The farmer's son was Daisy's husband, William, the footman, she married him on his deathbed when he was dying of war wounds.

Poor Isis. You may have been the world's longest-lived pooch but eventually even you had to be called to the great dog hut in the sky.

What the hell is going on with Edith's magazine empire now? She can't run it from overseas, but she can from Yorkshire? Eh? Or is she planning to dump Marigold in the nursery and return to her fabulous life in London?

As ever, had no idea which SuitorClone was kissing Mary to drive off the other, until Mary addressed the non-kissing one as Tony. Hurrah - glad that seemed to have worked, although unclear as to why.

Baxter is out on parole, isn't she? So any hint of funny business and it's back in the clink for her. Am unutterably bored by the Legend of the Train Ticket, this is so obviously gearing up to the Christmas Spesh.

As to Lord Merton's sons - bloody rude. I thought Violet was going to lay into them (poss not using quite the language of Pickle).

Saddam and Osama! Grin

Daisy was briefly married to a footman whose name might have been William. He died of wounds in WW1. He was Mr Mason's only child. I like that relationship, actually.

I feel so sad about Isis. What with my favorite being evicted from X factor and then this, I feel thoroughly sad! Ruddy telly.

Did she actually marry him? I don't remember that bit

IIRC she didn't really want to but Mrs Patmore talked her into it. William died happy, and she got a farm.

Yes, she did marry him - but then he died about 12 hours later.

Yes Alfred was the one who left to be a professional chef they are all interchangeable really

Daisy didn't want to marry William, she was sort of embarrassed into being his girlfriend while he was away then marrying him on his deathbed. She couldn't face Mr Mason for a while as she felt she'd been dishonest but she eventually told him and he didn't mind because she'd made William so happy and he still wanted her as his only family.

Awesome episode. Great stuff from Cora and Tom.

Lord 6 too busy with Isis to consider the small child coming to live in his house forever! Oh Rabbit.

Checking in... Got a bit lost because I missed a session couple weeks back. But get it now. Poor Isis. Mary is getting ruder and ruder. Edith... Do you think she will really get marigold into the house? And why was Anna speculating like that?!! Thought she was little miss discrete? Or is she only loyal to Mary?!

Surely Tom won't leave?! He is the only young man abovestairs, it makes no sense to get rid of him! And how can he take Sybbie away from her only family!

Ah William! Yes it is coming back now, thank you!

I remember Anna told Mrs P about the photo under Edith's pillow on the night of the fire but did they suspect something years ago when she disappeared off to Switzerland? Can't remember now.

I wondered about Mary and Tom too! There were definitely hints weren't there?
When did Charles call it off? I thought he was queuing up for Mary! There is definitely going to be something with him in Poland too.. More nazis?

I'm firmly on Team "Mary Dies Alone" now. She seems to have lost any redeeming qualities she ever had. And they were few to begin with!

At least with Whatsisface going to Poland her dreary romantic storyline should be on hold for a while.

Am starting to really dislike Anna/Bates. Bates was always pretty hard to bear, but Anna judges people plenty in her own way. Both are pretty quick to turn cold on people, when they've had so much support over the years. Neither of them seem very Christian, certainly not in comparison to Moseley or Baxter.

Tom won't leave I don't think.
Anna definitely suspects about Marigold and will tell Mary.
Rose's young man remind d's me of Ed MilibandGrin

Is it the end of this series next week? It's whizzed past.

Surely Mary was on the wrong platform to catch a train TO London, as Edith and Cora had just got off the train FROM London? Did anyone else notice this?

Report
sleepyhead · 02/11/2014 22:35

I can't believe they're sending Marigold back to the farm for a couple of days and then taking her away again!

So Cora agreed that Edith had treated Mrs Farmerwife badly, but it's a jolly good idea to dangle the little girl in front of her for a few hours and then snatch her away again Sad

Report
curiousgeorgie · 02/11/2014 22:35

Do we think that they're not going to actually get Marigold? And that perhaps Farmers wife will steal her away before Edith gets a chance to 'bring her back to the house in daylight?' Shock

Yes, series finale next week. 90 minutes. Oh good.

Sadly, I suspect this is all fairly historically accurate, and the Big House can do anything they like to tenants.

That's what I was thinking Georgie!! How would you feel, just mourning the loss of your adoptive child, then have her back again, only to go away?!! If all the upper classes behaved this way, it's no wonder the working classes hated them so much!!!
