Anyone watching or am I all alone?

Was posting on the other thread but wondered if people might have been put off by the title thinking it was only for speculation.

From an interview with the writer:

HitFix: Also on the subject of lingering post-finale questions... There was a lot of "mole" talk this season, but no resolution. Were Saul's suspicions wrong?

Alex Gansa: Two things I'd say about that: One is that we were very conscious of... And this was before the response to the whole "mole" issue. People started suspecting Saul and Estes and "Oh my God, could it be Carrie, herself? Is she a schizophrenic?" All of this stuff. There's a lot of speculation about the mole. And as you know, revealing moles was a huge trope on "24" and Howard and I both worked on "24" I only worked on "24" for the last two seasons, but Howard worked on "24" from the beginning and we were very conscious from the beginning of the series, even when it was just an idea in our heads, that we were not going to follow in "24's" footsteps. Carrie Mathison never pulls a gun all season long. And the idea of "revealing the mole" as being one of this series, one of the "Homeland" series tropes was something we avoided. The other thing is that oftentimes, you never know who the mole is. Believe me, there are plenty of moles in the intelligence community, not just in the United States, but in all intelligence agencies, who have never been revealed and who are still in place. That struck us as a much more interesting and realistic portrayal of that idea.

diddl · 07/05/2012 15:40

"someone who knew about the meeting with the Saudi diplomat."

So, who else was involved other than Saul & Carrie?

I don´t think that the mole is David, I think he´s just been on edge because of his drone involvement.

difficultpickle · 07/05/2012 15:41

Not sure I could stand watching another series in the knowledge that we never find out who the mole is. It actually puts me off watching if that is really their intention.

garlicbutty · 07/05/2012 15:41

Oh, no! They're not going to tell us? Shock Oh, the pain!!

reveals nothing, just asks the questions we've been asking.
diddl · 07/05/2012 15:44

WHAT-no mole solution??!!

What´s the point of series 2 then?

Will Carrie find out the truth?

Is Brody bad or good-isn´t that the same as series 1??!!

LeBOF · 07/05/2012 15:45

I think that as the intelligence department is massive, there might be more than one mole. I don't mind not knowing. As long as it's not Saul Grin

Which it isn't, because the writers seem very big on building characters and not having them behave in ways which aren't rooted in that, just for the sake of a twist. So I don't think Saul is a baddie.

cybbo · 07/05/2012 15:46

What is on instead now on Sunday nights? PLEASE God not interminable Scrubs repeats

LeBOF · 07/05/2012 15:48

I think we need a spin-off show where Carrie and Virgil go rogue and solve mysteries from his van Grin

teahouse · 07/05/2012 15:48

I am missing Homeland already...can't wait for the next series.

WhereAreTheCakes · 07/05/2012 15:51

Everyone raving about the performance of Claire Danes - can't think of a better actress myself. Amazing. But I'm also taking hat off the Damian Lewis - incredible acting when his daughter on the phone making him promise to come home.

Now want to know

  1. Where is the vest?
  2. Who has his filmed confession?
  3. Who is the mole? - though I suspect we won't find out as it's convenient to have twists in the story through mole leaks.
garlicbutty · 07/05/2012 16:07

I'd love your spin-off, LeBof!

Hassled · 07/05/2012 17:20

There can't be too many recycling facilities for exploding vests around the place. And not the sort of thing you can dump in your neighbour's bin.

I'll have a complete hissy fit if Season 2 doesn't tell us who the mole is. It will take us into pointless Lost territory, and I'll lose the love.

teahouse · 07/05/2012 17:33

The vest he must have either continued to wear when he came out of the building, and has hidden at home somewhere (you never know when a suicide vest will come in useful). They would have found it otherwise.

He filmed himself with the confession in that garage and I guess the camera must still be there.

The mole - keep wondering if it isn't Saul but I can't see that he'd put Carrie at risk. Could it be the guy who knew about the drone attack and played Saul the film of the strike order being given? It doesn't seem likely as his conscience wasn't overly pricked by that. I don't think there can be a mole because the things that were 'moled' could have been done by Brady (razar blade notably).

Fantastic casting. Want the DVD set now!!!!

Finbar · 07/05/2012 17:48

I may have missed something somewhere - BUT what happened to the woman who went off to Mexico? The one who moved it to the house near the airport? I remember Saul going to pick her up and bring her back and interview her on the car journey
Was that story just left?

I have missed something haven't I?!

difficultpickle · 07/05/2012 18:16

LeBof Carrie and Virgil could get a couple of their friends to join them, maybe a dog called Scooby as well. Grin

I think Mexico woman is probably in jail as she wasn't going to co-operate.

Frontpaw · 07/05/2012 18:31

I havent seen it but the English guy with the red hair must be a baddie, doesn't he?

prayingmantisgroupie · 07/05/2012 18:50

The lady with Saul (Aileen) did co-operate, she ID'd Tom Walker as the sniper who'd been to the house by the airport. They didn't say what happened to her after that though. Wasn't she being held on various charges?
Loved last night's episode, whole serious has been A1 from start to finish. Can't wait for Season 2!

Flubba · 07/05/2012 19:05

The thing with the film of Brody now likely to be in Nazir's hands means that it'll stay out of public view, for now at least. Nazir thinks Brody's going to be influential with the next president of the US, so it won't be useful to get the video aired. Bit frustrating really as I really want Brody to pay for it.

How good was Brody's shitting-himself acting?!

Bit annoying that nobody could see that he was bulked up with a thousand bullets strapped to him, but apart from that, absolute genius.

cocolepew · 07/05/2012 19:07

The vest could be in his lock up where he filmed himself.

prayingmantisgroupie · 07/05/2012 20:38

*series, obviously.

HalleLouja · 07/05/2012 20:53

Virgil was so lovely. They would make a good undercover partnership. He was really sweet with her - making her food and letting her borrow the van.

PoppadumPreach · 07/05/2012 20:57

is it just me or did anyone else think that Saul was the double of <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/470000/images/_472256_shipman300.jpg&imgrefurl=news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/special_report/1999/10/99/the_shipman_trial/472256.stm&h=180&w=300&sz=12&tbnid=sjcn_dLb17KRoM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=150&zoom=1&docid=u5fGIdOKUFT_aM&sa=X&ei=zyioT--oCumQ0AXH5vGSBA&ved=0CIQBEPUBMAQ&dur=4" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Harold Shipman? Freaked me out...

v disappointing ending though - clearly designed for a second series.

Bue · 07/05/2012 21:02

I don't understand why people still think Saul is bad? He so obviously isn't! Confused

That was a good, and simultaneously terrible, ending. I really, really don't appreciate Lost-style cliffhangers that go on for 5 years... Angry

permaquandry · 07/05/2012 21:04

Can I join in? I absolutely loved it and cant wait for series 2. It made my Sunday nights much more exciting! My theory is that Brodie and Carrie will get together again in some way, and she'll be reinstated in the CIA after having the shock treatment. Does anybody know when series 2 will be shown? Grin

diddl · 07/05/2012 21:08

Yes I think Brodie will get her back in-especially as she knows that Nazir went quiet for a time.
