Posted on the X Factor thread, but it is so lovely, it deserves a thread of it's own.

And in case you are wondering who the singer is, and how Morrissey could have agreed to such a thing-

The coca-cola holidays are coming makes me cry Blush

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2011 15:34

The Coca Cola ad is a proper Christmassy ad. Father Christmas and everything.

Raahh · 12/11/2011 15:46

Actually-I am now wondering why the little boy's sister didn't wake the parents up sooner...Grin

Though as I said up -thread, children that need waking up on Christmas morning do exist- I have two.Grin

(I love how this innocent little ad, has us all convinced it is all some massive homage horror flicks!)Grin

Raahh I think you may be onto something there. Could be the sister in there. Perhaps we should email John Lewis and ask whats in the box.

Besom · 12/11/2011 16:24

I don't think it is innocent. There are too many references for it to be a coincidence. Not that I would have noticed until I read it on here. I think they've deliberately made it so it can be viewed on different levels to get people talking. And it seems to have worked!

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2011 16:25

Perhaps there's a second advert where what's in the box is revealed. Genius.

cupofteaplease · 12/11/2011 16:32

I liked the ending, it did surprise me. The overall tone of the advert wasn't very festive though, there weren't any smiles in that family.

But it's a million miles better than that God awful Littlewoods advert.

Nettee · 12/11/2011 16:32

It made me cry and is a lovely concept.

I looked back over the last few years on YouTube though and in comparison I would say (in my best Alan Sugar voice), where is the product this year? Too many series of the Apprentice for me.

Not materialistic and a lovely ending although at the beginning i did think it was all a bit depressing.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2011 16:34

The product is in the box (we think). Strange marketing idea to hide product. Confused

Nettee · 12/11/2011 16:35

On the other hand I do like the concept of the littlewoods advert, if only they hadn't put all the expensive presents in it and mentioned credit - not much advert left then though i do admit. But I really don't think it ruins the Santa thing at all - unless you are one of those rare few who say that every single present cows from Santa - which I think is an odd thing to do anyway.

dementedma · 12/11/2011 16:43

just seen the second Littlewoods website for their website "very" (weird name) and DS aged 9 commented " I don't like that. It's going to ruin Santa for lots of little kids"

On the waiting for a reasonable hour to wake mum and dad, the DCs are simply not allowed to start opening presents and waking us up at an ungodly hour. never have been. They can do their stockings whenever they wake up, but don't come in to us until after 7.30. DD1 is now 21, DD2 18 and DD3 is 9 and they're all ok with it.

Raahh · 12/11/2011 17:09

The paper used to wrap the presents, is paper they sellGrin In fact, the products are all the way through- the wooden advent calendar at the beginning, the gruffalo costume, the robot duvet cover, and the baubles on the tree (all my baubles are from JL, one of the few things I could afford to buy when I worked there!) Even the little boys pjs. It's very subtle, and trust me, customers will ring up and ask where they can get the boy's dressing gown from, or the wall paper in the parents' room. Grin

In fact, they are very careful to make sure of stuff like that, after one advert they did a couple of years back. I think it was a spring advert, and we kept getting calls asking where they could buy the dress one of the actresses was wearing. It had been made specially for the ad. People complained Hmm.

Oh it's not the first time an MN thread has been quoted in the Mail, not by a long shot...

TheFoosa · 12/11/2011 18:09

ok I blubbed and I'm a Smith's fan

I'm glad it's a cover though

redlac · 12/11/2011 18:22

Fame at last

orienteerer · 12/11/2011 19:08

It's good, but not as good as their advert which was really poignant for me (DH was, and is, away for work, travelling by Chinook.....but not in uniform, just like the chap in the advert).

ssd · 12/11/2011 19:38

I love morrisey, but thats advert's crap

bad bad cover version and dull story

garlicBread · 12/11/2011 20:10

Aw, it's adorable! Schmaltzy, but that's Christmas Grin

Jins · 12/11/2011 20:14

The ad doesn't work for me at all. Over sentimental and a good song ruined.

Roll on new year

carocaro · 12/11/2011 20:53

Nah it's depressing, miserbale kid for 25 days, then some corny ending? No thanks. Plus the massive pile at the end of his bed is too big.

they've missed it by a mile this year.
