Posted on the X Factor thread, but it is so lovely, it deserves a thread of it's own.

And in case you are wondering who the singer is, and how Morrissey could have agreed to such a thing-

article here

But in the New year it's all package holidays and 'Sale starts Boxing Day' type ads. Even more depressing. Sad

akaemmafrost · 12/11/2011 21:04

A lot of comments on here about kids not staying in bed till 8 on Christmas day. Mine do, they are 8 and 5 and I am generally up before them on the day. Seems I am very lucky then.

NigellaTufnel · 12/11/2011 21:16

surely the boy throwing the ball is from the Great Escape?

Any idea about the hand on the knee though? Can't remember...

TheBolter · 12/11/2011 21:31

Yeah I really liked it when I saw it for the first time earlier. Agree the pile of presents at the end of his bed is too big though. Especially for a miserable bugger like him - kind of lets the ad down.

Anyway - Littlewood's marketing team should take note!

Love the original song - I'm a fan of The Smiths - but I think I like the cover even more!

TheBolter · 12/11/2011 21:41

Actually having just seen it again three more times I think I judged it too harshly re the presents - the pile's not as bad as I first thought!

StealthPenguin · 12/11/2011 21:44

This advert lies.

No way would a child still be asleep at 8am on Christmas Day!!

MenopausalHaze · 12/11/2011 21:44

Well! I've just been through the wringer with this ad! Even given that I will weep uncontrollably if the sky is the wrong colour blue at the moment this has really taken the biscuit!

Not sure I could put myself through watching it again!

FlouncyMcFlouncer · 12/11/2011 21:57

I just noticed the Bridget Jones reference - that's a bit rude!

StealthPenguin · 12/11/2011 22:04

Oooh, what Bridget Jones reference?! I keep watching it but I can't see one!

LaTristesse · 12/11/2011 22:07

I'm blaming the hormones, but I loved it, made me blub too...and I'm a Smiths fan.

cunexttuesonline · 12/11/2011 22:17

I don't like it.

I don't like how he has a face like a smacked arse all the way through december.

I don't like the bastardisation of the smiths song.

I don't like how he doesn't care about his own pressies - totally unrealistic.

Cute kid though.

usualsuspect · 12/11/2011 22:20

awful .twee, shite

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2011 22:21

Right. What do you soppy lot think is in the box then? I am still thinking severed head/sister obviously. Grin

StealthPenguin · 12/11/2011 22:23

I reckon it's a new toaster :)

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2011 22:25

Mmmm. If DS2 (9) got us a toaster for Christmas I would be a bit Hmm.

StealthPenguin · 12/11/2011 22:25

Hmm, ok then. A dildo that he thinks is a tabletop hatstand?

katieconundrum · 12/11/2011 22:26

Awful. When they saw it for the first time, after the opening few seconds my DC (13, 13, 16) said, 'Oh no, this is going to be one of those really sad child abuse adverts'.
Doesn't work for me.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2011 22:28

Goodness Stealth do they sell such things at John Lewis? Grin

StealthPenguin · 12/11/2011 22:30

Well they generally sell overpriced and useless tat masquerading as useful convenience. So yes :o

TheBolter · 12/11/2011 23:00

Stealth - RE the 8am wake up - I too thought that! Faaaaar too idealised - especially as he seemed to shoot off to bed earlier than usual!

eaglewings · 12/11/2011 23:41

8am clock scene has gone!
Perhaps they have spies on here :)

ObviouslyOblivious · 12/11/2011 23:59

Home alone is in there isn't it? When he throws the covers back when he wakes up.

ObviouslyOblivious · 13/11/2011 00:02

Ignore me, I've watched it again and disagree with myself.

nannynick · 13/11/2011 00:08

The advent calendar is already out of stock. Though the Gruffalo Dressing Up Outfit is still available.

I think it's a nice advert.

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 13/11/2011 01:21

The film reference I got first was The Polar Express! The kid is the image of the boy, as is his bedroom.

Yes I blubbed, not for the ad itself, but that feeling of time around Christmas....just dragging until I felt like I was going to burst with anticipation.

My bruv and I used to save two months pocket money for our parents presents and buy with GP's. We used to get very excited about giving them gifts, so yes a few cynical hardnuts on here. My DS gets very excited about buying his dad a present, keeping his lips sealed is incredibly difficult. i don't think all kids are selfish about Christmas, they love the atmosphere and family timevas well as the gifts.
