Posted on the X Factor thread, but it is so lovely, it deserves a thread of it's own.

And in case you are wondering who the singer is, and how Morrissey could have agreed to such a thing-

article here

Depending on what's in the box though Armi Grin

Armi · 11/11/2011 22:18

I hate it! Its depressing and feels like its going to be some sort of nspcc advert or something - can't see anything 'nice' about it - there a huge undercurrent of tension and melancholy.

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2011 23:02

It did have an air of the NSPCC ad mymuch it felt bleak and dull to me.

happywheezer · 11/11/2011 23:05

Oh I love it!

watfordmummy · 11/11/2011 23:09

tear in my eye here, Smile

MelinaM · 12/11/2011 00:19

Oh, that is such a wonderful advert!

poorbuthappy · 12/11/2011 00:25

That is lovely.
Now if I could just work out how to post this on Facebook I would be happy.

Ahhhhhhhh I was expecting something hideous like the Littlewoods advert

That made me go a bit teary :) so sweet

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 12/11/2011 03:50

Got hayfever here.

And a cold.

And dust in my eyes.

And I'm a great big softy. Is luffly. Makes me feel very homesick. Sad

MrsFruitcake · 12/11/2011 06:34

Made me cry when I found it myself last night, and again just now after watching it from the link on this thread. I've just had my visit from Aunt Flo so I can't be pre-menstrual. Maybe I'm just getting old and emotional.

That boy is so cute - he reminds me of the little boy who played Liam Neeson's stepson in Love Actually.

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 12/11/2011 06:39

Feeling much better now that I've shown it to my DH.

I am pleased to report that he welled up his eyes were moist.

Ergo, I'm not just a great big softy, I'm married to a great big softy. Grin

oliviasmama · 12/11/2011 07:33

clever JLP!

and it worked on me too, I love it!

smartyparts · 12/11/2011 10:59

AAAAAH! Love it and am all teary!

Shame on you M&S..

Pinot · 12/11/2011 11:04

I haven't seen that before.

Beautiful!

hackmum · 12/11/2011 11:42

I'm a complete moron because I didn't get any of the film references.

The other reason I'm a complete moron is that I absolutely despise all advertising, and pride myself on the fact that adverts never work on me. Yet the last John Lewis ad ("You're always a woman") and this one left me with a lump in my throat. Am I really such a sentimental old fool? Yes, obviously.

DressingGownQueen · 12/11/2011 12:02

I am really starting to worry that I am devoid of all emotion.

I just found it a bit depressing...

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 12/11/2011 12:08

Same...i'm another obviously cold hearted bitch, as i thought it was rather sad and depressing Confused

southeastastra · 12/11/2011 12:09

it is depressing and i'm not thick armi Grin

oliviasmama · 12/11/2011 12:16

i love this thread....it's a hoot especially Smartypants "shame on you M&S" !! Grin

meglet · 12/11/2011 12:17

I didn't cry. I was corrupted by Charlie Brookers 'head in a box' comments on Twitter yesterday.

hackmum · 12/11/2011 12:31

@NanaNina: "Very watchable but that is not the way little boys of that age behave. Well if they, do I've never met one - has anyone else??"

That's why it's so good - you think he's going to be a little brat and the payoff is that he unwraps his brand new bike or something on Christmas Day. And then he turns out to be everybody's fantasy son - a little angel who thinks more of his mum and dad than he does of himself. No wonder so many of the mums here are sobbing at it.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2011 13:10

I still think it really depends on what's in the box. How did the angelic child pay for the goods in John Lewis? Did he steal his parents' credit card? I what's in the box even from John Lewis? Confused

I'm with dressinggown.

limitedperiodonly · 12/11/2011 15:13

I never thought of that sparklingbrook. Where does he find the wherewithal to buy a severed head from John Lewis?

I haven't seen the M&S christmas ad yet either: 'This is not any severed head, it's...'
