Come and join us bent over the chicken coop! We are here once again for our continued and most enojoyabke celebration of very VERY sexy men with beards dressed in leather.

We believe in sharing so there really is enough for everyone. We do, however, have a policy of only one at a time.

Not really...THE MORE THE MERRIER!

So get your swords off get your swords off honey. Shake it now now, get 'em off down town!

Part one

part two

part three

part four

part five

Oh I don't hold out hope for a third series. It's no Sherlock but it's good fun! The only people watching it are us and teenagers. But there are LOTS of us and LOTS of teenagers.

Then again again, look at Ripper Street. It dropped down to 4ish, they pulled the plug, there was outrage and now it's coming back. 5 million consistently really isn't bad actually considering. It's definitely got it's place and it's got it's following. It's much better than Atlantis, which I believe it was intended to be broadcast at the same time as. Doctor Who in one of the more recent series was receiving under 6 million in some of it's episodes.

I think when it started there was a lot riding on Capaldi so I think the 9million wouldn't have been so high had he have not been in it from the start!

Oh well that's Ok then!

Get the prosecco out

Sparklegeek · 18/03/2014 20:39

One comment I read was that it doesn't know whether it wants to be family/adult viewing & needs to come down one side or the other

MavisGrind · 18/03/2014 20:44

Evening all... I am not clicking on rude foodstuff links....I'm Blush enough as it is about my laptops history..

I don't think we'll get a third series either. As drama goes it is pretty bad (but not as bad as Atlantis) but there's much more to it then mere plot and characterisation. There's billowy shirts in at least two hot colours for one thing

HannahHorvath · 18/03/2014 20:49

Well maybe they will try to address any issues they think will make a difference.

I think if it was on earlier they'd get the numbers because more families could tune in.

It was a big risk in all honesty. I read an interview with director and he said they were trying to make it more adult, but without the ott sex and violence of so many recent shows, to set it apart and also encourage kids of a certain age. Being on, on a Sunday night doesn't help encourage the family viewing vibe either, for those parents who would let their kids watch it anyway.

So it seems they need to give in on one of those. More action, or on earlier.

As for critics. My critique of critics, is that most of them talk out of their arses. Not sure I've ever really read a review I agree with. I think the viewing public tends to do its own thing regardless of what is said.

AND as I did suggest in an earlier thread .. we need the geekwenches to come forwards and help us to hack into nationwide digital recorders/sky+ boxes, thus fixing viewing figures.

HannahHorvath · 18/03/2014 20:49

Yes SparkleGeek - precisely that!

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 18/03/2014 20:50

This probably sounds mental considering these threads, but I actually like that it's NOT adult viewing. Not really. No gore, not depressing, slightly cheesey at times, a little predictable but altogether really brilliantly fun and the only rudeness is left to the imagination of us wenches!

If you saw Dog with his bum exposed and trousers around his ankles giving Constance his one for all and all for one, it simply would not have the appeal that it does I don't think.

I think they wanted to compete with Selfridges but in doing so they've kind of lost some of the audience who might have really enjoyed it by putting it on way past bedtime on a Sunday night.

Foodstuffs are funny.
Can't see 3rd series myself, but prays/dreams/begs.

Sparklegeek · 18/03/2014 20:53

See, I can't actually see that it's rubbish as a drama

I'm sure I will be told that's because I'm being blinded by the totty but what's my DH & DS1 (15)'s excuses as they really like it too?!

HannahHorvath · 18/03/2014 21:04

I agree there's nothing wrong with it. I can see exactly what and why the director was going for.
I'm so fed up with tits and arses everywhere. And the violence! I stopped watching Goats of Lizard after first 10 mins because it was just ridiculous. I can't watch that kind of senseless gore.

I agree totally that less is more, in the reveal of bodies, sex etc.
It makes it haaaawwwt. And although we can get fairly graphic on here, I actually like the innocent, with just enough to leave you wanting effect.

I think they should change the night to Saturday. Or at least put it on earlier on the Sunday.

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 18/03/2014 21:09

Also though keep in mind it's not yet been broadcast in America, and they will no doubt devour it which will boost production. I think it's going out there in a few months from now. There is also a good chance it's how it is BECAUSE they knew America were getting it.

OP posts:
MavisGrind · 18/03/2014 21:09

I agree Hannah, it should be on a Saturday. That way I can have a couple of glasses of wine without having to think about Monday Morning stuff and enjoy the stuff and nonsense.

Now, I realise I'm being a bit of a part time wench but knackeredness has descended again so I'm off for another early night. I will be back on wine form later in the week (hopefully)

Night all. Hope you're feeling better Hannah!

Sparklegeek · 18/03/2014 21:10

Surely putting it on earlier means we get less perving than now though? Can Aramis have his trews mid-thigh at 8pm? Can he? Can he? Hell no, can't take that risk.

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 18/03/2014 21:13

My guilty pleasure is lying in front of Saturday night tv like a big brainless jelly splat with the lights on and no one home. It's like my favourite hobby. Musketeers is perfect for these requirements! Although with the kids around Mr. dressing gown would only have disappointment.

Come ON America!! Get onboard the wenches minibus wagon!

LetUsPrey · 18/03/2014 21:15

Didn't My Family have around 153414 series? I don't think that was particularly well-loved by the critics. May be wrong.

Going back to Philip Glenister, I wouldn't but speaking from the point of view of the show, do you think he'd make a good baddie?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/03/2014 21:16

I think the critics have just decided that it is trendy to hate it, because it isn't slit-your-wrists-depressing Scandinavian angst.

The Beeb wouldn't have commissioned another series if they hadn't made money from it, and it is exactly the kind of thing which will sell well around the world.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/03/2014 21:18

I'm really interested to see whether they are going to get another actor to play Richlieu, or whether they kill him off in some way and get a totally new character in.

HannahHorvath · 18/03/2014 21:21

Can't see why not Sparkle. To a child he's just a man getting dressed/undressed before rushing off to the important rescue/sword fight scene. Do they even notice if a woman is nearby? Grin

I think most of the risqué stuff, is only that because of the adult's interpretation. I'm not sure most kids that young would actually think anything of it other than probably boring.

My dd just says yuk and puts her hands over her eyes if there is a kiss.
She's far more interested in the horses, explosions and gun fights.

Sparklegeek · 18/03/2014 21:23

I think I'm overthinking so it's probably best if I stop.

I'll stick to googling pictures.

It will be interesting to see though what sort of changes they make. As long as they keep in the sweeping everything off the kitchen table & frantic undoing of weapons, then happy days.

Sparklegeek · 18/03/2014 21:26

How does Waterloo Road get away with it?! Although I suspect it might be lower budget than Musketeers Grin

LetUsPrey · 18/03/2014 21:27

I agree with whichever poster suggested several threads back that they should do two versions: one at about 8pm, and then a late night episode. I have a plot idea all ready for them and I'm willing to help with acting, body make up for any/all of the musketeers, hair for Aramis, dressing/undressing Aramis, etc, etc

Sparklegeek · 18/03/2014 21:35

That's what I love about MN. Selfless, LetUs

HannahHorvath · 18/03/2014 21:43

I think Richelieu will escape with his life after his involvement with the Queenie plot or whatevs he's up to. Then we will hear about him from a distance. Much the same as we do of other characters now.

There were lots of baddies in the cartoons. Just get watching them on YouTube. Use your dcs to do research for you. Grin

I think the budget to make it is where the question of its success lies. Apparently a third of the budget was used on candles . In same interview the director mentioned that the set was built to last between series. He expected it to survive for 3. Not sure if that is significant or not? They also chose Czech because of tax breaks.

So yeah, hurry up America and luuuuuurrrrrve it. They will love Athos and Richelieu the most I think. The voices. Although they'll probably like Porthos and his 'ello guvna, too.

In fact you can all get on your knees and kiss Athos' leather clad bottom, because he will be the saviour.

But then we'll have totes lost them to all those Yankee biatches Grin

Our pasty arsed looks are not going to compete with the sun drenched babes of Hollywood are they?

I hope it fails. I hope they cancel series.

IceBeing · 18/03/2014 21:47

you must be kidding....when they're from, a tan is a sign of coarseness and low breeding.....

we will be pasty and interesting and superior...oh yes we will....
