SCD 2014 #5: It's the final!

Following on from thread 4.

Last lap now everybody!

First time a couple have been against each other in the final I think. Fun dinnertimes this week in the Clifton-Hauer household I would imagine.

I'm vaguely hoping for a Caroline - Frankie/Simon - Mark result, although, other than Mark last I'm not too fussed really.

Completely agree with other posters about the relatively low standard this year. There's no one left who is even close to Natalie and Artem last year - who should have won, by the way!

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2014 14:50

Yes Doesn'tLeft I started watching properly in 2012\13 I agree they must've been soo nervous about learning 2 dances in a week; to be fair it must be almost impossible if you've got family and work commitments.

I don't remember Cara but she was very good on Polka's link (another who was pre trained I imagine!)

SpanishFly · 17/12/2014 14:59

Ah i see re the 4 tens. I know that a 10 isn't a perfect professional standard, but I'm the past 10s weren't given to dances where there were clearly errors.
Len also said previously that if he has given a 9 to someone but then the next couple dance better then he has to give them a 10.

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 17/12/2014 15:17

The best ever showdance was Artem and Natalie's whatever happened to her

Lottapianos · 17/12/2014 16:15

Natalie was totally robbed. I never got the fuss about Artem and Abbey - she always looked so wooden to me and I never particularly enjoyed watching her dance. Natalie, on the other hand, was spectacular - although she's another one who had loads of dance training previously Hmm

ppeatfruit · 17/12/2014 16:57

Sorry was it Natalie Imbruglia? I didn't see it.

MegCleary · 17/12/2014 17:43

I think the show is missing Artems choreography too. (Can you tell i miss him too sniff)

Pandora37 · 17/12/2014 18:02

ppeatfruit no it wasn't, it was Natalie Gumede who played Kirsty in Coronation Street. She'd obviously had a lot of dance training before and was amazing from week 1 so she was never going to win. Abbey went on more of a "journey" that is popular.

Was that the dance where they used canes and flung themselves round some poles? It was very good.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 17/12/2014 18:06

I think Abby achieved far more than Natalie.

Chipstick10 · 17/12/2014 18:15

Natalie was in the same bracket as Denise Van Outen and pixie lott . Can't see the point in almost trained dancers entering

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 17/12/2014 18:46

Natalie actually had Latin-American listed on her CV...

I liked Denise though, she was more stage dancing than ballroom/Latin.

Morning all
What do we all think of the tunes for Saturday then?
Caroline dancing to Angels I guess means a rumba contemporary showdance?
Frankie with Get Happy (Kim did qs to it two years ago) I guess means a suited Fred and ginger from them?
Mark don't stop me now is going to be manic/ wasn't great music when Kara used it?
SIMON may pick up the vote after all.....a little less conversation is an excellent song ( I had thought it would work for Jake pre getting knocked out) so I reckon they are doing a jive swing number with lots of lifts acc to Xtina.
The personal picks are what I expected...Charleston, Paso, Samba, Argentine....but I thought the paso would be judge's pick as Frankie would be doing a ballroom freestyle but if she is more hollywood/jazz/tap then they could do the Viennese in round one I guess unless the judges choose the tango without Greenface this time. Caroline won't be doing a rumba round one then if her freestyle is slow, not sure what the judges will pick for her. Too soon to do salsa two weeks in a row?
Judge's choices won't be announced til the night....still reckon jive for Mark and quicksand for Simon.
Just cos they want to see it again doesn't mean it has to be a dance to be improved does it? If that is the case then Caroline would be doing her AS for sure. But I am pretty sure judges' favourite means the producer's favourite, namely a high scoring dance but not from last week, but not the showstopper as they are needed to gain more votes so are held back for the second half...

GettingFiggyWithIt · 18/12/2014 03:40

Quicksand? Poor Simon.
Quickstep.
A little less conversation was used on scd for one of my fave pros numbers with just the blokesXmas Blush
But has also been used twice by Maks and Derek in DWTS and the latter won after his freestyle to it with Nicole Scherzringah. So the glitterati might well be Xtina's for the taking after all!

GettingFiggyWithIt · 18/12/2014 03:42

Glitterball.
Honestly I give up!

ppeatfruit · 18/12/2014 07:05

Thanks Pandora Silly me Xmas Blush of course I saw it, yes she was very good but as you say she could've been a pro. I thought Abbie was sweet but she was a bit lacking in personality too. (A bit Frankieish!). It seems we ,the public, can only put up with so many highly trained contestants.

SIMON TO WIN!!!!!!! I just hope Christina's lifts aren't too much for him Xmas Grin

ppeatfruit · 18/12/2014 07:15

Caro and Pascha on R2 NOW!!!!

areyoubeingserviced · 19/12/2014 09:15

Hope Simon and Kristina win.
I think that now that Simon has relaxed, he has become more likeable. I think that at the beginning he came across as quite arrogant, but I think it was probably nerves.
I also like Caroline , so I don't mind if she wins. However,I think it is time for a Kristina win.

Lottapianos · 19/12/2014 09:25

I absolutely love Kristina and would be thrilled for her to win. She's a fabulous dancer, a great choreographer and I just love her whole blonde bombshell look. I dont think that Simon is the best dancer although he has improved hugely over the series

ppeatfruit · 19/12/2014 09:28

I agree areyoubeing But I will over the moon if Simon wins, I'm going to miss Strictly Xmas Sad

Did anyone see the most eye opening moment of IT2? It was the pre titles bit on Wed. ; Zoe was holding up a sequinned swimsuit and bathing cap and refusing to wear them, 2 (very young) producers were sitting there who said it would be boring if she didn't. I know it was meant to be a joke but it said a lot about SCD and it's hyperactivity Grin .

I loved the dancing teachers though!!

SilverShadows · 19/12/2014 13:58

Has anyone seen the showdances (well, they call them freestyle) this week from DWTS?
There is an bonkers Mario themed one!

I'm hoping Caroline wins, mainly because I like her. Ability wise I don't think there is much between her, Frankie and LWMOB. Mark is crap, but I don't dislike him. I'm pleased he got to the final but she shouldn't win.

I used to like KFG, and he does make me come over all peculiar when he does a paso/tango. He is like a puppy the rest of the time - so earnest and needing to please.
I cannot warm to Kristina. I think she is an excellent choreographer, but I actively dislike her.
Pascha is lovely. I could RUIN him. Am hoping the rumors of him and Caroline are unfounded, as I don't like to think of him as a serial partner shagger.
Can't decide how I feel about Karen Hauer. I think she has the ability to be a real bitch but then I can't see how she would be in a relationship with Kevin if so. I'll be honest, she is a bit out of his league isn't she?

Anyone else looking forward to the rejects dance? Scott Mills is bringing back the crab!

Lottapianos · 19/12/2014 14:09

Silver, I have to stick up for Mark here - he is in no way crap! He's not the strongest dancer left but he has improved so much and his jive and samba were both really good.

SilverShadows · 19/12/2014 14:13

Oh sorry, I should have said "crap compared to the rest". I agree he has improved so much since the days of the superman paso, and his Charlston was brilliant.

ppeatfruit · 19/12/2014 14:37

Yes silver agree about Karen but they've been together for 4 years Xmas Grin

I found it odd that Kristina said she's not at all competitive on IT2!!!! There's a mumsyness about her with Simon because despite the botox she's deffo quite a bit older than him!

I believe Mark has worked really hard to become a passable dancer but he's not in Simon's league Xmas Grin

Bollard · 19/12/2014 14:58

Hello, may I join in? I wanted Jake to win so was very sad that he went out. I like all the couples left, although Mark's pretty daft with all his "journey" crap.

I'm most looking forward to Simon's show dance - brilliant music and I reckon the choreography will be really exciting and showy. I like Frankie's music too and think their dance with be lovely, although I don't find them very exciting.

I love Mark's music but I think it will be difficult to dance to, and could be a bit frantic. Caroline's music is unbearably sentimental so the dance will have to be awesome to win me over.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/12/2014 16:26

ppeat Kristina's only 6 months older than Simon. She was born in September 1977, Simon was March 1978. (I'm kind of surprised he's only 36...)
