02/2015 10:15

I thought that the "assassin" called out Ralph's name to get his attention?

ralph whelon

Weebirdie · 24/02/2015 10:22

No, he's not too pale skinned to be part Indian. My children are all mixed race and none of them have the same colouring, plus one of my grandchild is a blue eyed blonde whereas my other grandson the same age as him is obviously mixed race - their dads are brothers.

And to add to list of well know people who are of Indian heritage - Billy Connelly.

So, can we safely say there is a connection between Ralph and the would be assassin.

diddl · 24/02/2015 10:27

I thought that Anglo Indian could also mean born there but of British descent?

LaVolcan · 24/02/2015 10:29

Hadn't somebody found a link to Ralph and the would be assassin in one of Ralph's previous postings?

TheCraicDealer · 24/02/2015 10:37

There was something that made me think that the kid Adam who was found in on the tracks in episode one could be Ralph's kid- something in the teaser anyway? "Terrorist" could be an ex-lover's da out for revenge.

I like it, beautifully shot and although most of the cast are relatively unknown they're doing a solid turn. Can't get past Donovan from the Inbetweeners transformation!

HoraceCope · 24/02/2015 10:38

i think on reflection you might be right diddl, joanna lumley is quite fair skinned isnt she

Floundering · 24/02/2015 12:13

I stand corrected weebirdie Grin

Lavolcan I think the nosey reporter hinted he'd found out something didn't he?

Yes young Adam has to be significant, not srue how yet, could be a love child I guess.

diddl · 24/02/2015 13:50

"I think on reflection you might be right diddl, joanna lumley is quite fair skinned isnt she"

Although does it make sense that Brits would call themselves Anglo indian due to having a history with the country?

It does make more sense that it would refer to someone of Indian descent as well.

diddl · 24/02/2015 13:51

Just found this-

"a person of English birth or citizenship living in India."

so i would imagine both then.

Weebirdie · 24/02/2015 14:27

What are we like Grin

HoraceCope · 24/02/2015 17:53

oh yes, i forgot about billy connelly,

anyway

back to the tv programme Grin

Stratter5 · 24/02/2015 18:40

Anglo Indian is also those who where born out there.

I loved it, very evocative, beautiful scenery and people.

WONAR · 01/03/2015 18:53

A lot of people seem disappointed with the show but I'm really enjoying it myself. The cinematography alone is a visual feast. I now plan my Sunday evening activities (shower/hair wash plus dry/style, epic as I have a lot of hair; cooking/eating dinner; clothes wash; cleaning up) around it.

I hope there's more of a reveal of Alice and Ralph's secret(s) this episode, but not too much. I'm quite enjoying all the mystery.

bluelamp · 01/03/2015 23:22

Anglo indian

Didn't Alistair MGowan's 'Who do you think you are?" programme talk about this and it explicitly means people with 'mixed' blood Linky.

Davros · 01/03/2015 23:51

I grew up in west London, not far from Southall and knew lots of people from that area. I understood Anglo Indian to be Indians who came to the UK a LONG time before the main immigration in the 50s/60s, maybe early 20th century, not sure. I remember a girl I knew during school time who I then worked with later on telling me this. She was white (Part Irish) and had married what she called an Anglo Indian, described as above.
