Good point re train platform ( but if Ed Miliband looked like Atticus, Labour would not be in trouble!)

Ha!!!
There is a fleeting resemblance
..
and I am not an Ed fan at all.
All that talk if Labour governments must have put it in my mind

We only have one platform at our station

But then you can't catch a fast train to London there

Maggie Smith and Isis are the best actors in the whole series.

Poor Marigold. First ripped away from the farmer's wife and brought to a strange place with Edith. Then left with a babysitter in that strange place. Then brought back and off with the farmer to her 'home' again only for Edith to whisk her away up to the Big House to be raised by nannies. They really didn't worry about attachment in those days.

Baxter is in parole, according with the cops. So if they felt whe was keeping information she could be going back to jail.

I was just thinking how nice for marigold to be raised in a house where her aunt and grandpa will treat her as a poor thing all the time, and her cousins will be spoiled...

I don't know about you guys but we both got watery eyes from the end with Isis there. We went off to find the cat but she was indifferent to our affection.

Is there a line to slap Mary? If so, can I join?

I can't believe you are all crying over the fictitious dog and not concerned about the fictitious child Grin

I was upset/concerned about the dog and Marigold.

I'm clearly the most well rounded person on this thread.

Why on earth didn't they show Mrs Drewe meeting Cora and breaking the shocking news about Edith having an illegitimate child? I wonder how Cora responded. That would have been an interesting scene, and I thought the Mrs Drewe actress was pretty good, she made me shed a tear last week when Edith took away 'her baby'.

It's like last week where Edith's fiance's colleague came to Downton to break the news about him being found dead. But we didn't see them meeting. That also would have been a very dramatic scene. They are leaving out the best bits!

And I don't really buy it with Lord Whatsit's (Melton is it?) sons accepting the invitation to dinner at Downton and then being so outrageously rude to Isabel and the whole family. Doesn't ring true at all, it must be breaking the rules of polite conduct for their class and time? They might think all those things but wouldn't say them out load. If they disapproved of the marriage so much, more likely they just wouldn't have come to dinner.

Sorry to butt in but what happened to the other kitchen maid (Ivy?) who Alfred fancied when Daisy fancied him but she fancied the other footman who has just left? Did she leave?

Report
diddl · 03/11/2014 07:52

I think that Ivy went back to NY to cook for Cora's brother.

I can't remember why lord Merton's son Larry was expected to be so rude? They made reference to Lady Sybil and Branson, but I can't remember the incident?

Report
SmatteringOfPatois · 03/11/2014 08:39

Larry fancied Sybil but she was with Pickle. Larry spiked Pickle's drink and wound him up, Pickle went off on a political rant but was saved when one arm Antony said he spotted the spiking incident.

The thing with Mary getting married again is that she'd surely leave Downton (hurrayyyyy!)

so she either needs to marry someone who would move in with them for whatever reason, would die soon so that she moves back or works away a lot so that she doesn't bother to move out!

Is that why just Lady sybil died?

JF couldn't think of a way of bring both her & Tom back?
Or maybe the actress wanted out?

I agree about the dinner scene, nadia. Surely the sons would have perfectly polite in public at least . It's all a bit Jeremy Kyle

Didn't the trailer for next week show Tom and sybbie moving away?
