What did you think of The Honourable Woman?

I can't decide! MG for me veered between really good and really annoying. Loved her clothes tho. Is she in a relationship with the nanny?

I think pretending Atika is his mother is the best, if not only, way of keeping it secret really. The only other thing I can think of is sending him away (school? or another family?), with Nessa visiting him, and that would be hard for her and presumably involve having to trust other people to keep it secret.

Saying Atika is his mother and having her as the nanny allows Nessa to keep him close, in plain sight as it were.

Oh, and I agree about Schlomo, he has some feeling for/bond with Nessa that we haven't been made fully aware of yet.

GlaikitFizzog · 04/08/2014 12:01

That would explain the odd casting of young nessa in the first episode, if her father wasn't her father. Do we know for sure her mother is dead?

Just a thought, could nessa's mum be the honourable woman? We know nothing about her, other than she died in childbirth.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/08/2014 12:16

Ooooh!

WipsGlitter · 04/08/2014 12:17

I'm growing increasingly suspicious of Attika.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/08/2014 12:25

Hmmm

Honourable:

Lauded / Lorded / Baroness

The Honourable Woman does such and such; the DisH Woman does such and that....

The Honourable Woman acts like this; the Honourable Man acts like that....

This woman allows "honour" in one aspect of her life to push her into extreme dishonour in other areas...

SquidgyMummy · 04/08/2014 15:14

yes i was wondering about Schlomo and Nessa's mum - hence the rather "tanned" looking young nessa.

I am wondering if the title is not ironic given that none of the women appear to be honourable.

I don't get monica apart from her wanting Stepehn Rea's job...

PittTheYounger · 04/08/2014 15:20

i DO think the whole thing to date could have been done in 2 episodes
WHY IS NO ONE SAD ABOUT KASIM?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/08/2014 15:44

Aaah... I'm not entirely sold on Shlomo as Nessa's real father - but it would be a brilliant counterweight to rapist's sickly father saying the baby would have "Stein" blood mixed with his blood.

I'm hoping there is something to find out about her mother though.

And of course there may be a secret about Rachel's "my daughters". Ephra had been sleeping with Atika but she obviously hadn't ever become pregnant with his child. What guarantee do we have that his daughters are in fact his?

mausmaus · 04/08/2014 16:08

I thought that the family line in jewish families is via the mother?
and who was the woman who killed nessa's father? is she the 'honorable woman'?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/08/2014 16:46

Confused Didn't we see a male waiter stab him with some tongs?

BelleOfTheBorstal · 04/08/2014 17:41

Eli Stein was indeed stabbed by a make waiter using some bread tongs. No women involved.

mausmaus · 04/08/2014 17:45

ah, ok.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/08/2014 17:51

Was a very pretty man....

He may have had a beard.

OnlyLovers · 04/08/2014 18:31

I think there's something to come about both Nessa's mother and Atika's parents. In telly land it's usually significant when someone is an orphan.

Pitt, I don' t think it's quite true that no one is sad about Kasim. Nessa can't appear too upset or it might look suspicious (that's assuming she isn't in on it). As for the others, I don't quite want to say 'life goes on', but you know what I mean – they're not just going to sit about weeping. It'd be dull TV apart from anything else. Grin

Apollinare · 04/08/2014 21:06

Nessa is pretty relaxed about the disappearance of her bodyguard - he was fighting her off but last episode she just shrugged off his absence.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/08/2014 21:12

Well... She cried while weird computer expert was telling her that Bloom had had dealings with Monica regarding Shlomo's file. I assumed simultaneously out of relief about Shlomo's innocence and guilt and grief over beautiful Mr Bloom.

WipsGlitter · 04/08/2014 21:14

I'm watching again. Nessa is reliant on Attika for translation. She could be telling her anything.

onedev · 04/08/2014 21:29

Love this thread as I have no idea what's going on so all the theories are great! Grin

WipsGlitter · 04/08/2014 22:01

Who's the bloke spying on Nessa?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 04/08/2014 22:04

Hugh's underling?

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 04/08/2014 23:17

Not reading not reading not reading
If anyone replies to me could they put jayne first so I don't read anything else please, thank you Smile

Anyone know why they've stopped putting it on iplayer? The last one is ep 3. Luckily I caught the last few but I've been waiting for the latest one to be put up and it hasn't

mausmaus · 04/08/2014 23:22

jayne all 5 episodes are on the i player. but there has been an update of the app, maybe you need to do that before you can watch?

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 04/08/2014 23:24

ah thank you
I'm looking on catch up tv on sky so not quite sure how to update that.
I'll try and get onto iplayer using another method

stinkingbishop · 05/08/2014 09:47

In Tellyland things chosen to highlight in the credits are also To Be Noted. The Jewish skull cap crashing to the floor at the birth party (sorry, don't know what they're called!) being a case in point.

Hm.

And Kassim means 'divided'. AND was the name of the unfortunate Samir's cable company.

(BTW Attika is honour).

Just saying...

I've got my eye on Monica. I do wonder whether it's her. Despite being an uber spook she is genuinely trying to achieve the impossible and bring peace, and recognises Nessa as her best option.

BelleOfTheBorstal · 05/08/2014 10:40

The name monica, means 'one with good advice'.
