I know what you mean stinkle tho I did basically love it by the end. I think they just left themselves a lot of work to do tying up all the plot lines, so it was a bit denser with less room for rollicking comedic action and wenching like normal.

I thought the Cardinal thing was a bit of a damp squid.

PC was announced as the new Dr Who at the beginning of August, if it's 8/9 months filming they must have known he wouldn't be able to return if a second series was made before they wrapped up the first one.

It was just a bit flat, are they just going to never mention this huge character in the Musketeers story again? Or do that thing they do in soaps when an actor has been sacked after being caught with their pants down and they send them to "Spain" and only mention them in passing, unless, he's going to return for a few bits in series 2.

I thought the Athos/Milady thing was a bit of a let down as well, they built it up into this huge great thing, with brooding, sullen leaning, fighting, kidnapping Constance, she killed his brother and burnt his house down and then he let her wander off

I loved it, but thought it was a bit blah at the same time, it didn't quite scratch my itch if you see what I mean.

Anyway, enough plot talk, back to wenching

Oooooooh I disagree about athos / milady...I thought that bit rocked, waaaaaay more tension, chemistry and interest than dog / connie I'm afraid. The way she kept having a pop at dog, after she thought athos had died, cos he wasn't living up to athos for her was ace. And their last few lines - "you know we will never be at peace until we are both dead" - positively Greek tragedy!!

Think of all the alternatives - and where it would've gone from there. The story is all about the characters. They can't die, disappear, explode etc in first series.

Cardinal will be back. As will Milady. As will Constance. The only question is, with what frequency. They will introduce new baddies, love interests, for new story lines.
