how do you solve a problem like maria

does anyone know why emily, the gobby one, no longer is appearing in the final 10 line up for the live shows? she seems to have been replaced by siobhan, the gorgeous one who blew it by having a cold all week. I liked emily!

Preacher man girl was Meliz btw. I thought she was good. Connie is by far the most suitable but she is annoying isn't she? DD1 loves Siobhan.

Helena is a local girl apparently so I'm supposed to be voting for her (so the evening paper said anyway)
I think Connie is the best one there - by miles - but I think she sort of knows it and that may not win the popular vote. I was surprised Belinda is out - thought it would be Abi

Abi's weak.

Connie has a voice that lasts and lasts, day in and day out.

And that's SO necessary for a musical of that level.

Her voice is mature.

Again, a REAL bonus.

She can act as well.

People don't realise, a lead has to be able to carry that out day after day AND really act.

There are no 'takes' when you're performing live on stage.

It's not a pop singer.

This is the real business.

As for her being a prima donna, well, it's gonna take some pretty big cojones to get up and act that brilliantly w/Andrew Lloyd Weber sitting 5 feet away from you as your private audience.

Another Connie fan here: she's the only one who really stands out to me as having star quality. Her interpretation of Shout was brilliant, she can act, she looks right for Maria (ok maybe a little older than ALW would've liked) - brilliant!

Yes - we like Connie too - it seems like a foregone conclusion that she'll win. We also like Leanne a lot, but it's becoming more and more obvious that she really hasn't got the experience to do it - the acting bit really showed that up, unfortunately.

agree that the acting bit showed a lot of them up. That's why ALW said he chose Melize over Belinda (even though IMO, Belinda sang better).
Aoife was good in the acting bit as well.

I love the programme but I hate how they have to wear those godawful "maria" outfits at the end, they are so horrible. And are they really going to make them sing so long, farewell every week? Cringe.

So is the argument over Simona's accent more about the fact that she could be hard to understand on stage?
Rather than ooh yuk a foreign Maria?
I rather like her for both reasons
She is far too talented as an actress to be in theatre she should be in movies, she is made for art house cinema.
Connie is the best. I am not particularly enamoured of her personally, but for the job, she is the best.
