I don't think he would have actually had to stay in bed for the entire 40 years, just not leave the building. He would only have to be in the bed when it was time to die - and presumably to sleep.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/09/2012 22:17

yes yes yes that's exactly it, the dying... of course he doesn't liek that. but for river to say that about getting old... yuck. my lovely doctor (whoever is playing him) imo wouldn't even notice aging, i think. but for sure it can't be nice that his pals have a shorter age span than him. like us, and our pets. Grin it offended me to think the doc would be like us disliking our beloved border collie just because its eyesight went.

cakebot · 29/09/2012 22:21

MS takes River to the singing towers, according to the S6 DVD extras. In SitL, River said she called her Doctor, but it all went wrong and she got DT instead. I reckon they are jumping around instead of going directly opposite. Otherwise it makes no sense. They would never be able to compare notes. I like to think her last date with The Doctor is with the one who loves her rather than a virtual stranger.

edam · 29/09/2012 22:29

If they are talking about wrinkles, Matt Smith looks a LOT older than he did when he first became the Doctor. Maybe it's make up artists emphasizing fine lines but it's a flipping cheek if his Doctor objects to wrinkles in his companions.

Still, at last the Doctor has got rid of Amy (who I found quite irritating) so that's a bonus. Sad about Rory, though he was lovely.

And all this 'can't go back and rescue them, fixed point in time' stuff - he could have gone back the day after the one he lost them, surely? Or the day after that?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/09/2012 22:32

yes, or DT could have popped in to visit them after solving the dalek pig people problem...

KayHarker · 29/09/2012 22:36

Well, I dislike Amy intensely, but I cried, as did my girls. Not going to think about it too har,and I'm not inspired to fanfic it, but I enjoyed it.

edam · 29/09/2012 22:37

dh got a bit tearful, bless him.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/09/2012 22:43

i have another question, btw. surely the doctor has already picked amy up, in terms of his timeline and hers, so what was with amelia sitting in the garden?

ExitPursuedByJKR · 29/09/2012 22:43

Ahem - do you not think that perhaps you all, you know, over think this?

But having said that, didn't River first turn up in a library somewhere, and then die?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/09/2012 22:46

Shock how rude. Grin

Who? Moi?

Not nearly as climactic as i thought it was going to be, but a fairly fitting ending for KG & AD. Liked the fact that there were nods to them BOTH having waited for each other, and to the fact that Rory dies SO often. (I'm sure we referenced that back in the last series- how significant it is that Rory keeps dying and coming back) .

I also LOVE the idea that the reason the lights have flickered in the whole series so far is because somewhere out there, on what ever planet, in whatever time line.. the angels have been chasing Rory.

I think Moffat CAN do a decent story arc - see last series where there were lots of hints to the Dr needing Amy to remember things that all got explained at the end. It's just that THIS series, he hasn't done it nearly as well. Or maybe it's just that you lot overthink it to such a degree that i've been led to expect a far MORE convoluted plot that the one we just got!!!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/09/2012 22:55

or... maybe we're only half-way through the story arc?

yeah, i agree, i think he does story arcs well. but then i like an arc. some people really prefer standalones.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/09/2012 22:57

oh and while we're all here, can i just raise a glass in the hopes that this will have been the last time we ever heard the phrase 'raggedy man'? it just Never. Caught. On, did it? got on my tits every time.

true true... and let's face it... the River Song story arc has been blooming YEARS in the making. If it hadn't been for those pesky spoilers I think we'd all have bee a ton more impressed when she turned out to be little Amelia Pond's baby!

Arcadie · 29/09/2012 22:59

Aitch Wine "Down with the Raggedy man"

RustyBear · 29/09/2012 22:59

Amelia was sitting in the garden the night she first met him, waiting for the doctor to do a quick 5 minute trip to the moon and back to run the TARDIS engines in. But he apparently overran a bit and turned up 12 years later, which was when Amy hit him with a baseball bat.

However, in a later episode - it was after the Doctor reset the universe and was wiped from history by the crack, until Amy brought him back by believing in him- we saw Amelia sitting on her suitcase waiting and heard the sound of the TARDIS, and she smiles - just like the clip at the end today. But then we see Amy waking up in bed on her wedding morning and the implication was that it was just a dream. Now of course, we know the Doctor did come back and told Amelia the story of Amy....

Arcadie · 29/09/2012 22:59

LaQueen Wouldn't you???

Tears all round here. No surprise that it was the Ponds last ep, either due to the publicity or the heavy hints in the last epidsode or two and at the start of this one too.

DD1 sobbed long and hard when Rose was written out. Tonight there was a cry of "How can they make it so emotionable?" Grin

Lots of tears too from DD2 (8) who tried to pretend that she wasn't crying due to the TV, but because "my nose hurts!" Bless.

Tears from me too. I'm excited to see the new companion though.

KayHarker · 29/09/2012 23:03

Oh Rusty, you've made me cry again.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/09/2012 23:04

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh.

and reading back this thread, i asked about the blue notebook, because i've always wondered why River didn't use the info contained therein to go searching for her parents.

someone answered that it was empty, waiting to be filled up by river. oh yes, thinks i, what was i on about?

and now i have finally remembered. isn't the blue book the same one that DT/john smith filled up with drawings of his dreams in family of blood? i've always aassumed it was, because of that line in the library where she says that she#s got pictures of all his faces?

so wouldn't it have been handed over with that info?

KayHarker · 29/09/2012 23:06

Nope Aitch, fraid not - The Jounal of Impossible things was different, it had a brown cover. If that's what yu're talkng about.
