SCD 2014 #5: It's the final!

Following on from thread 4.

Last lap now everybody!

First time a couple have been against each other in the final I think. Fun dinnertimes this week in the Clifton-Hauer household I would imagine.

I'm vaguely hoping for a Caroline - Frankie/Simon - Mark result, although, other than Mark last I'm not too fussed really.

I noticed that as well. they looked like they were having a lot of fun.

ref. Kevin he was a bit OTT and his choreography rather frenetic but Frankie coped very well didn't she? She could've stropped and refused to do the fast stuff couldn't she? IMO he lacks the sophistication of some of the pro men. He's sweet though; very supportive of Karen.

Re the earlier comment about Take That not being there - I noticed that too. The audience members were different, ie Michelle Keegan and Lee from Blue etc weren't there. Also, the contestants weren't on the balcony, and the judges weren't at their desks. Oh, and Natalie's hair was different during the TT routine than it was 3 minutes later

TT weren't there according to Marian Keyes Twitter it was pre-recorded. Plus Ola was dancing to them.

Take That and One Republic filmed their parts on 5th December. I had tickets and a frock to wear and then my husband had a last minute meeting 3 hours drive away so I had to miss it.

I would have minded so much but the last time I had tickets was 4 years ago and I couldn't go because I'd contracted meningitis.

Am very disappointed that Caroline was in fact a trained dancer. What a mockery it makes of the whole thing. She was my favourite too.

Re Caroline being a trained dancer, was she trained in ballroom and Latin American? I'm just wondering if it's similar to pop singers entering that opera competition. ?

She did ballroom and Latin in dancing on wheels a few years ago

But that on its own is very different from Strictly. Has her previous experience been significant enough to be a big deal? Is a genuine question - I don't know the extent of her past

Caroline took a 3 year dance degree. I'm sure that helped with the contemporary dance style that she and Pasha used in a few of their dances, including the showdance.

Her dance degree will not have covered Ballroom and Latin in any detail, but it will have covered important things like body mechanics - posture, poise, use of arms and how to achieve different leg actions.

I'm a bit confused (haven't watched the programme before this year, just some episodes) - was it Pasha or someone else who partnered an ex-EastEnders actress (DAwn in EE) and they have on? I remember that they announced getting engaged, but now I'm reading on here that Caroline is having a thing with him?

ah right! so is it just a empty rumour re Caroline?
And who WAS the partner of Dawn from EE then? I remember than he was also russian, obviously not on SCD anymore.

I don't normally bother with the Christmas specials but I watched yesterday. I've forgotten just how good Louis was at ballroom, his quickstep was amazing! I think he put everyone else in the shade.

Louis was amazing. I luffs him. Forgot how good Rachel Stevens was too.

I think Rachel was a bit unlucky with her partner, he was too tall for her. She looked less like a little girl when she was dancing with Vincente because they matched heights better. Louis was fabulous, he completely outclassed the others.

Shame most don't have their original partners though as that's part of it for me. Loved seeing Robin back too.

I think the partner thing couldn't be helped. Quite a few of the professionals weren't in it this year, and they had to choose from those who had gone out by the time the Christmas people needed to start training. I think they actually recorded the special in November, didn't they?

What I find really charming about Louis is that he has this slightly teenage thing of looking a bit out of his depth and not entirely sure that being there isn't a bit dorky, and then he gets on the floor and completely nails it and gets right into character.

Only Lisa and Robin were right - both Louis and Russell had danced with Flavia (so they'd have needed somebody else anyway), Rachel had danced with Vincent, and I think both Ola and Brendan were still in the main show when they recorded the special.
