Anyone watching the first episode of the second series tonight?

I love this programme. It's fascinating,if often heartbreaking. You see the best and the worst of people.

I hope the nurse is still in it.I can't remember her name, but she's fantastic, and was the main nurse featured in the first series.

That is lovely. I had no idea they did that. That's made my throat ache Sad

Clawdy · 23/05/2012 21:57

Oh dear, maybe he is a bit too sensitive....

PennieDreadful · 23/05/2012 21:58

Aw, go Destiny Grin

Sirzy · 23/05/2012 21:58

I dont think you can be to sensitive as a Dr, I think its nice to see a doctor who really cares.

WithACherryOnTop · 23/05/2012 21:59

I don't think he's too sensitive.I think if a death doesn't affect you in some way then you shouldn't be in the job. Not every death will have quite the same impact,.but it seemed like a very human and very proportionate response.

How awful that she miscarried 3 weeks later. How unfair.

I can tell that next week is going to be heartbreaking. That elderly couple have me welling up already.

Clawdy · 23/05/2012 22:00

Yeah,think you are both right...

kat1885 · 23/05/2012 22:01

Poor lady miscarried 3 weeks later :( how cruel life can be, in a way would have been "better" while she was there as she was fully expecting it to have happened.

eyestightshut · 23/05/2012 22:02

I think I love him - he's great!

petalpower · 23/05/2012 22:19

Just watched poor doctor Matt crying - it must be so hard not to be affected by what you see. When my Mum died in hospital one of the two nurses who came to us in the family room looked as if she had been crying. I always wonder what ahe saw to make her upset and it is now 5 years on Sad .

MissMogwi · 23/05/2012 22:30

Just watching this now. How 'effin big was that fish bone!!

gasman · 23/05/2012 23:52

A diversion.

The current thinking is that we shouldn't write RIP or equivalent when we confirm death due to it's Christian traditions. Despite being a rabid non-believer I still write it though....

Patients do get to us and sometimes you do cry but most of us try not to allow relatives to see us crying. Crying doesn't' always mean something terrible though - sometimes a quiet peaceful death of a patient you have known for a long time can be very moving.

Now try to imagine dealing with something truly shit and then having to go back and face a waiting room full of irate people who are all worked up about not being seen (because all the staff have been tied up dealing with horrible thing). Next time you are kept waiting in A&E remember that.

I was once involved in a really bad do over Christmas in A&E. My colleagues and I decided to have a coffee before we tackled the waiting room as we were all upset only to be disturbed by some bloke coming along and screaming at us that we were lazy cows, he was waiting, he pays our wages so could we get off our fat arses and do some work. I don't think I will ever forget that.

I experienced one even more gob-smacking that that Gasman, several years ago.
Busy Monday morning in A and E, waiting room full of people returned from weekend to undergo X-rays etc, plus new patients.
Several people standing at waiting room doors, smoking (I did say years ago!) waiting for their names to be called.
We noticed some staff on a ward opposite us waving through the windows and gesticulating wildly (why they didn't phone us, God only knows).
Next thing, we became aware of flames rising up among the grass verge outside the waiting room doors.
Someone pressed the fire alarm and it was chaos and bedlam as people descended on us from all quarters.
At the same time, an ambulance pulled in, blue lights flashing and a gent jumped out the back wearing only his underpants and covered in hot bitumen which he'd knocked over when he fell while sealing a roof.
The admin staff ran through the waiting room dragging the fire hose behind them to start to tackle the blaze as the fire engine pulled up. At that exact moment, a chap got up from the front row and stopped the Charge Nurse to ask " Can you tell me what the hold-up is and why I'm being kept waiting?".
Charge Nurse was a patient man but he nearly lost it that day.

I have a friend who is a student nurse at Kings and we are waiting for her to appear as she was doing a stint in A&E for some of the time they were recording. She said she was around for the boy with the fish bone but didn't appear on film.
Apparently the boy was really cute but the fish bone was really tiny!
I commented that Dr Matt came across really well and she said that he is really popular as he relates really well to the patients and will just get on with the job with no airs and graces of "Well I'm a Dr"!

Hoping we might see her on screen at some point!

Anyone watching tonight? It's starting now on Channel 4. I have a feeling that the elderly couple are going to have me in floods of tears.

SESthebrave · 30/05/2012 21:00

Yes - just switched on

Schnarkle · 30/05/2012 21:10

The opening sequence brought on the tears there [hormonal]. This isn't going to be pretty Wine

SESthebrave · 30/05/2012 21:14

Numerous stab wounds from a screwdriver :(
I know it happens but that seemed really nasty.

WithACherryOnTop · 30/05/2012 21:19

It certainly is.I'll never understand how people can plunge a weapon into another person's body like that, and apparently feel nothing for their victim.
