Posted on the X Factor thread, but it is so lovely, it deserves a thread of it's own.

And in case you are wondering who the singer is, and how Morrissey could have agreed to such a thing-

article here

Only thing that struck me was the time on his clock. As if!

Baconsarnie · 11/11/2011 19:52

I cried, and so did my usually hard as nails DP when I showed it to him. We are such suckers.
The Smiths original is much better though, wish they'd used that instead.

trice · 11/11/2011 20:09

That kid has got loads of toys and a perfect family and home. If he was moping around like that in my house in the run up to Christmas I would be getting some professional help for the poor sausage.

fifitot · 11/11/2011 20:14

FFS. That is one of my favourite songs - bastardised by some twee girl ruining it.

Morrisey and Johnny Marr - how could you???????????????????????!

Plus shouldn't give pets for Xmas!

Pan · 11/11/2011 20:20

In which fantasy world exactly do JL customers live??

witherhills · 11/11/2011 20:31

redlac, I didn't mean to cast aspersions on whether he wrote it, sorry.
Don't know the song, and didn't have time to check!
I'm guessing you're a Smiths fan!!

MrsBaggins · 11/11/2011 20:33

Boring - I usually love the JL ad but this one is ZZZZZ!

SausageSmuggler · 11/11/2011 20:33

I was more astounded at the amount of presents the kid got in his stocking, i'd love to see what was under the tree.

NanaNina · 11/11/2011 20:35

Very watchable but that is not the way little boys of that age behave. Well if they, do I've never met one - has anyone else?? Agree Pan this is fantasy world.

DilysPrice · 11/11/2011 20:37

It was a lot of presents but I guess the point is to emphasise that he doesn't care about any of that because he is so excited about his present for mum and dad . I think this cold that everyone's got may be slightly contagious.

DilysPrice · 11/11/2011 20:40

Oh, and DS (7) made his present for DH weeks ago, and he is very very excited about giving it to him at Christmas, so you are all cynical so-and-sos. Admittedly the chances of him ignoring a bloody great heap of parcels with his name on in order to give DH the presents is approximately nil, but you've got to allow some dramatic license.

dementedma · 11/11/2011 20:49

so - the Littlewoods ad is shite and the John Lewis one lovely. well there's a surprise! Grin

snuffaluffagus · 11/11/2011 20:52

redlac, it's the swing bit

2wwmadness · 11/11/2011 20:57

Sobbing like a loon. But I'm pregnant with my pfb. And I live away from my family so hate the reality of Christmas as I miss them and wish it wasn't to two of us. So anything Christmassy makes me sob, coz next year we will have our own family (blows nose in tissue and wails)

EustaciaVye · 11/11/2011 20:57

I should point at that last year, DD (6) went to the toilet and walk past her huge filled stocking. She saw it then went back to bed. She stayed in bed for another 30 mins until her sister (they share a room) woke up so they could open their presents together.

Stop being so cycnical everyone. I like the advert :)

ahhyesiseeyouvepooedonyourfoot · 11/11/2011 20:58

This one always makes me blub

eaglewings · 11/11/2011 20:59

Remember one year we had to wake the kids up as I was going out to work at 8 and wanted o see them open their presents.
It's believable and brings tears tommy eyes. . . . .

FreddoBaggyMac · 11/11/2011 21:02

sob sob sob sob I love it.

FreddoBaggyMac · 11/11/2011 21:11

Watched it again and I'm seriously properly crying. I'm not even pregnant. Going to watch it again now!!

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2011 21:18

No crying here -sorry. It's an ad to make us go and buy stuff from JL. Confused

FreddoBaggyMac · 11/11/2011 21:23

Doesn't make me want to buy stuff (apart from maybe the gruffalo costume!)

moggiek · 11/11/2011 21:27

Yes, I know its an ad, but its soooooooooooooo lovely!!

AmyLouise222 · 11/11/2011 21:44

As cute and sentimental as it is, I MUCH preferred last year's one as I was introduced to an amazing Ellie Goulding song :)

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2011 21:46

Ooh you soppy lot. I hope you aren't going to blub every time it comes on, you will be washed away. Grin

Armi · 11/11/2011 22:10

Those of you who are moaning 'As if...!' about it being 8.30 are missing the point. The whole thing is about the little boy doing something nice for his parents and part of it is not waking them up at 5 a.m.

thickies :)
