For continued waffling... Smile

I thought Rose's Wedding was disappointingly rushed. Would have liked more episode related to this.

The Gillingham bit was pointless. He will marry American girl.
Mary will then discover she is pregnant (would serve her right for things no to go 'her way' for a bit!) and have to be a bit bloody nicer to Edith.

The 'drinking den/cardsharp' bit was pointless.
Staff have more time off than worktime.

There is NO WAY a plaque would have been made re the poor lad who was shot for 'cowardice'. And did you notice the cook failed to thank LordGrumpy?

Re Anna/Bates/Green - soooooooooooooo bored of this.
I expect they will try to hang Anna, Bates will confess (though it wasn't him), she will then find she is pg, Bates will hang, but it was really Baxter. Who will then confess to Mosely who will then call off their wedding and want nowt to do with her. Or something...

Mary better not marry Tom.
Was hoping he would take Edith and Marigold to America with him and Sybbie.

HoHoHappyHolidays · 10/11/2014 09:42

I so badly want Mary and Tom to get together!!!

Pipbin · 10/11/2014 09:48

Could Mary be pregnant? How long ago was her 'dalliance' anyway?
Time does move strangely at Downton.

eddiemairswife · 10/11/2014 10:24

If Mary was in London at the time of Greene's murder then Anna, her maid, would have been with her. Don't forget Mary wasn't able to dress herself until her dirty weekend.

omri · 10/11/2014 10:51

Oh pipbin pleeeeease can I do that?? Would be a dream come true!!

diddl · 10/11/2014 10:59

Mary & Tom, oh good grief no!

Tom doesn't deserve that!

When Mary & tony met for the afternoon, was that when Mary told him to get rid of Greene?

When Bates had the time off & did or didn't go to London, where was Anna?

fancyanotherfez · 10/11/2014 11:11

I wanted longer spent on Roses wedding, too, if only to moon over her exquisite dress! But also, the whole Jewish thing seemed to be wrapped up incredibly quickly! I married into a Jewish atheist family, who aren't even bothered about the whole Matrilineal (sp?) descent thing and they comment more often than Lord Sinderby!
They wasted a lot of time on a boring card shark side story that began and ended in about 5 seconds, seemed to have served no purpose whatsoever and introduced a random character that was only ever going to be in one episode. Had he won a prize to be in Downton or something?

Surely they can't do another illegitimate baby story. Especially with the sister of the first one!

limitedperiodonly · 10/11/2014 11:27

Thomas has been duped twice - once by the black market conman and then by the quack doctor - and yet he instantly works out what Denker is up to, forms a cunning plan and turns out to have the card skills of a professional gambler.

Plus they got out of that dodgy place with their winnings without getting their heads kicked in.

And I'd have thought he'd prefer to spend an evening in London cruising St James's Park for a strapping guardsman.

SirChenjin · 10/11/2014 11:29

I wondered if the new boy was That Way also, and was planning to thank Thomas in kind - but it seemed not

YY to Rose's dress - it was gorgeous, but we didn't see nearly enough of it

BOFster · 10/11/2014 12:02

I think Edith may have been given the wrong baby. This is supposed to be Marigold when Rosamund visits, but looks more like a greasy Sybbie. The curly haired cherub of this episode is clearly a younger imposter.

hildasmuriel · 10/11/2014 12:11

fancyanotherfez had he won a prize to be in Downton? Love it.

If Mary was pregnant it might stop her being so blooming smug all the time. She drives me insane with her Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hair do. Edith is much prettier.

I actually had to check I hadn't missed an episode last night. Suddenly Isis was gone. The secret engagement of Rose and Atticus had moved to wedding stage and Isobel had cold feet.

Maybe the Christmas episode will suddenly be full of weddings. All of the above mentioned ones in one mass Downton hoorah!

I don't want Anna to hang but don't want Baxter to have done it as Mr Molesley deserves some happiness.

And I do like Sue Johnson as a drunk.

R4roger · 10/11/2014 12:22

i thought I had missed an episode too, i watched last weeks yesterday afternoon, and then last night's and then the afternoon one may have been from the week before ? Confused

i wasnt looking forward to watching it as the last one of the series is often sickly sweet and ties things up nicely, but this didnt.

BOFster · 10/11/2014 12:36

I caught a better screenshot here.

BOFster · 10/11/2014 12:48

The new, younger version.

QueenOfThorns · 10/11/2014 13:01

We still don't seem to be sure how Rose is related to anyone, except that it's through her nasty mother. It must be Lord G's side of the family, but where was Lady Rosamund in that case?

BOFster · 10/11/2014 13:07

I think Susan is his cousin, and he has done some military stuff with Shrimpy. That or given him a thrashing at public school, going by the nickname.

Does that make Rose a second cousin, or a cousin once removed?

Rosamund is the Dowager Countess's daughter (Lord Fatty's sister), I have always thought.

BOFster · 10/11/2014 13:11

Here we are- a Downton family tree. I see Marigold is actually a family name.

BOFster · 10/11/2014 13:18

Rose is Lord Grantham's first cousin once-removed, and she is the second cousin of Mary and Edith.

SirChenjin · 10/11/2014 13:21

BOF - that looks like the same child to me Confused. Have I watched too much Downton??

BOFster · 10/11/2014 13:24

One is dark and straight-haired and about 3, and the other is curly-haired, fair, and at least a year younger. Unless I'm going mad too. Who's got the braincell on the Downton thread this week?

SirChenjin · 10/11/2014 13:33

Your posts from 12.36 and 12.48 are linking to the same child, I'm sure of it Confused Grin

BOFster · 10/11/2014 13:35

Ach, the child actors are probably my twins and we are both right Grin

BOFster · 10/11/2014 13:36

Not MY twins! Heavens, no. I haven't got twins. DYAC.

SirChenjin · 10/11/2014 13:41
Grin
BOFster · 10/11/2014 13:45

Although having said that, I did spend some time in Europe to improve my French, so who knows..?
