I have been waiting for this for a very long time! :-)

OP posts:

I like that River can boss the Doctor rather than all the companions who are still learning.

teejwood · 29/09/2012 21:43

Ohhh - good point about the placenames Glaikit so do we think all the bloody christmas references were pointing to Winter Quay being significant, or to the xmas episode?

Or just to hack us off?

SESthebrave · 29/09/2012 21:43

Does anyone not heart River? I want to be her!

i remembered the line i hated... that one where she tells her own mother not to age cos the doc doesn't like change.

when has that ever been evidenced?

teejwood · 29/09/2012 21:48

visual the first old man was the detective
the second was Rory

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/09/2012 21:48

also, the girl and the old woman watching the building. were they inside winter quay and therefore just angel fuel, or outside? i had originally thought outside...

teejwood · 29/09/2012 21:50

Aitch there have been lines about companions getting older etc - it's just a more OTT version of that sentiment. He said it to Rose, pretty much. And in Sarah Jane, pretty much. And the comment about Rory and Amy fading from him.

teejwood · 29/09/2012 21:51

should specify - the SJA episode "Death of the Doctor"

SoupDragon · 29/09/2012 21:53

I thought the doctor had often complained about having to watch people getting older and not him.

Although how can he hate change when he undergoes a total body transplant on a regular basis?

SoupDragon · 29/09/2012 21:54

When was Toddler River in New York? Was it NY she was in?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/09/2012 21:55

well of course they get older, but is that seen as such a negative? what did he actually say? i was really pissed off by the idea that he needs some nubile young diddy at his side, and beware the crow's feet.

the dt doc seemed not to notice SJ having aged (at least not in a disparaging manner), wasn't it all 'my sarah jane!' etc?

teejwood · 29/09/2012 21:56

Pretty sure she was in NY when she regen-d Soup - that would have been 1970 if it was supposed to be 6 months after the moon landing?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/09/2012 21:56

exactly soupdragon, he LOVES change. it's practically his thing. it seems to me it's not aging he loathes so much as stagnation.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2012 21:58

I don't think he likes those he loves getting old and dying whilst he goes on though.

teejwood · 29/09/2012 21:59

Aitch the implication is he he can't bear the loss - and he has had so many. It's not that they can't run quick enough or don't look young enough.

With River I think it is worse - because he knows exactly how old she looks when she dies. River probably has picked up on the discomfort, but not the particular reason in her case.

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 29/09/2012 21:59

Those angels are bloody scary.

I cried. I thought it was brilliant.

We do have to fill in a lot of the gaps though. That can be good or bad depending upon your POV..

teejwood · 29/09/2012 22:02

visual rory did make a bit of a habit of dying, to be fair.

Does anyone think River is going to die in between now and christmas, off screen? She is out of prison and a professor. I thought it was a lovely episode, a real love story between Amy and Rory, as well as some really tender moments between the Doctor and River, which we haven't really seen before.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2012 22:12

But then how was there room for Rory in Bed as well? Or were there lots of rooms with beds? Maybe I am being too literal here

It was a whole apartment block of beds.
