I can't decide! MG for me veered between really good and really annoying. Loved her clothes tho. Is she in a relationship with the nanny?

have just caught up.

thought that the cia lady got out of the car boot with the money? or was it the countryside lady?

am still a bit confused but it's gripping.

SquidgyMummy · 02/08/2014 10:21

CIA woman was already dead in the previous episode. (Another hugo blick dead end character to add small facts to the story)

Car boot woman was the wife of the kidnapper who topped himself with syringe in hospital. she was paid hush money, and when she paid cash for the new car, that was how mustard jumper man tracked her down.

SquidgyMummy · 02/08/2014 10:27

Just thinking are there 2 lots of baddies? - as Kassim was whisked away on a motorbike from the park from the first baddie - or where they just a back-up team?

Spoiler alert:
I have seen the trailer for the American showing of THW, and it reveals a bit from later episodes, where atika is back in the Middle East. Also Maggie G said in an interview that they would shoot episodes out of sequence, so I am assuming that she is talking about the 8 year flashback in the ME when Kassim was born and also when she and Atika must head back to the ME for whatever reason.

I am now confused about the hairy jewish guy in Utrecht. Who the hell is he? (apart from leading poor computer scientist to his death.)

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/08/2014 10:32

Squidgy I've scrolled past your last post but perhaps it would be best not to post anything that might indeed spoil the show for UK viewers?

(I know I could simply not read the thread - but that's half the fun if watching!)

SquidgyMummy · 02/08/2014 10:44

OK Zero, won't post any spoilers, the US are actually just on episode 1, it was just me surmising based on a trailer

SquidgyMummy · 02/08/2014 23:05

Just re-watched episode 5.
I think Ephra spoke to the computer scientist; who said after speaking to the principal of the college that he was going to speak to nessa stein.
However, I think as Ephra is head of the Education Arm of Stein, he probably got through to him, and probably also mentioned the men listening in the computer room....

I think Samir Michal was bumped off by Monica's people to stop him finding the wire tap when he would have installed phase 3. However as Monica was also trying to discredit schlomo, I wonder who she did want to roll out phase 3?

OnlyLovers · 03/08/2014 16:40

Squidgy, the guy who turned up in the Rolls-Royce this episode? I don't know why though.

SquidgyMummy · 03/08/2014 17:52

*OnlyLovers" no, that was the guy who was sent by man on satellite phone, he said he was in a "very good position to bid for the contract". I am assuming he was in cahoots with whoever kidnapped Kassim.

(Cannot wait till next thursday - there is usually so much dross on during the summer i barely watch tv.)

OnlyLovers · 03/08/2014 18:57

But Monica could be in on that somehow, possibly? I've no idea how. Grin

Apollinare · 03/08/2014 20:21

That Atika - she's a bad 'un! I think she's the sister of the terrorist /rapist who had shagged Ephram 8 years ago to lure him to the West Bank checkpoint, when he didn't turn up, she shagged Nessa and talked her into going to Gaza and set up the kidnap. She is embedded in the Stein household, looking after her nephew and doing the bidding of the old man on dialysis.

Hows it going so far?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 03/08/2014 20:26

Apollinare Your'e making me Sad. I hope you're wrong....

BelleOfTheBorstal · 03/08/2014 22:52

ApolinaireI think that theory is entirely possible.
Why did Atika's tell Nessa that she owed Nessa?
Why did Nessa agree so readily to having Kassim raised as Atika's?
I am concluding from the phone call that Nessa had, where she said the secret is safe, that the main actual secret is not Kassim.
nd Ephra blatently knew about the 'positive' discrimination thing. And I don't think that Shlomo does know about the sniffer.

BelleOfTheBorstal · 03/08/2014 22:55

Also, poor Rachel, if and when this all comes out it is very likely to shake the very foundations of her world.
And we are not seeing enough of her in the past two episodes, she has gone from being a central character, to being on the sidelines, no fair!

mausmaus · 03/08/2014 23:03

is rachel te annoying malteser woman?
the way she speaks...
my guess is that rachel is a part of it. all this 'my daughters' talk.

Ninjabread · 03/08/2014 23:17

Nessa is in love with Atika, isn't she? So she's jealous of her brothers affair with her?

WalkingThePlank · 03/08/2014 23:36

Yes Rachel is the malteser lady.

I think she is the honourable woman and I can't help but wonder what the significance of her pregnancy is - what will happen to her baby?

BelleOfTheBorstal · 03/08/2014 23:58

The Malteser Lady? Have not a clue what you guys are referring to! Presumably related to an advert?

BelleOfTheBorstal · 03/08/2014 23:59

Ninja Bread yes to both of those!

onedev · 04/08/2014 00:14

Just rewatching it - hadn't realised she was the Malteser lady but totally see it now!!

Apollinare · 04/08/2014 08:33

Nessa agreed to Atika bringing up the baby is because - in the only bit of emotion MG has let pass her face - she is very ambitious and wanted to run the company. That bit after she spoke to the university students 8 years ago. Dont know what the secret is though, but agree, Nessa is not the Honourable Woman - she is too irritating

OnlyLovers · 04/08/2014 09:07

I don't think Nessa and Atika shagged, did they? I thought Nessa was just in love with Atika but it wasn't reciprocated.

Nessa agreeing to passing the baby off as Atika's is not ambition on its own, IMO, but the knowledge that her being known to have been raped by an Arab would be used politically by her enemies on both the Israeli and the Palestinian side. It would make her running the company unworkable, yes, but would also make the company itself non-viable in the end.

Atika thinks she owes Nessa because Nessa let herself be raped when Burnt Face Man threatened Atika.

LuckySaint · 04/08/2014 10:07

I love this programme.
I think Atika is definitely a double agent type/up to no good.

I think Schlomo is innocent. And when he said he did the jobs for love, he meant it and he's Nessa's secret father and/or was in love with her mum

Ephra knows about all the dodgy things, with the sniffer, the racism etc... he's been like a little lap dog, having to do as he was told since the soldier pay off.

Not sure what the secret is though Sad
But I did guess that Kassim was Nessa's and that there was a surveillance thing going on with the cables.

BelleOfTheBorstal · 04/08/2014 10:08

In regards to the owing that makes sense.
But as an intelligent women, surely you would have to consider alternatives in regards to Kassim.
They manage tu keep the fact that they.were kidnapped for the best part of a year a secret, there could have been alternative ways for Kassim belonging to Nessa a secret too!

LuckySaint · 04/08/2014 10:09

And I agree that Rachel is the honorable woman, but not sure if she'd shoot the father of her girls, so maybe she shoots the burnt face man.

BelleOfTheBorstal · 04/08/2014 10:10

Grr, last sentence should have read "there could have been alternative ways to keep Kassim being Nessa's a secret too'.
