Posted on the X Factor thread, but it is so lovely, it deserves a thread of it's own.

And in case you are wondering who the singer is, and how Morrissey could have agreed to such a thing-

article here

sweet. but like all advertising it's selling a myth. no child lies in til 8am on xmas day..in fact it's not happened anyday in this house

randommoment · 11/11/2011 17:25

Well I loved it. Although I will probably loathe it by mid-December.

DressingGownQueen · 11/11/2011 17:26

Didn't do anything for me at all.

I like the way his clock reads 8am when he wakes up. As if!

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2011 17:28

The last two Christmas mornings we have had to wake our 2 boys (9 and 12) because DH and I couldn't wait any longer. Blush

Raahh · 11/11/2011 17:29

Actually, we had to wake ds and dd1 up last year!

I've a feeling that won't happen this year

Ah, that's where you'd be wrong DressingGownQueen.

I used to wait until it got light enough in my bedroom to see my presents without turning on the light.

Very big on delayed gratification, me.

Very grateful parents

Northernlurker · 11/11/2011 17:32

I think it's lovely! So Harry Potter is also in there - what else? The vibrating drink is Jurassic Park I think.

lambethlil · 11/11/2011 17:43

Sob. Its lovely.

If you send it in a link it adds a tag from youtube,

"John Lewis Christmas Advert 2011 "For gifts you can't wait to give" There is something even more wonderful than receiving the perfect gift, and that is knowing you have found the perfect gift for?

101North · 11/11/2011 17:50

oh yes, the true spirit of christmas is the annual john lewis advert.

There's a great comment under the vid

"Is this a Taliban recruitment video?" Grin

101North · 11/11/2011 17:51

it didn't say that obvs.

I don't even know how to pronounce that (copy and paste shame) Blush

Raahh · 11/11/2011 17:54

Dh spotted that comment on youtube too!

redlac · 11/11/2011 17:59

The comments on YouTube are fantastic

"M & S got the X Factor, John Lewis got the Smiths, says it all really"

limitedperiodonly · 11/11/2011 18:00

There is something even more wonderful than receiving the perfect gift, and that is knowing you have found the perfect gift for?

Now I know it's bollocks. There's nothing on earth that's better than receiving the perfect gift and very little that's worse than doing battle with other Christmas shoppers in sweltering shops to get something for someone else.

snuffaluffagus · 11/11/2011 18:00

there's the sixth sense in there too (where he leaps into bed and pulls the covers up).. the most obvious is the Great Escape one.. and the Omen one.. I hadn't really spotted the Jurassic Park one but it's there!

I enjoyed it!

Abcinthia · 11/11/2011 18:02

I thought it was alright but the music ruined it. I definitely don't want to hear that a billion times on the run up to Christmas.

Raahh · 11/11/2011 18:03

I bet M and S are wishing they had stuck with Twiggy and Dannii Minogue!Grin

OP posts:
redlac · 11/11/2011 18:04

Snuffa what's the omen reference? I don't know the omen as well as I know the other references

wintera · 11/11/2011 18:35

Charlie Brooker is having a field day tweeting about this ad on Twitter. He reckons the box has a dog's head in it!

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2011 18:39

Perhaps it's a horse's head is in the box as a reference to The Godfather? Grin

Napdamnyou · 11/11/2011 18:44

Must have hay fever here

Tarlia · 11/11/2011 18:54

Bless his little cotton socks Grin

wobblyweeble82 · 11/11/2011 18:59

Oooh, that got me. Wet-eyed wuss now. That's lovely, that is. Good ol' John Lewis.

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 11/11/2011 19:01

Am i missing something? I just watched it from the link above, i see no dogs head in a boz Shock i saw nowt but a wrapped box in a dark closet? Am i clicking the wrong darn link or something?! WTF?

cocoachannel · 11/11/2011 19:06

I went to school with the singer, Amelia. I don't remember her singing back then, but admittedly I am a few years older much, much younger than her.

AChickenCalledKorma · 11/11/2011 19:11

(Pedant alert) the boy wakes up at 8:30am, on Christmas Day, and the sun is streaming in at the window? Is that possible?

But actually, it made me well up. And think of my lovely daughters who got very, very excited last week about giving me the birthday presents they had chosen for me all on their own. Two sugar mice, a small notebook and some heart-shaped jelly beans. Waaaaaah! (Hormonal soppy mother)
