...in the Archers?

Or is it just my devious mind?

I think that Sam should get over his Ruth attraction (perhaps see her in the nude as she is bound to have stretch marks etc) run off with the doleful Emma and Ruth can then throw herself in the Am. This would get rid of some of the most annoying characters in one go and keep up the statistics for unlikely deaths, adultery etc.
I would like to get rid of Shula too, but will think about that one (she can always fall off her horse).

Maybe Debbie will die in a car crash, and Brian (in a desperate state of grief) will turn to whatshername - Sinead? (mother of Rory)

I'm so pleased to have found this thread! None of my friends in RL listen!

Something is brewing with Helen (Archer, daughter of Pat & Tony) and she has always been a misery even before dear Greg shot himself and she went anorexic. Possible next death?

Lived in Hungary for a year but have mainly lived in Borsetshire wannabe Dorsetshire. But yes life is like Ambrideg sometimes. With the only gays in the village, sex changes, people pregnant and hoping that husband is father etc

Oooh I do hope the producers are reading this and stealing our plot ideas! I was wondering about Helen too, they have some stunningly annoying female characters on there! Why oh why is it such compulsive listening?

There are plenty to choose from..but who gets you twitching to throw the radio in the sink?

Shula for me followed by Jill Archer. Shula, because I know she had good reasons to be annoyed with Alistair, but she's crushed the poor bloke. Jill because she's one of those people who sounds completely out if it with her innocent/loaded remarks.

Note to self..
Get out more/it's only pretend/get out more/ it's only...

Only in the Archers would they make rosti out of the potatoes. Personally I would have deep fat fryed them.

I was shouting Aunt Bessies frozens at the radio!

How cruel, making poor old Ruth cook dinner for the ex though. What a rotten family!

Yes, but in annoying-and-totally-improbable plot scenario stakes, I don't know which is the more clunkingly obvious, the David/Sophie/Ruth/Sam love rectangle or the cringingly awful Brenda fixation with Tom Archers sausage (s).

I reckon that Ruth is going to get pissed off with Mad Sophie hanging breathily around Deeevid, while Deeevid remains doltishly impervious to Ruth's pissed-offness and Sophie's awful simpering, so Ruth confides in Sam, who misreads the situation and makes an embarrassing lunge in the cowsheds. Just as Kirsty walks in...

Meanwhile, Tom and his eponymous sausage empire goes from strength to strength while Brenda gloats noisily in the (not-so-distant ? unfortunately) background.

In fact I'd put a tenner on it.

"who gets you twitching to throw the radio in the sink?" - hmmm, t'would be a close run thing between Debbie and Emmmurrrr.

I don't know why Tamzin Greig continues to do TA (except to annoy us )

I want to throw different people in the sink at different times. Sid Perks is usually a prime candidate but even he has tolerable moments. Adam is almost permanently petulant. Shula is often (but not always) a sanctimonious cow. Linda can be infuriating but has a heart of gold (shades of cod there!)

Oliver is sound (unusually for an Ambridge male). Kenton has been fab for ages so must be due an irritating spell. Phil makes me want to knock him down.

My Oscar for the most infuriating moments over a period of about 20 years goes to Kate though

Actually, I don't mind Debbie (am I totally alone?) Although I was really tempted to throw the radio sinkwards over the epsode with her Canadian cardigan-wearing bearded ex-husband who was almost definitely the worst member of the archers cast ever invented.

No, my personal award for the Archers shield of nausea-evoking irritatingness probably goes to Shula, closely followed by Smug Jill, Pious Phil, Wet Alister and Whinging Adam (actually, that's rather a lot, isn't it?)

On the other hand, my top fave is definitely Lillian, with her never-empty gin glass, closely followed by Jenny and Brahn (especially when he has his dalliances).

The kids are universally awful imo.

Ooh, I'd forgotten Kate.

And yes, I do rather like Oliver, especially when he enunciates Jazzer's name in that plummy voice of his.

Or..or..overgrown schoolboy Nigel ('mummie') and matron Lizzie.

Oh yes, and sulky Adam being coaxed round by adoring Jenny. I'd chuck 'em all in the sink, but I love the Archers.

My mother had lunch the other day with 'Shula' and 'Brine' and asked about Ruth and Sam, 'Shula's' reply was that the scriptwriting really isn't that subtle is it with a rueful smile. She refused to divulge anymore secrets. By the way the actress who plays Sophie also played Janet the vicar, just as a really unuseful poeace of info.

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 09/09/2006 17:56

I wish they'd brought Sophie back before Janet left and given them a conversation

sophiewd!!!! - how does your mother know them... ??? talk about glamourous (for me that is!... well just lunch out without kids is!!!)

i think they're building it up into a huge pot of green envy and then there'll be a huge make up session... with poor sam looking on forlornly at the rpsy marriage of david and ruth...

off topic... is anyone else infuriated that they don't offer the archers as a podcast.... i love the listen again facility on radio 4 and as teh archers is always on at bedtime.... i usually miss it but do mamange to catch up on sunday and on the listen again... however i love listening to it whilst pottering around in the kitchen and in the car (which i could do is it was on a podcast)but can't as the computer is in here... so i always manage to find an excuse to be in here (where the computer is stationed!) so i can catch up (usually a whole pile of ironing!)_
sorry for waffling on.......

ps... does anyone else think emma is just a wet blanket and leave poor old ed alone!!!

My dad is patron of Hamshire Cricket CLub and one of the committee members is good friends with Shula and Brine who are a couple in real life. Also Roy owns a pub in Ringwood. We are a sad family with an even sadder group of friends as when we all get together we talk about TA as if it was the next door village

Report
Frieda · 09/09/2006 19:11

Yes, yes ? re Emma. She's irritated me for a long time. And I'm gobsmacked about Sophie being Janet's alter-ego!

Thanks for that inside info, sophiewd - am I right that Shula and Brine are married to each other in RL? So does your mum know them socially, then?

And, TinyGang, how can you take seriously a nearly fifty-year-old man who talks about "mummie"? Though agree Kenton sounds sexy in a rougue-ish sort of way.

It was Sinead with me I couldn't/can't stand her voice! I cringe whenever she's on the radio, worried that she's single again and that they might bring her back full time
