She was v good as Cordelia. I love the scene where she climbs up onto the roof where Sebastian & Charles are sunbathing.
She's also good at being waspish here as Lady Flintshire.

Mary's dull marriage story - presumably she would set up home somewhere with the unfortunate husband and take George. So if Tom does leave taking Sybbie, Lord 6 won't have anyone to help him run the estate or any of his (acknowledged) grandchildren at DA.

Or the poor sap would not only have to deal with Mary's Orifice of Death but neglect/abandon their own interests to the greater Downton good.

no of course it wouldn't work- Susan must have been born in 1880ish. Bother. It was a lovely though.

Strange line break there!

LadyMary'sDeathDealingOrifice would be a great username, but perhaps it's a bit long...

Actually could Cordelia Flyte have grown up to marry Lord Severn and at Trent, or whatever his name is? Do the dates work?

I like Mary, despite her death-dealing orifice! I find Edith very irritating and whiny and I will be very cross if she marries Mr Branston
Pickle.

Why is everyone so pro Edith and anti Mary? Neither of them are terribly nice to each other - Edith did leak the news about Mary having the ambassador guy die in her bedroom, after all.... Which was bitchy in the extreme....

But Pamuk had his life force sucked out of him by the strength of Lady Mary's orifice.

Fair enough, and all power to Lady Mary's orifice, but I think people should be warned.

But that aside, it's just acting, isn't it? They're not real people

Shock

How could you???

Lady Sinderby is Atticus's mother, isn't she? Cordelia Flyte is Rose's mother.

I though that too. But that aside, it's just acting, isn't it? They're not real people.

Thomas is gorgeous and I think that if he was to find love he'd become a better person.

Hakluyt I was wondering where I knew her from! She has aged really well.

I thought it was lovely to see Thomas smiling, he is gorgeous!

I think Thomas is just happy to be alive and not in pain/fear.

Report
Hakluyt · 12/11/2014 07:08

Why has Thomas stopped being evil incarnate?

I can't look at Lady Sinderby without thinking about the glorious Cordelia Flyte and it make me sad.

Isn't all just a ruse to get Bates to confess?

Report
ZingOfSeven · 11/11/2014 23:28

maybe Revenge writers helped with some of the plot lines? Grin

Plus apparently now other women he attacked have come forward. So surely the suspect pool has just increased dramatically?

I really don't get the Greene murder plot line.
Green was seen arguing with someone before he was pushed under the bus. The police came to question Mr Bates. At no point was it mentioned this was a little blonde woman. So you would have thought they were talking to Bates based on info that it was a tall, well built man. Now they get another witness saying it's a small woman. What?!

seasalt me and my DH were crying with laughter at that- he said they would have had to go in with one of those big box cameras and flash bulbs on a stick, so I had to google it during the programme. Apparently from about 1922, cameras were relatively small, with integral flash bulbs. The photographer just photographed her going in and coming out with her top adjusted.

Surely if Edith leaves, there will only be one Crawley child left at Downton, and the most unpleasant one at that! Wouldn't it have been better in that case to end the series if all the younger actors want to bugger off to Hollywood or whatever they are doing? Only Lily James seems to be making loads of films, the rest may as well have stayed!

"Just wondering if her story is actually heading somewhere."

Oooh! maybe she pushed Greene under the bus!!

Report
seasalt · 11/11/2014 10:46

Brendan Coyle learned to act in Ireland so maybe he picked up a bit of an accent!

The thing with the photos - wouldn't a camera in those days have had a very loud flash bulb. I know Atticus was drunk but surely he would have noticed someone taking his picture?

I was just looking up the surname Denker, as the character seems so pointless. Germanic/Dutch, Jewish. Just wondering if her story is actually heading somewhere.

I think that Matthew Goode is in the Christmas Ep-but yet another suitor for Mary?
Would be great for someone to see her for the bitch she is & tell her so.
Or prefer Edith!

It would make sense for Edith to go to America with Tom, but then there'd be no one much left!

Perhaps Tom will leave in the Christmas ep but be back sometime in the new series!

I would prefer Tom to go to Boston and never be seen again to seeing him get together with Mary. He deserves much better.
